Nobody answered before I don't think, do elven mages get extra spell unlocks at level 5 or was it just a bug?

No need to crack anything, it just needs a leaked .dap file. And no need to go online EVER ... I firewalled the launcher, the main exe and that service exe the first time I launched the game and they tried to connect.
I just used the dauploader.exe thingy to install the DLC and then the dap file. I wonder why some p2p ubernoob doesn't leak it (it contains keys tied to the email)
And yes, mages are powerful and having one as your main char is very good gameplay-wise ! But you absolutely need at least 2 warriors to keep the fucks occupied. Sometimes they swarm you ! |
It would be extremely interesting to get ahold of this profile.dap along with the /core/data/resmetrics.erf file of a DLC it is authorized to unlock (or one of the other files, but that one is small and its plaintext is highly structured). If analysing resmetrics.erf shows that the keys match the other copies available, then it is probably the DLC is single-keyed. Furthermore, possessing the key it may be possible to use the toolkit to decrypt the DLC and create an unencrypted version, avoiding all the problems of heavily-locked-down DLC.

I can safely sell these, right? I didn't see an option to gift them in their radial menu, but I don't know if you can when you're in the camp (haven't reached it yet).

Me and Wicked666 compared the bytes (keys?) after the activated DLC's name inside the profile.dap and they were very different. That's why I suppose it's unique, tied to the email or something. The email is there in a third occurence after the acttivated DLC's ... changing the email, gives me an authorization error on loading the game.
Feel free to buy the DLCs and use the toolkit to decrypt them, I can give you files/info, except the actual profile file.

That the profile.dap is individually keyed is not surprising. What I'm wondering is how the DLCs themselves are keyed. I'm leaning towards there being one master key for each DLC, and everyone has the same key; this key is stored in profile.dap not in plaintext but using some method (RSA or whatever) that incorporates other information (like the email).
For reference: looking at /core/data/resmetrics.erf for Stone Prisoner (dao_prc_cp_2), at offset 28H there is a suspicious string of 16 bytes not found in unencrypted ERF files, and common to all the Stone Prisoner ERFs; in my copy it is 47 87 A7 28 E0 88 02 89 C7 11 5B 4B 3D 91 00 FC. If yours matches that, as well as having first eight bytes of the encrypted stream for resmetrics.erf (offset 84H) of A9 7D 32 2D 81 4D 69 32, then all or most copies of Stone Prisoner share a master key, one that can presumably be derived from any authorized copy and used to unlock all copies.

We'we already checked whether actual erf files get decrypted on hdd, that doesn't happen. Decryption happens at runtime every time you run game.
RSA? Omg that's very unlikely. Just XORing e-mail with encryption key would make same decryption key seem unique. "Blowfishing" it using e-mail as key or some IV = same thing.
Btw using toolset you can create your own encrypted erfs with your own known keys.
That should allow you to check some of your theories.

That's md5 hash of "password" - toolset's/game's quick way of checking if password entered for decryption is correct.

I tried, works OK. However I put back the original EXE before patching.

Should be all of the VC++ redists, 32-bits are needed on all OS's but the 64-bit ones are only for 64-bit apps though if you have such a OS it doesn't hurt to install them.
In all honesty I don't know if 2005, 2005 SP1 is needed to be installed like that but SP1 is smaller although I have never really compared all the DLL files.
(2005 and 2008 have different files however.)
Still auto installation at the end of most game setups tend to install VC++ 2005 redist so I always rip that stuff out of the disc image to avoid problems.
(The files in Windows/WxS/ are probably OK but the program files VC++ folder DLL file gets replaced and so to seems some Windows/System32 or Windows/SysWoW64 dll files, bit annoying to keep it up but it's worth it, I do the same with the DX redist albeit as it uses _XX .DLL files instead of D3D10.dll replacement and so on stuff usually isn't overriden.)

You can swap the party in certain areas in the mage tower, there's a bit of decent gear to be had if you explore but it's mostly minor things in the locked containers.
(But if you do have the ability to do so then by all means unlock everything.)
EDIT: Seems that users post disappeared, ah well.
EDIT: No it didn't.
EDIT:
Spoiler: |
Amongst the better gear is stuff from a Revenent which is related to a misc side quest and some things from the various demons depending on your choices in the tower and who you decide to trust, some other side quests like the summoning room or statue room puzzle also gives decent gear but as with the Revenant it'll be a tough fight.
Oh and this is your one chance to get the grimoire, if you don't know about it then I guess you won't need it.
Spoiler:
It's related to Morrigans personal quest once she's "warm" or "friendly" to you instead of "neutral" and might boost it up to "love" after you've done a few other things although do note Morrigan won't sleep with you if her status is at love and you can only sleep with companions once.

I have the same thing if I go online with my profile.
as long as I'm off-line they work. Very annoying but possibly caused by playing the warez version first. (tho I didn't register/login with that)

I'm playing this on easy cos I like to play combat in real-time (I'm not adept at this whole tactical-RPG combat thing). The normal mode is way too hard for me.
The game is way too easy now though. I've arrived at redcliffe, does the game eventually get harder on easy mode? Feels like i'm just walkin thru without a challenge right now.
