read the links? there's slowdown because of an issue with the drivers, not because the cards are slow..

i dont own an 8800, but thanx for the info. Lets hope that the problem is fixable. It would be best if it was done via a gfx-card bios fix though, as drivers often reintroduce old problems with newer versions. Or they never get a fix (older worms games, the non-3d-ones, run fuckin slow on newer nvidia cards for no apparent reason for example...).

and i like that people now look at driver-problems in real games instead of the endless nitpicking about performance-tricks for synthetic benchmarks in newer driver releases as was common practice in the past years

Nah, not in Oblivion, i'll have to use alt+tab at least once every 5-10 minutes or so.. has really made the game much less enjoyable..

Damn, didn't know there was still this many issues with those cards. The card has been out for almost a year what the hell is taking so long to get the drivers how their supposed to be.

add to 8800 the troubles of the HDR in Double Agent , and in this light the new ATI is looking more and more a best buy if you are going for the dx10

I mean with some newer games you have slowdowns. Which has nothing to do with memory problem

how can you be sure? have you compared with both a 8800 card and some other card..?

..or you can check using alt+tab in/out of the game, if it gets better then its the memory problem.. in stalker and oblivion i can easily get 20+ more FPS by just doing alt+tab. It will work untill the next time you get the slowdown (can take between 1 minute to 1 hour)

Uhm.. I don't think your problem is your 8800 then. I have an 8800 GTX and I've never had any problems with stalker.

It's 8800 gts 320 cards only and it's an issue with the memory
not being enough filling up and not clearing itself.
The 320 mb cards are crap anyway get a 640 MB.

320mb cards arent crap, they're great if you dont use high resolutions, i've seen tests and there isnt any difference in performance (only @ very high resolutions - which becomes very memory dependant, lower res isnt).

I allways use resolutions like 1024x768x32.
On some old games i use 1280x1024x32.

utter nonsense lets run supcomm at same res on both cards
and see what happens i can tell you it's better i am getting more fps than my bfg oc 320
with the 640 mb card @1024-768 exact same settings and clock.

Read:

I can live with 2fps less for 100+$ less.
Rolling Eyes

Back to Topic: I own an 8800 320mb and never experienced any slowdowns... I hope it stays that way. At least until september Wink

depends on the games your playing as for that article utter crap
im getting 40 more fps on cs source than i did on my bfg 320 for a start @ 1024-768
it's not even telling you if the clocks are set the same the 640mb card beats the 320 at same clock speed+which driver version hardly an in depth test now is it i had a bfg 320 last week the 640 mb card gives me faster results across the board. If your playing a game which doesn't use up over 256mb on the card then naturally the results are the same.
All i know is you'll be kicking yourself that you didn't get a 640mb version as the new games start coming in.
