Xtrem3X wrote: | The way x264 works will make any movie @ 4000Kps much better quality then any DVD. The 720p septic releases may not be the best HDRips but they are way better then any DVDRip you'll get. I find it quite handy being able to put an HDRip onto DVD to save space on my pc. Dont get me wrong, it's not anywhere near the quality of an 8000Kbs rip but it's far better then the quality of a DVD you can buy in a store. |
Far better? I'd say not even hardly better at that bitrate
Commercial bluray movies usually run at 25-30 mbps (there are quite some exceptions, though), and while a rip at 8000 kbps can look great to most people, because they have been watching DVDs all their life, it is nowhere near the retail quality.
If the scene foregoes the moronic DVD5 and DVD9 limits and aim for bitrates above the 10k mark, then we are starting to talk quality.
External harddrives are a better and cheaper solution than burning DVDs in the long run. I hope the x264 scene one day realizes this, and starts going for quality over speed. For people who like to burn to DVDs, you can always re-encode the movie.

People tend to think that h264 is a miracle doer, it can do just about anything. It was the same when the MP4 ASP codecs (divx, later xvid,3vix) first came out.

x264 doesn't need 25 - 30 mbs
If you want retail copies download the 30Gb+ releases
After being re-encoded to x264 they only suffer minor quality loss, most people probably cant tell the difference at all.

Depends on your TV I guess. I certainly can tell the difference between different bitrates. I wouldn't want to download a 30GB release, but a minimal bitrate of 10k should be a standard nowadays. Encoding faster probably has higher priority though.

The 1080p version of Ironman floating around is 8k, imo that's fine.
Any higher and you're looking at 15Gb+ per movie.
With a movie collection of over 500 XviDs slowly being replaced by HDrips 15Gb+ is too big.
If you only want a collection of 50 - 100 movies then ok, but if you want every good movie you've ever seen plus some sitty ones for your missus then you can't go only getting ones with a 10k minimum bitrate.

He throws a damn tank into a commanche chopper what more do you want? Comic Books arent necessarily about actions all the time there has to be dialogue to progress the story and I really felt The Hulk 2003 accomplish that. Still Nick Nolte's hulk dogs was just silly.

I'm reading good things about The Incredible Hulk 2008 1080p BluRay DTS x264-HD1080. Also scene, but has good quality.
There is no non-scene release yet.

yeah, the bitrate of the 1080p scene release is 1920x816 @ 8624 kbit compared to the pathetic 720p scene release that is 1280x544 @ 4066 kbit :/
I'll probably leech that for now until I have a 720p Esir copy to archive.

Tomatoes, potatoes. It had action and a more comic-esque feeling compared to its sequel. I wouldnt say the 2003 version accomplished anything extraordinary but it did what it promised.

I bet he's one of those that get the AXXO release and enjoy them like there's no alternative. He's probably tried a 720p release on his 17" monitor and didn't get what all the fuss is all about...
