Had a quick game last night. Man they've overcomplicated things or at least made it look like ass making it seem complicated. The GUI takes up some major screen real estate as well Still I haven't played it to enjoy it, I just run around it checking it out.

Lame lame game. The design shoves you back to the 90's, the gui is HUGE and the units resemble tiny pricks. You don't get the feel like in C&C games, where you're in the battle. Also, the music is continues bullshit. PASS ON IT.

I'm not overly impressed with it. I'm going to stick with company of heroes for now.

Yeah.. Nothing special. CoH and DoW are still the best strategy games in my book.

Guess it's not your kind of game then. I loved the origenal TA and still play it sometime, and SupCom is only better!

The units are very small scale for a reason, game dev's aren't at the point yet where they can render huge detailed units and at the same time maintain 1000+ of them on screen. Not only are games not there yet but the hardware itself, the amount of fillrate and CPU needed to accomodate that is extreme.
This is one of the few games that hides the ceiling on unit numbers very well with the scale and amount of them. Build 500+ units and watch the battle and tell me it's not entertaining.
The only bad part about the game is the very lifeless unit design and buildings. But that's probably another sacrifice to keep that huge unit number viable for the dev's.

For me, when TA originally came out it had an interesting angle in terms of graphics. It was bold. This is very bland and feels more rough around the edges (in relative comparison to games of today). There isn't a comfortable zoom setting either so you're constantly shifting from one to another and it's very hard (on the highest detail settings no less) to differentiate between units, buildings and terrain. Again this is a sacrifice they had to make and I respect that; but I don't think it looks that good graphically overall. It doesn't feel as MEATY if that's a good word for it
I'm almost positive the game will grow on me eventually and that modifications will help in that regard but I'll admit I'm not as impressed as I was hoping to be. The single player actually looks interesting from a glance, but I've really been playing with the skirmish as I don't like the hand holding you get in early missions. Multiplayer is where it's at of course but no way of testing that.

If it had uber-graphics you wouldn't be able to run it with so many units, think about that for a second.

You could just have it so that the details scale really fluidly as you adjust the zoom, like how B&W2 handles it. Besides, it's not really about the detail of the units it's more that the unit design is generic and bland. They have no personality.

It's not a question of technical graphics. It's a question of artistry.

And the generic story... Bla! I yawned after watching the intro. The most cliched thing I've seen this year.
Nice idea, poorly executed.

Granted there is a few big unites, but they take forever to build and pretty much never accours in a multiplayer game. Multiplayer games is just constant spam of lvl1 units vs other lvl 1 units.

Even then, nothing feels grand scale... Sure there are many units on screen and all, but it just feels like... well, micromachines, lol. Can't explain why, it just does.
