Gentlemen the movie was great, but the TV show didn't really pan out too well.
I don't think it's a good choice for people that haven't played the games IMO, there's a bit too much stuff that doesn't have enough exposition to be clear.
I must admit i was quite blown away by the first episode, if it continues like that i'm in
yeah, there are many references to the games that you won't get if you didn't play them, stuff you just won't think is cool because you have no connection to it or you won't even know what it's suppsoed to do / be. That will make it a bit worse than for someone who knows the lore.
Gotta agree with Tim Cain (just watched his take on it), they nailed the humor and looks. You can tell Nolan played the games and he's a fan.
Episode 2 was great too.
Had to rewatch some of episode 1 because i was so concentrated on looking at shit, forgot to listen to dialogue and following what was really going on. Noticed Tim said the same haha
After 2 episodes, I think I'm gonna skip it, not my vibe. Feels kinda cheap, plastic-y, stiff, sterile. They got the aesthetics right, but it lack some sort of grit IMO.
I'm slowly growing into it, I have to admit The slapstick stuff is stupid, but when Matt Berry showed up as a robot, I was grinning The acting is in general pretty good and I like how they take the subject matter serious.
"The wasteland has it's own golden rule: Thou shalt get sidetracked by bullshit every goddamn time."
Is a great quote too
There must have been a door there in the wall, when I came in.
Truly gone fishing.
... the BoS knight Maximus accompanies on a mission turns out to be a coward who pisses his pants when he runs into a Yao guai, tries to run away and gets his ass kicked. Not exactly a stoic badass.
"I think Call of Duty resonates because it's believable and relatable," Sledgehammer Games cofounder Michael Condrey says.
Believable and relatable...Yep, sounds like Call of Duty
not sure why so many complains about the humor? did you even play the games? even 1-2 has a lot of humor, even pop culture references. the slap stick is like 3% of the show so extremely easy to look past too. if it had a too serious tone it wouldn't feel like fallout.
Minor spoilers, but the town was shown in the trailer anyway so:
It's dumb. Shady Sands should be closer to Vegas, but they moved it to LA because you can see it from the Griffith observatory.
So yeah, the lore related writing is kinda bad for me, especially since it feels like Shady Sands being in LA was done mainly because they wanted a reference to the games.
The comedy bits I don't mind, since that's pretty much Fallout, and I think the worst of it is mainly due to how badly the CG is for the T-60 in some of the slapstick scenes.
For me, the worst thing is probably the Vault-tec related stuff that kinda ruins the world for me.
Spoiler:
I've never been a fan of that theory that Vault-tec dropped the bomb because it just makes everyone involved in that decision to be really fucking stupid. But it seems the write saw this theory and went with it. It's not stated that they dropped it themselves (or maybe it was, I was fast forwarding / skipping just to finish the show), but it's established and is canon that Vault-tec was going to do it if the Commies didn't do it first.
Just so they could sell vaults and make sweet profits and rule the world once it has been cleansed.
Which I suppose is the writers thinking they've made a smart and scathing critique of capitalism. Except they haven't because it's fucking retarded. What capitalist wouldn't take the short term gain. Why would they want to nuke the world and lose everything? Just so they can maybe come out on top after a couple hundred years, but no guarantees of course.
And then what would have been the point with regards to profit since the money they have would likely be worthless in the post nuke world they'd eventually emerge to.
They also added Mr. House as part of the cabal of mustache twirling villains planning to nuke the world for $$$. Ruined his character.
Also the NCR is basically just a bunch of raiders now or something. Or at least allied with raiders? Because apparently if you nuke their capital, that means all their other cities cease existing or mattering or whatever.
I think the show would have been better if it wasn't in California. I also think the show would have been better if it was all set in pre Great War America and / or surrounding states.
The Vault-tec plot is retarded. No sane person would do that in the name of profit. Dead man can't pay.

finished and while i only played fallout 4 so i cant speak about the lore i very much liked this until the end, i think it was great, had enough mistery to it and the humour was just enough but then it also gets serious so its a good balance. but its funny how much it feels like westworld sometimes.

from all that bs they managed to make a cohesive story so congrats to that. with tlou they had mostly everything so only thing left was to not fuck it up
Binged it last night. Overall it was pretty good and better than I expected. Having played the games, I enjoyed all the little nods, homages and tributes. Dumb and funny more often than not but entertaining for sure with some great hyper violence and gore. The music was also great with so many of those excellent Fallout radio tracks so I’m gonna keep an eye out for the OST! Apparently season 2 has been given the green light but may as well forget it about it for a couple of years now lol.
Spoiler:
I do think the first half was better than the second half though but at least it didn’t end on much of a cliffhanger.
I gotta say I’m looking forward to a new playthrough with the next gen update of Fallout 4 after watching this
just finished it here what a pleasant surprise overall and Goggins definitely adds a lot of value to it.
I wasn't expecting much, especially with Todd involved but it is actually good, I enjoyed it and look forward to season 2.
