Game seems fine, though the powerups are definitely less interesting than Returnal. Not losing currency and using it to upgrade after you die is definitely going to make the game a lot easier.
The shield mechanic to charge up your ultimate versus just waiting 120seconds is also intriguing.
The guns seem weak af so far too but im sure that will change, but it could also be that the ultimate is supposed to be used a lot more since you can charge it up by blocking blue blobbies. Hard to say at this point since im an hour and a half in.
I really liked Returnal (bought it for sci-fi setting, had no idea the gameplay would be that much fun)
Overall Saros is not that much easier. It is a lot more polished, higher production values, I like the story better as well. Setting looks completely awesome. Combat is also better imho. BUT building your character is just not there - very few decisions to be made.
Upgrading is necessary, if you don't want to start each run from the very beginning (you can select biome).
So far i think Returnal has more satisfying combat. This is kind of like going to Doom Eternal from 2016. Yeah, there is more depth to the combat but that doesn't necessarily make it more fun to play.
I just beat the 6th boss. I think the game is very much designed to be played from the beginning all the time (like Returnal). Otherwise if you spawn in later biomes you can actually often die in rooms prior to the boss. I had that happen in biome 4 (marsh) a lot. Just got overwhelmed with enemies in tighter paces and lacking the DPS to clear fast enough.
Also (contrary to what I claimed in my first post about this game), if you start from the beginning, you CAN actually have a build. But it takes a lot of time to get up and running. Hence why teleporting to the beginning of the biome you are at will not have enough drops in order to actually get enough artifacts.
Lol remember when you couldnt even quit the game. Not saros, but returnal. Had to finish it in one sitting or you'd boot up back to the beginning. So even this demands a bit much of people. Playing through the game umpteen times is not exactly my idea of fun.
Never finished Returnal but I rolled credits on Saros last night.
I think I’ll keep playing for a bit now that I can finally get past the yellow barriers, plus there’s some end game content it seems, which presumably explain what happened to Kayl.
I’d like to max out the armour matrix, if that’s possible but that means grinding Halcyon.
Despite the story falling off a cliff, it was a fun game, I have to say.
I’d bet there’ll be some DLC of some sort and I do wonder if Housemarque will try this type of game again and have it be a trilogy of sorts or come up with something new.
I finished it last night.. it was fairly crap tbh. Fun enough gameplay wise but the atmosphere, story and characters were all very weak. Started off pretty cool, reminded me of Doom3 or Event Horizon but as the game went on it just got worse.
There were no memorable moments like Returnal's lead-up to the biome 4 boss (playing the organ). Scratch that, the
Spoiler:
cinematic where Arjun turns into The King was metal af
Most annoying thing to me was the lack of courage from the devs to just balance the game how they thought it should be balanced. So many difficulty options, accessibility settings, carcosan modifiers GTFO.
