I noticed peergardian is using about 50% of my CPU.

When I looked at it, I noticed what looks like someone port scanning me? Since this list flashes very fast.

Tell me what you think..

That seems to be your computer trying to connect to itself as both the source and destination are the same. Best bet would be to check the port numbers for each of the attempted connections to try and figure out what they are trying to do.

search-agent 1234/udp Infoseek Search Agent
xtgui 4095/udp xtgui information service
sql*net 66/udp Oracle SQL*NET
# 48620-49150 Unassigned

Does indeed seem like something is a little odd with your machine, but this isn't something external.

Yeah, I was thinking about a format. But I will need to backup my data first and I have no other HDD to do that on (it died) So ill need to wait until I get a new HD.

Off-Topic : Do you know any software and will recover files from a near dead HD (It would need to be Linux live CD based or DOS)

if it will work in pio mode then you would be able to use it in windows, just very slowly... try using ghost 8 boot floppy to try... not sure what pin21 i used for at the mo (at work)

How long does it freeze? If it's running in PIO, it could just be taking a reeeeeeeeaaaly long time Wink

Or alternatively, if you aren't using it as the boot drive and windows is freezing while it's a slave, Pin 21 is probably more important that just forced PIO mode. If it is a slave, maybe try booting ino safe mode, selecting the drive and forcing windows to use it in PIO mode? I'm thinking windows expects it to be a DMA drive and is trying to run it as such, hece the lockup? I'm grasping at straws though...

PCWorld had a good article on (free and not) data recovery tools...google search should help you find it.

Will PIO mode work if the drive size is 250GB?
