I only loosely check once in an year. They did add some things like mining, salvage and refueling with ships. On foot there's some professions such as medical tool to heal players, fps shooting and some other things. If I get a new PC I will install and see for myself. But for some reason Twitch always has dozens of streamers so guess people find things to do.
Fixed that because Daikatana took only 4 years. DNF was 14 years
But nowadays even smaller indie games take 5+ years to make. So there's some kind of "inflation" with dev times. Multiplayer ones 2x more. Even World of Warcraft took 10 years. Problem with SC is the ridiculous feature-creep that doesn't look to have an end... At least as long as the dumbasses keep sending 1+ millions $$$ every day.
ppl say its feature creep but is it? Did they really add that many features ? Didnt they practically downsize it in scope in regards to planets or do i remember it wrong

The original scope would have been a lot closer to Elite Dangerous planets and POI's then it is to today.

They didn't add because they can't do everything. initially they planned (or maybe that was just a deliberate hoax) to add 100 handcrafted systems with at least 1 planet and moons on each system. When they got stuck at barely making 2 planets for 4-5 years, they said the number of systems will be lowered to 5-10. The Star Map in the RSI site still shows 300+ planets, but most of them will remain just images with short text.
Other close to impossible idea was to simulate complete real-life physics with rotating planets and lightning, temperature and seasons depending on the proximity to the Sun (or Suns).
There was even idea add realistic medical system with diagnostics, different kinds of pathogens, viruses, bones that can break and get healed etc. Part of that is already in the game but as far as I know it's basic and not fun to play.
Other stuff is the salvaging and mining systems to be very complex, but again only fracture of what's planned has been in the game.
But I have to admit I have not even played the game for 4-5 years now and only loosely follow the development. Maybe these things are now working good and other mechanics got added that I am not aware of.
"We have taken a look at the release windows at the start of 2027, and decided that Q2 provides a better time for Squadron 42 to release."
Remember when some people were certain it would release in 2018 ?
Over a decade of development and they can't put together a competent shooter, using an engine made for shooters.

In a new blog post, Cloud Imperium Games CEO Chris Roberts announced that Squadron 42 will be launching in Q2 2027. The studio had previously announced 2026 as its release window and reaffirmed late last year that it was still targeting that. However, Roberts noted that GTA 6 is going to suck up all of the attention this fall, and as a result, it doesn't make sense to launch a new game during that time.

does starfield exist for consoles? isnt gta 6 only releasing on consoles this year?
am i wrong?
Roberts gathering the team: -"Okay, guys, we already used all possible excuses to delay the SQ42 (that we all know will never get released, right *wink* *wink*). What should we do? Release this bareboned tech demo we have been "working" on for the past 15 years?"
Some guy: -"Nah, just say it gets delayed to not overlap with GTA6."
Roberts: -"But, but... GTA6 releases on consoles only this year. SQ42 is only for PC, my dude."
Some guy2: -"Yeah, but our players are dumb af and won't notice this minor detail."
Roberts: -"You are right, indeed. And we can use this same excuse next year when GTA6 releases on PC!"
Everyone: -"Fuck yeah! Science, bitches!! Let's sniff the new batch of coke now!!!"
