At most they'll just take this and create a installer out of it with a modified EXE to bypass having to use a loader or fake Steam client (I use a loader myself to avoid using Steam altogether.)

Similar to Saints Row 2 actually.
(Which also used that Simpack method to unpack the files but with a custom installer, easily noticed if you check the contents of the disc.)

Actually you don't as following the instructions will fool the game into thinking it's running trough Steam (Via a proper account.) so it's more like a emulation but it works pretty well.

Select the 285 or 280 card and hit the + marker next to the new 182.05 drivers. Smile
(Will help for this game, and in general as well I believe.)

As usualy us ATI users need to wait until 9.2 and probably further until we'll get proper support for this game.
(Not saying it works bad or anything but drivers improve performance further and can eliminate visual bugs and anomalies.)

EDIT: And new PhysX drivers for titles that support that.
http://www.nvidia.com/object/physx_9.09.0203_whql.html

EDIT: To post below, card selection doesn't matter as such as it's what the drivers support and according to the notes they support the 7, 8, 9 and 200 series of cards. Smile

1 - I extracted all files to c:\fear2 with simpack
Code:
simpack x ProjectOrigin_disk1.SIM -g16451 -kF183E845B8A0A340CBD6F7922427D7C1 c:\FEAR2
simpack x ProjectOrigin_disk1.SIM -g16452 -k4E185BE9D186A792EC1E1A03FED362C2 c:\FEAR2
simpack x ProjectOrigin_disk1.SIM -g16454 -kE34CE97D2DC32B73AF5536FD3F07EDF0 c:\FEAR2

simpack x ProjectOrigin_disk2.SIM -g16451 -kF183E845B8A0A340CBD6F7922427D7C1 c:\FEAR2
simpack x ProjectOrigin_disk2.SIM -g16452 -k4E185BE9D186A792EC1E1A03FED362C2 c:\FEAR2
simpack x ProjectOrigin_disk2.SIM -g16454 -kE34CE97D2DC32B73AF5536FD3F07EDF0 c:\FEAR2

2 - Copied revloader files into c:\fear2
3 - Renamed and copied -cracked- steamclient2.dll (since revloader already has a steamclient.dll) to c:\fear2

4 - Edit the rev.ini file

Code:
[Loader]

# Specify the name of the application to load.
# You can also specify the command line.
#
ProcName=fear2.exe

# Specify the location of the original steamclient.dll
# which comes with Steam client
# You can comment this line out if the game doesn't use it
#
SteamClientDll=c:\fear2\steamclient2.dll

5 - Created steam_appid.txt with the number "16450"

6 - Run "loader.exe"

Disk1/Disk2 shouldn't have to both be specified, if they're named correctly Disk Y will follow after Disk X Smile

Also, there is no need to download physx system software seperately. On 182.05 rel notes it says
# Automatically installs the new PhysX System Software version 9.09.0203.

Uhh... there is no Steam-rip, unless you make it yourself Rolling Eyes

The DVD images come with Steam-installed files, mate, they're just encrypted until release date. These guides (the one I linked to and the one on RIN.RU) just tell you how to rip the files and load them in a cracked Steam client.

They're not compressed, not to my knowledge anyway, so it'll be the same amount; 12-13GB.

Aye, that's the only reason I've not downloaded it yet (well, that and it'll take 4hrs to download... and I still have to pack for my flight tomorrow morning)

24GB total extraction (source and extracted files) then 12GB install. I don't have 36GB to spare, not even spread across four HDDs Sad

To those who are playing the game right now, is the common known 1-second freezing/stuttering present in the final version?
