Same reason almost every RPG maker feels they have to go to first person view and realtime combat now, when there's nothing at all wrong with 3rd person/isometric or turn-based combat. Some marketing person decided that's the only way to sell the game, so the devs go ahead and 'fix' something that wasn't broken in the first place.

Very easy to go on to DVD joining 4 CD's in one ISO and erasing the files that repeat themselves. But it when RELOADED does the crack.

i played the game for like 5 minutes.. and exited quickly.. i dont mind the 3d... but the voices??? WTF?? Cooper had the best lonley ranger.. good bad guy.. misterious voice.. and now he sound like a trashman!!.. that and the comic-book cinematics at the begining of the mission.. in the meantime i picked up againg Desperados 1.. man.. that a good game.. i still love the graphics... and it's been 5 YEARS!! .. better than any 3d crap nowadays!

Obviously, E3 news is worthless to make a statement like that with a straight face. All companies would like more money, Atari included. You have absolutely no facts or figures to back up your claims that the Clone is hurting alot. You post has to be a joke. |
You should watch news and you should read offical game forum. And you should listen to Atari multiple Support forum. Problem is an easy discribtion:
EU: Desperados retailed and sold very well in the first 2 weeks. Also alot of online shops in the uk and france had a great amount of orders placed.
When Unleashed pred the clone 3 shops called Atari if there is some major bugs in the game or so as they had a cancel rate for the day and the day after clone for about 80%.
Taken from offical Atari AG News:
f.e.
UKs amazon had (to their claims) 52.000 placed. When the clone came 47.600+ orders got canceled. Thats why Amazon called Atari asking if something is wrong or a bad charge or something like this.
You see?
It seems RLD doesnt ignore such facts. A secucrack (since it broken) did never as long as these days. It was a big news on Atari Homepage that Atari and Spellbound need the success of Desperados 2 to continue their work or get insolvency.

Link to that info from a reliable source (i.e. not Atari themselves)? Calling company PR spin "facts" is pretty silly.
Anyway, I can't imagine that many fans of the Desperados series or other Spellbound games would consider this game worth buying. They made a poor design decision to try to get new fans while alienating many of the old ones, if that comes back to bite them in the ass, so be it. I played the game, saw how much they screwed it up from the previous one, and won't be buying it now. That's not the clone's fault, it's the game's.
Same goes for Atari. This is the same company that shoved Boiling Point out the door in a completely unplayable state, and even after several months/patches the game still never came close to the potential it had if they had simply waited to release it when it was done. Fahrenheit came close to being ruined in the same way; it was still a good game but the last few chapters of the game were obviously rushed and detracted from the experience. Atari has shitty business practices, and if people are so wary of them now that they download the games they release first rather than shelling out $50 for something that is non-returnable, then they only have themselves to blame.

Desperados 1 was not that awesome, Commandos 2 was king of the genre at that time. And Desperados 2 is not that bad, so please stop inflating things.

Desperados 1 was great it was the first game that had thinking AI in such a game , even commandos didn`t have it , you could kill every one and no one noticed it , but in Desperados 1 kill some one and someone that have walked the same route will notice that one of his men is missing and start shouting to the others and asking for him and if they answer that they cannot find or seen him then they will start a search party , and THAT AI and this idear of those badies thinking was awesome ,
becoz Commandos 2 was only graphics and no thinking AI only script decisions and they only reacted if they have seen a body

Wow, that is impressive. I don't think i've ever seen that in a game before. Not even Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory or the Hitman series have that, and they are games that really should.
