Yours's dumb, he couldn't even figure out, it was the lift that Knox's dad has built for Harwood. Elevators had been prohibited by the Pact, and were unknown to silo's residents.

I didn't like the ridiculous thin excuse given by the mad trillionaire as motivation for creating quite costly silos. Iranians, of all people, creating nanites cloud first, before Americans? Give me a break!
I didn't like the resolution of Orla Kent's murder, I didn't buy into Harwood's motivation for stealing the critical bulbs.

I still love the series, don't get me wrong.

I just think this entire convoluted plot of silo book series and TV series is an afterthought of Hugh Howey's simple idea: what if I take YA City of Ember series and add a twist, that the outside is still toxic (unlike City of Ember's outside which healed), and helmet's inner screens are rigged to show healthy nature, while a single camera outside the silo shows the truth. The 'cleaning' of the silo's camera thus become a crucial plot device. That's it, that's what it was in the beginning. After the relative success of this short story Hugh Howey had to expand this simplistic story into ever so more complicated and less and less believable universe of silos.

The Iran angle is explored and explained in the book. They don't have the tech first, US and Israel are the first to actually develop and use it, and Iran throws a nuclear weapon in Israel to try and stop it, but eventually Iran also advances and eventually has it, and that's the dilemma the "founders" find themselves in; they fear that even if the Iran nanos are destroyed, the "cat is out of the bag", and all it takes is a mad man to just push a button and trigger a worldwide superpandemic that cascades to annihilation. The show's introduction now feels unearned and the gravitas of the situation is not well delivered. Book 2's structure is two timelines that progress into an eventual collapse, but the "founder" timeline builds the story over quite a long time. Here, they introduced the woman genderswapped Thurman in one episode, then simple Jack Colin Hanks is the scary but charming money, and then they even make the woman Thurman with no agency of her own ("I'm just a believer" Rolling Eyes), when the whole plan in the book, the real "pact", is Thurman and two more who try to solve the dilemma.

While I find the plan they had in the book is ultimately not well thought out and is why it fails, the dilemma is actually very interesting and the solution isn't as bad as instinct pushes.

I don't understand why the show is attempting to oversimplify a premise that is already quite simple but nuanced.

The whole Per Stensen lunch and dinner conversations are extremely poorly written. They flew out Daniel and Helen for that?

s1 writing and world building were very solid.
s2 writing was poor
s3 writing is uneven. There are some good episodes, but then there is turd like this.

Also, I hate when characters in a show are not competent and act emotionally. Sadly Silo has many such characters.

I have just watched the agency (both seasons), and it was such a breath of fresh air, that you had actual competent people in it (playing on all sides). Silo in comparison has teenagers.

They sure know how to milk each episode Laughing but looks like the final episode is going to be a banger. We might get to see a bit of silo 1 too.

The numbers don't decide, the system is a lie. The river running dry, the wings of butterflies.
And you may pour us away like soup. Like we're pretty broken flowers.
We'll take back what is ours. One day at a time.

There's no way the pregnant girl descended more than 2 floors down in the silo 18 considering the length of the entrance stairs.

Also there's no way vegetation failed to return to silos' ground 350 years after that nuke detonation.
Hiroshima and Chernobyl are testaments to that.
Unless of course some nanomagics constantly maintain the devastation on the surface around silos.

The barren landscape is not a product of the nuclear explosion. The bomb is just a red herring to get people to enter the silos.

The last episode is named "Troy". Think which character this might reference and why. Very Happy

In the book, Helen ends up marrying and having children with Donald's/Daniel's best friend who figures out what silo 1 is going to be, and switches Donald's place in the silos, and Anna, the senator daughter, keeps Helen in silo 18 because she is still in love with Donals (it is established they were lovers before he married Helen). The best friend character does not exist in the show.

I wonder if they'll somehow play the Daniel unborn child as part of the plot; maybe make Juliette a descendant of "Troy" and play on his nostalgia to get him to help them. Laughing

I've pretty much googled out the books' plot key points after writing my previous comment.
Sorry, couldn't contain the immediate gratification facet of today's internet.

I wonder, will the show runners touch silo 40 storyline in the next season, ignore it completely or make a spin off series if/when the author will have finished writing his new trilogy about silo 40 rebellion.

I doubt it. I doubt they'd have too much of the silo 1 story. In the second book, silo 18 takes a back seat in order to build silo 1. There is some flashback to silo 18 (the Mission and Crow story), but that is, again, in service of silo 1 building. In the show, they chose to fill the story with useless silo 18 drama. "Muuhhh son will forget oehez noehz he deserves a non killing mommy KAMEEEEEEEEL i loev you soe much, think of our boooooyyy KAMEEEEEEEEL (and forget I used to kill and hurt people left and right Laughing )". The Camille and Simms story is so retarded and useless. But now they have to continue with it, so I doubt they'll have room for silo 40 and the surrounding. Maybe they'll mention it, as they need to establish the drones in silo 1 (and their pilots), but we already had the indian get shot by drones.

BTW, so much for "muh algorithmz". They just brushed it off as "oh emotions, so not algorithm lol wut ". The changes this season are too dumb, but it looks like they are harmless and they converged on the same basic plot as the books.

@zenux Instead of reading small bits on the internets, why not read the books?

I'm old fashioned, books to adaptations experience is always a single-direction road for me.

Otherwise, the exposure to a screen adaptation with the preconceptions learnt from it ruins the books for me.

By the way, it bugged me, when I saw the nuke explosion, that the flash of light and sound came at the same time.
Should have been the ball of blinding light first, slowly forming the notorious mushroom, our heroes should have immediately developed nasty burns on open skin.
And only several seconds later the sound of it could have reached the silos compound.

If we consider the advertised prior to this scene silos ability to withstand nuclear explosion at a distance as close as 2 miles, then the sound should have gotten to them 9-10 seconds later, as speed of sound is ~ 0.2 miles per second or 343 m/s.

The show runners could have done better.

In the books, they see the flash first, then hear the shockwave.

But seriously, upon entry in each silo, everyone is blasted with medical nanos to take care of radiation poisoning. That is explicitly stated in the books. It's part of the "argon gas" system when going to clean, only a different "argon" "gas" goes out. Laughing

In the book, medical nanos are set up to be very potent in extending life and regenerating cells.

The thing is, the visuals for the explosion were fantastic. It's relatively easy fix to tweak sound arrival in later editions of the episode.

Yeah, probably the VFX house that did the effect had nothing (if not less) to do with the sound effects. These productions are very compartmentalized.
