Holy crap the DLC is underwhelming as hell. 3 "Main" missions that are like 2 times go fetch 3 times a item from a "dungeon" which uses same layouts and then a space battle to end it... thats it. Then the Free Lanes stuff is annoying as hell. Trying to navigate is annoying as hell and trying to reach the locations in space then I keep missing them and then have to go around again and so on...
Holy cow I knew Starfield was low but this is some next level lowness. "It just works" Todd strikes again.

you know a gameplay element is a very annoying bad idea when you have to give the player an option on how frequently it happens.
Today is a special day.
Starfield is getting a long-awaited update, Free Lanes, that aims to address a few major complaints about the game.
I have always found the universe of Starfield truly beautiful. With all of its flaws, it stands as an enormous open world that absolutely embodies what a Bethesda game set in space would be.
This update, paired with the new Terran Armada DLC, seems to have more people interested in Starfield than ever before, and it is fantastic to see people coming around when it comes to checking out this adventure.
Is it the perfect game? Absolutely not; however, I do believe it was the target of a few unnecessary hate campaigns. Yes, there were glaring problems at launch, though it's impossible to miss the PlayStation crowd review bombing it due to exclusivity, which is all but gone now that Starfield is getting a PS5 release, mixed with the Bethesda hate train that has followed it since release.
Again, there are very valid criticisms to be had of Starfield, but you can easily see the difference between those who gave it a shot and were disappointed and those who looked for clicks and likes by posting hateful rants about it.
This truly feels like a big reset button for Starfield, and I am very happy that more people will get to enjoy this universe as much as I did.
That being said, today also marks the day that I finally feel comfortable covering Starfield in videos the way I have always wanted.
First, covering the main quest and bulk of the story, we can find with Starfield and its DLCs. Followed by videos about each star system and the planets they hold.
With the Free Lanes update, it finally feels worth it to do so, as we are getting more points of interest not only on planets but in outer space itself.
With the Artemis II mission underway, I think people will be charmed by Starfield's NASA Punk aesthetic and enjoy cruising the stars as humans mark history by being the furthest from Earth we have ever been.
Happy Starfield Day!
See you at The Unity!
My favorite gaming lolcow coming out swinging with some new fresh milk thanks to this update

Kurwapunk also has considerably better writing and quest design, with its city feeling cohesive despite the jank and gimped interactivity/little focus on exploration. You can get a solid experience out of that game as long as you treat it for what it is - far from the deep RPG that was originally promised, sadly - and add some QoL mods that enhance the experience (stealth, immersive addons, dismemberment etc.)
Toddfield, on the other hand, comes with a forgettable Paglia-approved D-rated "story" that no patch can fix and some surprisingly disjointed exploration on account of the combo proced(erp)ural generation + [LOADING SCREEN], which is a capital sin for the type of game it wants to be. Both updates and mods can certainly improve its variety and make the experience appealing to looter shootin' aficionados, but alas, it didn't work for me and I had to abandon the ship after a while.
The loading screens are a limitation of their retarded engine. When it happened in Oblivion in 2004 or even Skyrim in 2011, when fast storage was not a thing, it was understandable and acceptable. Not any more. But it's obvious they really can't do much with that engine. No idea if it's just a crazy amount of technical debt, or they just don't have the talent to actually take that engine forward, but obviously, it's bad—very bad, and it has gotten worse as they tack more and more cruft. You can polish a turd, but it's still a turd.
StarUI (the Starfield specific SkyUI mod) was, as expected, broken with this update. Seeing as how the mod developer has let all his other mods lapse into outdatedness for over two years now, I sure hope someone is working on a replacement. The default UI for inventory management is so fucking awful it hurts.

It's only 10 bucks.
What can we expect at that price from a company that sold the same game '17' times?!
Considering (some of) today's corpo AAA practices, it could have been just a damn skin...
