Hello,

I'm thinking to buy a second monitor because I've seen more and more ppl use two (or more)
And because I need more 'space', hopefully I will work faster.

But I've some 'how to's ' such as: ...

-If i maximise an window, it will maximise on one monitor or it will stretch on both?
-Will 'eat' more resources?
-Are two monitors good for something?

More to come ... ;D

There are good programs that manage multiple displays well, such as UltraMon

http://www.realtimesoft.com/ultramon/

I have a 40" LCD as my secondary display but it's basically the same idea Smile

Can do both, depending of your settings either from your drivers control panel or with some third party app (e.g displayfusion).

Don't think so, you just need an half-decent video card, i.e. if you use vista's themes transparency, etc.

Yeah it is needed if you need to multitask, need several apps/windows/crap opened at once... Needed to work but imo useless if you only play games or watch vids, there rather have a single but bigger screen.

- you can load of winamp (e.g.) to the second and the use the other.
- while you play games in fullscreen you can see the taskmanager or volume control. nice for me. What about GPU heat or something?
- i saw this topic while watching a video

2 monitors are great. But... i wouldnt recommend anyone to actually buy a new monitor if he doesnt use it for work or something.

thanks for those apps, maybe i can use them. Very Happy

I want it too. I just don't have the money to buy a proper monitor for it. Can you buy a VGA-DVI adaptor so you can throw an old monitor on your new GFX?

SAS Enterprise guide on one and Office suite/internet on the other for me Wink Basically programming on one side and writing up results of analysis on the other.

seriously, I would be even more productive at work than I already am if they allowed me two monitors Razz Some people just don't get the idea of multi-tasking that much though.

Well, if your boss is one of those that click on a button, then take half a minute to see if they clicked the right button (and another half to find where the cursor actually was).

It's more like an IT department with a stick up their ass. They are so inflexible and so out of date it is ridiculous. Picture a bunch of 40-50 year olds that haven't kept up with the times for about 5 years.

Case in point, I complained about the memory in the laptops we borrow from meetings (standard Lenovo thinkpads)... they said they couldn't upgrade because there was "proprietary" memory modules in the computer Laughing A simple check of device manager says 'no' ... gotta wonder if they are getting ripped off somehow.

Oh no need to explain about those to me. I've had such teachers and lecturers, and I hate them the most. Stuck with old tools (old like from 98 or even older) and unwilling to use the newer ones, because Rolling Eyes MS is out to get them, and because the old tools have less colors (Laughing)! Last year I had a lecturer that said he has DOS in his house because XP is a DOS shell anyway (Laughing). When asked about Vista, he asked if that was a Unix extension ahahah... After that I just dropped out of the course.

Have duel monitors at work, its a must for what i do. I also have duel monitors at home and while i do a little work at home, i mostly use them for everyday computer use. Web browsing, downloading, gaming etc. And to be honest, even with everyday tasks, i cannot be without 2 displays now. IT just makes everything so much slicker to do. Movie on one screen while i go through my weekly downloads on another screen etc.

I can only imagine what it would be like to work in Photoshop or Dreamviewer with dual monitors... Oh it would be heaven...
