Why does it matter if its revolutionary? I can see your basis for that arguement in regard to the scores it receives, but I myself dont give a rats ass about PC game review scores, especially magazine reviews, which are by far worse and more biased then any other medium.

I dont expect HL2 to revolutionize anything, I expect the best physics I've ever seen in a game, I want an atmospheric, polished, well directed/choreographed FPS. I expect it to have proper pacing, great in game cutscenes and scripts, challenging AI...the standard things you come to expect in a high production value FPS, if it delivers on those then it deserves all the praise it gets, but it doesnt need to revolutionize the genre.

Besides its a sequel, it has to follow certain guidelines laid down by the first game, you cant change it into a different type of game just to try and advance computer gaming as a whole, they are here to deliver a quality sequel to a great game. You cant say it doesnt add its fair share of new concepts and features over Half-Life 1, I think they have done plenty to justify it being a great step forward for the half-life series, beyond that what can you expect out of this?

Just to note, it uses Havok so many games have the exact same physics including games like Max Payne 2...

Guys, you need to chill out a bit. It's still only a game. We can't sit here and talk about it to much before it's even actually out. I think threads like these should be wiped out when they are started because you can't discuss the gameplay of a game when it isn't even released. In my own opinion, I got extremely spoiled with Far Cry. It beat Doom 3 and Half Life 2 out the door and when I first played that sucker up, the graphics blew me away. Outdoor vistas were incredible. Then I made it to the interior levels, and it spoiled me even more. It ripped off a lot of what Doom 3 had going, with regards to, the lighting quality (shooting at a light fixture and having it go out or having it sway back and forth). Need I also mention the steam effects, the blur effects, etc. Now, it still isn't the best FPS this year, why, because it had many issues. Issues that experienced companies like ID and VALVE just don't make. Doom 3, it was very nice, but the engine is very limited, and I actually stopped playing the game because I got bored. I wasn't dissapointed with it, but I got what I expected. I knew it would be like that. Half Life 2 will be the best FPS this year hands down, but again, I haven't played it yet. I CAN comment on Counterstrike Source. I've been having lots of fun with it, since I ordered it from Steam last week, but then again, I never really played CS all that much before, I was more of a HalfLife Deathmatcher. From what I've played so far, it looks really good, but there's some issues that I don't know if they will be present in HalfLife 2 or not. You can't shoot out the lights, some textures up close look butt ugly, but again, they only may be excluded from CS and not from HL2. As far as Valve goes, they really need some major PR work. I think Injurious is pissed with all that has happened with regards to delays and all that shit. Valve has to make money or they wont be here. I question some tactics they use to make that money but hey, if you like their products buy them, if you dont, dont buy them. It's pretty simple. Valve fucked up lots of shit, but when the game is finally released people will love it.

buy you can tell him that it will be some interactive movie? even though you also havent played the game? Wink

I don't think I contradicted myself...I discussed more CS.Source than HL2 no?

I actually like Doom3 it has some genuinely scarey moments. I didnt go into it with the misconception that it was going to be highly interactive, just a blast fest like the original Dooms. I actually was surprised when you could interact with some of the computer terminals and such. People keep bashing the reviews, well I would give it a high review also. It has great graphics (if your system can handle it), and great moody atmosphere. What did you expect it to be?

You liked it, I liked it. Fans who knew what they would get liked it. Others didn't.

The reviews out right now are just a marketting ploy... Oh it's soo good... ooh it's soo awesome oh for fucks sake! nothing is perfect! When hl2 comes out people will be either happy or very dissapointet. I know i'll be happy up until i realize i'll have to play it over and over or start to enjoy counter-strike Crying or Very sad

Hey... "we'll unlock hl2 on your steam account if you give us a good review" - "really? oh god thank you thank you, i love you gabe" - "ok... done... go play now Very Happy"

and it only took a few pages Very Happy

Don’t read reviews unless you trust the reviewer....

That’s all...

Don’t fall into the hype... it's just a game... and it's made by an immature company...

That’s all it will be great because you know exactly what to expect... reviews just make it seem much more than it really is... Reviews get you disappointed in a game not the game it self… reviews are like trailers for movies… they show you these awesome scenes… awesome shots and in words it sounds all great but when you play it you realize it wasn’t how the author described it. It was either better or worse.

When the game comes out you'll judge it for your self as will i...

Right now it's just some premature discussion that turned into a flame war and continued until more powerful retaliations were used... and then it got messy Very Happy

Truce until release?

so if a reviewer states that "sagboy5 is a dumb fuck" is this true then? Wink
bottom line is, neither you or anyone else can speak about how the game will be untill you guys have played it. your opinion may vary from the reviewers when you actually play the game.
im possitive that mine will since im far from a fan of futuristic shooters like this.

Injurious, your arguments for disliking HL2 are so flawed it's unbelievable.

What retard dislikes a game because when he uses noclip to travel outside the maps, there are areas missing from the map. Who gives a shit!? You don't even see that playing the normal game.

Or this gem:

"we'll like the game because valve haven't hyped it up too much"

WTF, thats not a good thing? You're just looking for excuses to hate the game.

Well I want to hate it! I want to hate it soo much but everything shown from this game states otherwise... it's going to be great... nay... awesome... But I still want to hate it D

And I like to explore maps... I want to see the dedication that was put into creating a map. I mean farcry was immense. It was exhilarating rushing through terrain seeing how beautiful it was. That why I liked farcry... it had the UMPF!

I mean it’s only single player with counter-strike as a multiplayer component and if you don’t like it that’s fine. You’ll play the single player over and over and with the lack of exploration it would get boring. Doom 3 had Easter eggs. Certain rooms out side of the map filled with weaponry.

That’s what got me through doom 3. At one point I just explored the maps and looked for hidden rooms… secretive secrets.

Hl2 is just single player and as reviews stated it isn’t THAT long. And if it plays like an ‘interactive movie’ then it will be the same thing over and over and over… and I don’t think I would want to replay a game that might have lousy dialogue… shoddy story line… etc…

I know I know what’s there that says the dialogue is shitty and the story line is shoddy… no where! Unless you played the alpha and watched some of the cut scenes… Or spoiled the game for your self by reading the entire sub title file… Shocked

“It’s impossible… Gordon got here before me? no one could have ever out ran me… “

Very Happy

so you have trusted these reviewers for the past 10years since you believe them when they say "an interactive movie"? Wink
i find that very hard to believe since i doubt all of them have even been reviewing for 10years.

anyway.
i will give you a break, but i wont help you up from the hole you have digged for yourself by telling injurios that he cant speak about something he havent played but still you did the exact same thing Smile

edit: even a magazine changes reviewers and one reviewer reviews in one way and another in one way, its not the name of the magazine that reviews Surprised

Not that long? What you wanted 50 friggin hours or something? The reviews say around 20-25 hrs. That's good enough. Hell I'm too busy right now to finish games that take up 30+ hours. I haven't been playing one of my favorite genres (RPGs) because of this Sad
