The way x264 works will make any movie @ 4000Kps much better quality then any DVD. The 720p septic releases may not be the best HDRips but they are way better then any DVDRip you'll get. I find it quite handy being able to put an HDRip onto DVD to save space on my pc. Dont get me wrong, it's not anywhere near the quality of an 8000Kbs rip but it's far better then the quality of a DVD you can buy in a store.

Far better? I'd say not even hardly better at that bitrate Laughing

Commercial bluray movies usually run at 25-30 mbps (there are quite some exceptions, though), and while a rip at 8000 kbps can look great to most people, because they have been watching DVDs all their life, it is nowhere near the retail quality.

If the scene foregoes the moronic DVD5 and DVD9 limits and aim for bitrates above the 10k mark, then we are starting to talk quality.

External harddrives are a better and cheaper solution than burning DVDs in the long run. I hope the x264 scene one day realizes this, and starts going for quality over speed. For people who like to burn to DVDs, you can always re-encode the movie.

Try DVD vs 720p @ CRF 24 and you'll see that 720p easily goes above 4 Mbps whereas DVD can most likely be less than 2 Mbps; so the DVD would probably look better than restricting 720p to 4Mbps. Of course any comparison like that is highly dependent on the quality and complexity of the source.
Using too low bitrate is probably the main reason why people claim x264's output is blurry.

The point is that CD, DVD5, DVD9 or any other file size restrictions should be buried with Xvid; CRF is all you need to know when using x264 for high quality rips.

People tend to think that h264 is a miracle doer, it can do just about anything. It was the same when the MP4 ASP codecs (divx, later xvid,3vix) first came out.

x264 doesn't need 25 - 30 mbs
If you want retail copies download the 30Gb+ releases
After being re-encoded to x264 they only suffer minor quality loss, most people probably cant tell the difference at all.

Depends on your TV I guess. I certainly can tell the difference between different bitrates. I wouldn't want to download a 30GB release, but a minimal bitrate of 10k should be a standard nowadays. Encoding faster probably has higher priority though.

I actually could care less about the quality compared to DVD. What matters is the quality vs the original BluRay source. Not to mention all of the HDrips I end up downloading twice because I get the dvd5 first and then then dvd9 when I notice it.

oh, and DL verbs cost about $1 here compared with $0.50 for a dvd5 so you can use those as well to archive stuff to disc Wink

The 1080p version of Ironman floating around is 8k, imo that's fine.
Any higher and you're looking at 15Gb+ per movie.
With a movie collection of over 500 XviDs slowly being replaced by HDrips 15Gb+ is too big.
If you only want a collection of 50 - 100 movies then ok, but if you want every good movie you've ever seen plus some sitty ones for your missus then you can't go only getting ones with a 10k minimum bitrate.

Rolling Eyes

The so-called snorefest was alot more artistic, loved how Ang Lee actually made it like a Comic book was surprisingly well done. The new film is a new re-imagening of the character but still it excludes the origin of the character... Rubbish imo.

He throws a damn tank into a commanche chopper what more do you want? Comic Books arent necessarily about actions all the time there has to be dialogue to progress the story and I really felt The Hulk 2003 accomplish that. Still Nick Nolte's hulk dogs was just silly.

The actions sequences in the Ang Lee version were much better than the ones in this new movie. Canyon scene was awesome. Very Happy There was so much potential in this one with the abomination and they could have made it a real amazing fight but it didn't go anywhere.

figured I'd bump this thread to complain, at least Leo might join me Wink

So I downloaded the scene release (actually two, The.Incredible.Hulk.2008.PROPER.720p.BluRay.x264-METiS and The.Incredible.Hulk.2008.720p.BluRay.x264-AC3HD), and they look like complete shit. Like barely better than DVD.

Then, I see this review of the video quality on the BR disc ...

Quote:
Video Quality on this release is in full 1080p using the AVC MPEG-4 codec on a BD-50 (50 gigabyte Blu-ray Disc) and presented in the 2.35:1 aspect ratio. According to IMDb’s technical specifications listing this was shot on Panavision 35mm and has a 2K digital intermediate source. This makes for one hell of a Hi-Def transfer with extreme clarity and sense of 3-Dimensional (3D) depth at times. There’s only a very tiny hint of film grain present which is to honestly be expected considering this was shot on traditional 35mm film. The occasional film grain is not in the slightest bit bothersome and we see no signs of compression issues either. The color palette is at time’s very vibrant with some absolutely beautiful aerial shots throughout the film. The fleshtones are accurate in comparison to Liv Tyler in the recently reviewed film “The Strangers” — also released by Universal.

One of the most important things for a film involving a superhero like “The Hulk” is how well this CG animated character actually looks in full High Definition. You’ll first off notice that this new version of the hero does not suffer from an almost shiny plastic (fake) visual style but instead receives a more photo realistic approach to the character. Most important thing is that those ugly purple pants are gone and we get him back in ripped jeans like most of us remember and find more believable. The skintone of this new “Hulk” is a bit less flashy or bright and more dull and realistic to a sense. This really holds no major visual flaws in High Definition with that all being said in regards to the CG animation. “The Incredible Hulk” is definitely a Blu-ray title that features a video presentation that matches up to it’s flawless audio experience and earns a “5 Star Rating” overall for video quality.

the fucking joke of an HDrip scene can suck my dick.

thank you, that is all Smile

I'm reading good things about The Incredible Hulk 2008 1080p BluRay DTS x264-HD1080. Also scene, but has good quality.

There is no non-scene release yet.

I'll probably leech that for now until I have a 720p Esir copy to archive.

Tomatoes, potatoes. It had action and a more comic-esque feeling compared to its sequel. I wouldnt say the 2003 version accomplished anything extraordinary but it did what it promised.
