Just reinstalled Windows on my friends old Dell. Everything works fine, aside from audio, which is fucked. I went to the dell website, got the drivers for his integrated sound card, and installed them. Its still borked, nothing works. So.... what now?

Maybe you have broken or missing audio codecs (unlikely since you reinstalled Windows).

Check in Device Manager if the sound card installed properly or if there are any conflicts.

And check if the speakers are pluged in correctly and if you have muted sound in sound panel (happened to me a lot of times Very Happy ).

Yep. Checked all that. Says unknown audio codec in device manager, but then again it says the same on my machine, where audio works fine.

*sigh*, ok I'll ask him if he wants to buy a sound card. And no, I'm not gonna get Creative, no matter what.

Still, does anyone have any idea concerning what might be the issue?
