Fuck AI interviews. That is all...

I've done maybe 5 of them. So damn annoying.

Fake person avatar, fake voice, both slightly uncanny valley.
They ask a question, you answer it then get asked to expand on a thing you didn't say, but they misinterpreted from what you said. THEN went you point out you didn't mention that, they then go "Ok, that fine, you have no experience in that, i understand."

I didn't say that either. I said that what you asked me to expand on, wasn't what we was talking about to expand..you dumb bot.

Yea dystopian as hell Laughing
Seems a LOT of businesses use ATS (just learned what that was) to pre-scan your resume and give a score to see if they even look at it. So you need a ATS compliant and optimized resume so it 'picks' you. Then they use AI pre-interview interviews to screen more people, before you even talk to a person about a job you are good fit for.

I had to find the email. Some send you transcripts of the Ai interview. This was the most annoying one. Pretty sure I am not getting that job...haha
 Spoiler:

If it was a person, Id have a different tone. Maybe I need to pretend its a person I am talking to. Just hard to be polite to an AI that is being dumb.

No, Id have been hired instantly:
I looked at your resume, and after talking to you for only a few minutes. I can tell you are the type of person we need. Both technically savvy, and highly charismatic. And being that damn good looking won't hurt on zoom calls.
Congratulations on the new hire. unfortunately the position is only temporary though, as we are trying to streamline you to CEO as soon as possible.

Perhaps that was the test Laughing. Trying to annoy you and see how you respond. So it wasn't a job interview but a psychological test.
Its a job interview btw, off course you need to be polite even if it is AI. If I would have read those answers you wouldn't be hired either. Good chance a real person is reading the actual dialogue.

Reminds me of those psychology tests during college you could do for a few bucks. They never told you what it was about or what they tested. Most of them were annoying as fuck so I always believed that was the test, they wanted to see how long it takes to piss people off.

Btw if they don't think you are even worth a real person screening you, why bother about the job. Seems like a shit employer.

Id say I passed the test then.
I got skipped over, but I don't want to work for someone that would do that in the interview. We Both won out Smile
If my first impression of you is you test how impersonal I can be to AI. Well hold my beer Razz

And surprisingly a large number of tech jobs seem to be doing it now. Even good jobs. They get 1000's of people applying from linkedin. So less manpower needed to thin the herd.
I mean the ATS resume thing. Even the AI chat only I don't mind, I did a few of them. its the fake overly cheerful avatar interviews Im like "yea...ok. This isn't a 6 figure job. If I pass this bot, or not. So be it.".

Weird. This is not how you deal with potential employees. The company also has to make an impression.

Remembered a story from my dad. For his first real job interview he applied for a job at Phillips as a graphical designer. He was in no way qualified for the job he told. They gave him a private chauffeur, drove him through Eindhoven all day to show the company, offered a decent lunch and then he got the interview. For a person with zero relevant experience Laughing.

So 60 years later big companies believe they can say fuck you, deal with this AI bot and perhaps you are worthy of talking to some of us. This would be unthinkable in Europe btw (but give them time)

@Stormwolf
Right?
I cant find the post now. But someone posted on Linked in a pie chart of "Applicants applies, vs Applicants a human put eyes on the resume" for a company they are a recruiter for.
And it was like 95% of them failed to get past the 'a bot decides'. They got SO many applicants they can afford to ignore good fits, for people that only best fit on the technical side.

Which I get. But like where I was working. They wanted to talk to people first. Since it was a client facing (Sometimes you are the ONLY contact for our company).
They care about your resume bullet points for sure. But they want to make sure you can 'be' that client facing person by talking with you. Like I got picked over a guy WAY more qualified than me way back when I got the job. At the time I didn't know newspapers, or shit about tower printing presses, but the other guy wasn't what they was looking for personality wise.
They knew that its easier to train someone a good fit to learn the parts they don't know and good at ' office speaking' when needed, over a know it all that knew the ins and outs, but you wanna punch in the face.

I know what you are thinking, he sounds JUST like me: That my day-to-day personality isn't all flowers and hospitality...haha.
But I got my "Put on my work face" persona they liked. I could do that "seriouz businezz' professional tone for Like Dow Jones or USA today on a bridge meeting. Then hang up and rant on teams or to my wife, about how damn annoying they are to work with and some of their IT I am surprised made it to work without tying their shoes together.

My last boss called me a 'corporate chameleon' once. Whoever I worked with one-on-one. I just adopt a clone-ish tone of their persona and use it with them. The more I talk to them, the more they like me to work with. Because I am 'like' them.
The rough no-nonsense manual labor pressmen? Im one of the guys. Bitching along with them we are trying to make old ass machines work on a deadline, and corporate don't give a shit. yada yada.
Head of IT and server admin? I am super serious, tech lingo throwing (to help him feel smugly smart if he's that type) uptight white collar guy where business impression and perception is a white glove matter.
Edit: just remembered, my boss said even my voice changes depending who it is, when he's been on calls with me. Forgot about that, I dont notice it.

You know it yourself this is the minimum bar, the reality is much stricter. And many people apply for it

https://www.usajobs.gov/job/870592000

Preferrably under 40
Physical fitness pass
Thorough background check
Polygraph test
No major disqualifiers: Criminal history, illegal drug use, financial issues can disqualify you

If you pass all that, you attend mandatory 6 months of paid training at the Border Patrol Academy (includes firearms, tactics, law, spanish if needed, physical training etc). You must successfully complete it

The labour market is still tight both in the US and Europe.
If you want decent people joining, companies need to do their best. The best candidates will never join a company if they are treated like shit during selection.

And if you are competing with a 1000 others for a crap job. Think of doing something else. There are better carreers for all. It might take some extra education, but people of every skill level are wanted.

I think it's more everyone is applying for everything.
I don't need more training. I mean I could always learn something new and not opposed to it, happy to.
But I got 19 years in software development, SaaS deployment and support, and SLA based clients and environments. CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, ITIL 4 Foundation, Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals, AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner, [Old] Fortinet NSE (expired, but I had it)

I got enough to find SOMETHING. I hope Very Happy

Even Sr. Software Engineer jobs are flooded.

It's a senior position, 67% of them are entry level qualification applicants.
Even with that 26% are senior level. is there really 1000 senior engineers applying? I suspect some of those are people of a senior level in other fields, 'spray and pray' job offerings.

Its a really sad state right now, interviewing others is a pain, interviewing for jobs is a pain, a ton of competition a ton of BS on both sides. FUCK AI, this shit is a great tool in some areas but a fucking wildcard everywhere else.

Didn’t knew it was that bad allready for software engineers. Is this all due to ai?
Seems like you shouldn’t have any problems finding a job 5 years ago.
