Thanks | hmm, i guess everything top-notch and indecent.
8800 Ultra : 749,00 € (SLI? lol)
Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6800 : 1180 €
some bloated mother board & gigs of ram, etc. |
You should buy none of the above .. Just because you have the money, doesn't mean you should spend it all at once.
Quad core is currently pointless.
8800 Ultra 512+ are also pointless unless your running on something larger than a 19"
3Gb+ isn't that pointful unless you plan on running vista.
So.. 3,000.00 EUR = 2,016.22 GBP..
Antec P180 - £80.95
700W Tagan TG-700-U26 iXeye II EPS12V Ver2.9 ATX - £96.35
Intel Core 2 Duo E6700, Socket 775, 2.67 GHz, 1066MHz FSB, 4MB Cache - £204.12
Generic (gigabyte ) motherboard - £120
768Mb BFG Technology 8800 Ultra OClock, PCI-E(x16), Mem 2220MHz, GPU 630MHz, 128Stream, 2xDVI-I/HDTV - £472.81
22" Dell E228WFP Black Widescreen LCD, 1680x1050, 800:1, 300 cd/m2, 5 ms, VESA - £252.50
2GB (2x1GB) Corsair TwinX DDR2 XMS2 Dominator, PC2-10000, 240 Pin, Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 5-5-5-18 - £468.94
x2 - 400 Gb Seagate ST3400620NS Barracuda ES, SATA300, 7200 rpm, 16MB Cache, 8 ms, NCQ - £149.20
Pioneer DVR-112BK 18x DVD±R, 10x DVD±DL, DVD + RW x8/-RW x6, DVD-RAM x12, IDE, Black, OEM - £19.92
Cooler - £30
Mouse / Keyboard - £100
= 1994.79
Might want to swap out the widescreen monitor for something of similar price. Remember though, the GFX card is pointless without a high res screen, so if you go for something smaller, get a different GFX card.

As far as I am aware (and I could very well be wrong) the memory addressed above the 2Gb mark can only be used by the system / kernel and not by running applications.

These power supply recommendations in this thread are horrible. Go with a nice Enermax, Seasonic, Corsair, PC P&C, FSP or Antec model.
I see it all the time and I am always amazed at how many people pour large amounts of money into nice hardware components (CPUs, mobos, GPUs, RAM, etc.) and then take a chance on powering them with some lameass power supply. It's just asking for disaster.

You think Tagan is a bad PSU manufacturer? More importantly, you think Corsair is a good PSU manufacturer :O!

Quad core wont come fully into play for at least a year (except for games like Crysis and Unreal), if not more.
