What proggy has the best algorithm for compressing jpegs ? Preferrably with some kind of preview, so I can choose the best quality/compression ratio.

Any suggestions ? Is StuffIt worth it ? I hate these all-in-one proggies, I prefer specialized tools.

Although I'm using Web Image Guru now ...

I know Leo , Spykez etc must be masters of jpeg/gif compression Very Happy

P.S.: I don't want to have to tinker with the image myself, I'm a noob with gfx.

Nice, actually I can't discern any quality differences with bare eyes in my testing images, but I prefer it to Web Image Guru, so I'm uninstalling that and keeping this, lol.

Well, Photoshop is a beast. Overkill to use it once a week to compress a bmp->jpeg Laughing

Indeed.

BTW, PSCS3 is faster, so you might want to use that.

well, photoshop's 'save for web' thingie has lots of optimization options for jpegs, gifs and pngs
i really doubt there's any single app that does it better with a visual comparison and all
for pure code quality you might want to look into open source apps like imagemagik and such, but expect lots of experimentation due to lack of fancy easy to use UI like photoshop
but keep in mind that there really isn't that much wiggle-room with jpeg compression.. the algorithm is what it is
