It's not a JA game. They're not allowed to use any of the characters of storyline from JA. So no, the Ivan character will not be a part of this game. Perhaps they sneaked a character similar to him in, but I don't know, download isn't finished yet.

The second JAG rocked will try this today, here is a player review, grade 8:
"I think, we all know - in past Hired Guns was called Jagged Alliance 3D. But in the end of 2006, Strategy First has rejected rights to the title, so here is the new name.
Even with its new name, Hired Guns has same old-school, true Freelancer style, used in previous Jagged Alliance series. A few things about the story:
There is a place, called "Almaznij Bereg" (Russian, in English probably - "The Diamond Coast") in the heart of Africa. Its president was kicked off by own brother who has taken his place. You are the field-commander who must kill the dictator by using International Mercenaries Agency (remember A.I.M. from Jagged Alliance?) and restore rights of the true president. By the way, you can get one of five different endings.
The combat system is staying close to previous Jagged Alliance titles. When not in combat, your mercenaries is moving on location in real-time mode. But when the combat has started, gameplay will transform to turn-based mode. Your mercenaries has Action Points [AP] to make your turn. Count of AP is according to mercenary level and his current HP. When you clear a location out of enemies its becomes yours. But be on your guard! Dictator can send reinforcements to this location and take it back.
Graphic level is nice. The game uses a lot of DX9 effects and shaders. And thanks to that, the game looks good. Also, the game has good physics engine. You can blow up any tree or house by using grenades, explosive packs, etc. Physics make game very realistic. For example, try shot some enemy at the edge of gorge. First the body will start moving, and then its fall at bottom of the gorge.
Sadly, the game has a problems. The first one - very bad cinematics. I think, GFI should learn from Blizzard Ent. or BioWare how to make perfect cinematics prerendered on game engine. The second one - there is no weather effects, nights or even sky! Just a black space like in Warcraft 3, but wc at least has the nights. The last one - a little bugs. But if you play in official russian release, you can download 1.5 patch, it will remove lots of bugs.
Summary. If you are fan of Jagged Alliance, you must play Hired Guns. And its a very good way to spend time till Jagged Alliance 3 will be released."
So this isn't JAG3, the real JAG3 will be released later, whatever.

a merc game without Earl or Mike is not a merc game.
but if cinematics arecrap and no weather system, and all rest is similar to jagged alliance then IM HAPPY! you don't realize how ive waited for a successor of JA, with engine close to silent storm..
PS I will name my char as Earl. Don't use it or I'll slice your throat before you even know it!

Menu is exactly as JA I love it, map is 3d and kind of sucks, they should have left it 2d.

No wonder the IP holders refused this to carry the Jagged Alliance name, what a steaming pile of shit.
Stay clear children, and play Jagged Alliance 2 or Silent Storm (without Panzerkleins) instead.

You are so busy trying to be original that you forgot this is NOT a JA game. JA3 is yet to come and it looks good (from what I've seen and played).

- AI is a bit smarter than original JA. If you climb onto a roof, they follow you there or throw grenades. If you take cover for too long, grenades again.
- Camera is not very nice. I'll try OnBoard's suggestion.
- Movement is not nice either. I miss having a grid.
- Some crashes. Save often.
- Veteran difficulty seems too hard. I could play JA2 on max difficulty, but not this one. You just land on a mission surrounded by 10 enemies with nowhere to take cover. Just like UFO:AL.
- You can't flee from a battle. But it was possible on the demo.

From what I have heard, the Easy difficulty mode is the most optimized one and the one you should pick if you want "proper" gameplay.

OnBoard wrote: | 17 enemy soldiers dead with 5 of my mercs. Only one left still shooting, 4 dying on the ground and one dead. That train station is impossible Saved like every other turn and played it for 2 hours.
Half the time they were passing out already, with just laying on the ground and shooting for so long. I miss Jagged Alliance water, one sip and good to go again. I can hire one more, but would it be enough, those enemy holy grenades are nasty.
Oh and that was my 3rd try on the train station. First time came with 4 dudes on the side (seemed easier). Next time on top with 5 and got killed on the spot almost. Now I planned every entrance point for the mercs with good line of sight to where I know the enemy will come and still went poop. There are just so many of them, if only I had a grenade launcher, or RPG or could call air support |
Spoiler: | OnBoard, on the left at the start from the transtation you have a small building with a roof where you can get on via a small box, a tower, and a building to the right of that.
Start the map, run one of your mercs up the tower, and two people on each corner of the building to the right of it. This makes it almost impossible for them to nade you before you kill 5-10 of them. If they still keep coming run to the left building and get a 'sniper' on the roof and your other 4 behind that building covering the angles.
Once you take a few more of, take your best assault merc's and sweep from the left, it's not that hard from there. |
