Actually, the flickering on ATi cards is a driver related problem in the newest Catalyst 9.3 set. Going back to 9.2 or 9.1 fixes the flickering and missing shadows on 48xx cards. I've been through the same hassle and it's working fine now on my 4870.

Wouldn't disabling Catalyst AI work as well?

You know, I'm not really sure. I'll give it a shot (certainly takes less time)
Oh and I tried that map mod. It's ok, but doesn't really help much (just shows a couple extra locations, like where to find the Fire Chalices) I hope someone brings out a PROPER map/quest-location mod. Trying to find certain objectives is annoying as all hell sometimes.
"The Orcs are at the farm"
"Uhhh, which farm? Where? What direction?"
"The Orcs are at the farm"
*stab and loot*
"Deal with the damned Orcs yourself"

Hahaha! I guess the map WOULD help then, it has he locations of the Paladins and the locations of the Fire Chalices.
Ok so I disabled CatAI and the flickering is still there when enabling the bottom 4 options (light rims, anti-aliasing, depth of field and overglow) - enabling any ONE of those causes lights to flicker on characters and objects. Only way to remove it is to disable all four. Annoying.

EDIT: Some basic tasks are also very difficult such as finding the teleport stones for various cities (One of the NPC's in a city carry it for example whereas another stone is outside the city and so on) and finding some ingredients or what to call it for crafting can take a long time. (Pure magic ore blank - of which there are two or three in the entire game - and katanas mainly, there was only one katana in the game previously and you needed two for that receipe but 1.70 fixed that.)

Aye, that's exactly my point! Sheesh, people whined like little bitches over the "hand-holding" compass locations in Oblivion .... but this is far, far worse. At least you could turn OFF that bloody compass, you can't turn ON some help in G3.

Sorry to hear about the flickering, must be annoying to deal with it.
(Perhaps using that .DLL from Catalyst 9.2 solves it then?, posted it in the NecroVision thread so just put it in the same directory as the EXE file.)

I'll certainly give it a try, mate! It WAS annoying at first, but once I figured out which options (or in this case; option GROUP) caused it, I could stop the flicking at the loss of some minor detail and jaggy smoothing.
=Edit=
Nah, no go. Still flickers. Isn't that .dll a DX10 one anyhow?
No matter, I'll either drop back down to 9.2 or just deal with it for now.

Nah, my point is that both games offer extremes. The worlds of G3 and Oblivion are ridiculously large .. and with nothing waypointed, nothing actually with detailed info on locations, it just becomes a chore and annoying.

I know that G3 offers little verbal help and the level design is not very helpful either (heck, sometimes quests can end up in different places on different playthroughs).
I just find it kind of funny that first people complain about a thing and when it gets fixed, they don't like that either. I shouldn't have used the word "whine"...it gave the post more negative overtone than I intended.

Aren't those around that "mini stonehenge" with the hunter in it?
Need a bow or you'll be running forever, I'd recommend a crossbow but the useful ones (non-worn store bought war-crossbow for example.) are pretty expensive and requires high stats and special skills to use.
(Some higher-end normal bows work as well, especially with damage enhancing arrows like fire or the new sharp arrows.)
Also don't run into the Orc's further down near the barrier, you can kill them but that'll trigger a quest accidentally and that one is meant for the end part of the game.
(Depending on your choices and decisions of course.)

Oh don't worry, mate, I knew about that already (this is probably my fifth run-through of the game. Each time I get new hardware, or a new version of the CP comes out, I return to the game.. hehe) It's just those Shy Deer are insanely annoying, I killed four of the five ... but the fifth ran off somewhere down towards the barrier; and now he's just vanished. I've butched a few Orcs running around trying to find the deer, but he's long gone
Now I'm trekking back up to Ardea in the, probably vain, hopes that it scampered off in that direction.
Gah. I might just "spawn sh" and try and have this quest flagged, because it's pissing me off and I hate having unfinished quests in my log.

Unsure about the ID but "goto" could work as welll if you know it.
(Though the deer are supposed to return after a while if you leave them alone.)
(Unless killed by scavengers, wolves or spooked by the orcs.)

Yeah, I reckon this lone deer was killed ... the 170 CP seems to change spawning quite a bit, now there's a LOT more wildlife in the game - especially roving packs (literally; there's usually 5-8 at a time) of wolves, not to mention a pretty large abundance of scavengers.
The thing is, if it was killed elsewhere - I have to track down its body to get the meat that Chris wants. I read online that it's not really "shy deer" meat that he wants (there's no id solely for "shy deer meat" - but just meat harvested from game "in general". Apparently just giving him five "raw meat" should be enough, so I'm gonna do that.
=Edit=
Ding!
My hunch was right, they had scarpered up to Ardea! Tracked them down and gutted them both (there were TWO!)
=Edit 2=
Oh for the love of God. Even with the myriad patches, this game is still buggier than a shit-house rat. It's *supposed* to be raining pretty heavily right now, I can HEAR it, yet there's no rain onscreen at all.

Well, to be fair, this is one of the (now very rare) bugs they weren't able to iron out completely. It's even mentioned in their release notes. But other than that, there really shouldn't be any mean bugs left.
By the way, here's another user-made attempt on reducing this bug to a more comfortable level:
http://www.oc-burner.de/ftp/WoG/GothicIII%20CP1.70%20Better%20timmed%20Rainmod/Better%20timmed%20Rainmod.exe
Simply put the extracted file into your Gothic3/Data folder. He changed the fade-in and out times and lowered the general volume. Based on comments, it's supposed to work great.

lhzr wrote: | maybe you didn't clear the mines completely? the monsters aren't marked on the map, so it could be possible one's still hidden in a corner or some shit. | That might be the case. This game usually notifies the player if a "kill all" mission is completed, even though it wasn't accepted previously. For example we can easily finish off the orc patrols and the agressive boars around Reddock, before we even talk to a single person inside. We'll get the XP/skill bonuses, we only need the questgivers for the rewards.
It's also possible that one of the critters went ghost-mode and fell through a wall or something. They said it's less likely to happen but still can happen.
