Well my issue has been resolved. I don't know which step did it, but I reseated the video card, and switched 8 pin power cables from the PSU. I have 2 sets of 2 8 pin PCI-e power cables, so I just switched to one from each. No more crashing.
Id say its less about price, and more about do you need one?
If you want it just to have it (I do that usually) go for it. If it's about upgrading, if you have at least a 3x00 [nvidia] or 6x00 [AMD] I'd say skip.
I got a 4080 and friend has a 5090, and comparing them in games to see if its worth it for me, (or was worth it for him), not much real world difference, at least at 3440x1440/120hz.
His nudges above mine in some games, or some situations. But overall talking and comparing FPS as we play, basically the same:
Game mine 'struggle' on, his does to.
We cap at 120 fps and are both usually hitting it, with him dipping slightly less than me when it does dip under 120.
But not enough to be worth the price.

Got a RTX 3080 and a 77" 4K 120FPS TV. DLSS works wonders to keep frame rates at 60 with minimal upscaling artefacts. When that Indiana Jones game showcased path tracing around the time of the RTX 5000 series launch, I held off playing it until my rig can do it justice. Now I'm wondering whether I fell for hype, no noteworthy path tracing showcase game has been released since.
Maybe that's all he can push.
Mine does 165 max, but I cannot get that in all games, so I lock it to 120 as its internal 'max' as that seems the sweet spot for my 4080. And if down the road get a new GPU that can I don't need a new screen, just bump it to the 165.
For tracing I agree. It's the early 2000s cubemap reflections hype all over. Demos use it to show it off, games use it in gimmicky ways or as a sale point. But isn't really useful or runnable for everyone at a good FPS, until its to the point that its mundane and ubiquitous to see it.
For me, until the entire game is ray/path/whatever traced ala Vray or such style (nothing is rasterized, the entire scene, and things in it is traced). I don't care about having it or not.

I wouldn't put it in the same category as cube maps or pixel shader. Mainly because RT (esp PT) is just so god damn unprecedently expensive, not just in computing power but also electricity. 500+Watts just to tick a few settings is just a whole other level. If it does not get way more efficient in the future (which I see the opposite happening, every gen requires more power than the last) we will reach ridiculous levels of requirements for it to the point where maybe a few billionaires with their own nuclear power plants can use it.
power use worries would make sense if bitcoin didnt exist ... but it does and nobody seems to care and farmers have built their own power stations and nuclear plants so bring on them 500 wat gpus . i dont give a fuck , i want my "cheap" fps why china hasnt delivered on some quad gpucore old ass technology pumping out frames for a budget damned
not a single goddamn revieuwer is going to bitch about power usage if the price of the card makes sense and isnt 750 eur+ . bring back the 100-250 gpu market segment . anyone bitching about elctricity can rot in bitcoin jail lol
