Soon the rich will have no need for that 80% of the population, they'll live in walled AI & robot served and protected societies while the rest of us ooga booga it through.
Got a problem with it? A bullet will be auto-guided to your eyeball
If it can really feel pain and try to avoid it, that is where it will develop real consciousness.
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."
The most interesting thing in terms of art/music/sound design or even for scripts or movie material is how fast we can work with it. Testing concepts that otherwise could take many years of getting good at for a human (and thus likely never tried at all because the idea might seem stupid or too out-there to try), an AI can do that in seconds. Tell it to mix Ernst Heckel with H.R Giger and Alex Grey or whatever, maybe something amazing emerges that we didn't even think about.

No, that's not how it generates responses.
I dont think you grasp how it work out the dialog it makes. It's not piecing together already existing multiple strings of words, it's a giant matrix of probability of similar usages of words from a mind boggling range of that word used across all places it can be, with weights on the connection they have to context of the words before and after it. It is not using huge groups of 'single strings of words' and stitching the clumps together.
If ya want, I can give you the entire dialog of one of those. You'd be hard pressed to find where it 'stole that sentence from'. Since it doesn't work that way.
There IS cues to work out if an AI probably made it. But the more detail you give it, the less it detectable. Especially in fiction. The reason they can tell on say homework or essays is they are asking it for details of an existing thing, and it's limited to the data it has on that thing, just reworded. (as it cannot makeup details of a non-fiction thing).
A rough concept of how it does it:
(13:40 if it doesn't jump to it)
-We don't control what happens to us in life, but we control how we respond to what happens in life.
-Hard times create strong men, strong men create good times, good times create weak men, and weak men create hard times. -G. Michael Hopf

lol no one would be interested in AI if it just copied, it's not what its about at all. its not how it learns.
to go through stuff is not exactly time consuming either, i do it a lot for AI, you get good at that too.. but as time goes on its less and less needed.
That AI will never be creative, wise or compassionate is a huge cope. There is no fundamental law that says so. There is no special or hidden function of the brain that can't be emulated.
It's like religious or spiritual people holding on to the concept of the soul.
The indignation when heliocentrism was suggested. The moral outrage when Darwin proposed that we are evolved from primates.
Every dogma that somehow we are special or unique was eventually shattered by scientific progress.

Yep, generative AI will never become truly intelligent. It'll take completely new technologies/algorithms, which we have no clue about yet. Real AGI is possibly (probably) still hundreds of years away.
There must have been a door there in the wall, when I came in.
Truly gone fishing.
People are just angry it changes things up in a rather fundamental way, or at least so they think.
The same thing happened with synthesizers. People said it wasn't creative and it was all about "pressing a button", it would take the jobs from people who's learned a REAL instrument.
If we've learned anything, it is that analogue will always be considered to be the more luxurious of the two, something you pay for and something you can advertise completely differently than something digital. "We recorded the album entirely on a computer!" no one gives a shit. "we recorded our album with real instruments with real life acoustics in <insert fancy studio>" people will be impressed, they'll pay up, there's hype, there might be articles and headlines about it that will freely advertise the product.
When AI is a norm you can advertise human-made projects completely differently than now. It will always be considered more exquisite and such products will go up in price because it will be more of a rarity.
It's the same complaints and arguments since the invention of the Gutenberg press in the 15th century, the weaving machines in the 18th, or the micro chip in the early 20th.
I'm sure there was an uproar amongst slavers when slavery got abolished too

Except it does. I mean obviously it can't create new things out of thin air, but I have had it happen quite a few times where it "lied" straight to my face, citing paragraphs or sources that simply did not exist. I do realize that is not completely what you meant, but still it is a probability based language model so it will give you diverging answers even on non-fiction, it will just be wrong
“The only way to deal with an unfree world is to become so absolutely free that your very existence is an act of rebellion.”
- Albert Camus
I get ya, yea I didn't mean it that way, I meant it is easier to detect if AI wrote it (using OTHER AI) when it sticks to the knowledge it does have on a thing real thing, if that thing isn't a super broad subject and is people ask it in lazy formed questions for the info that encourages it to give it nearly verbatim 'as it knows it'.
But I think we both meant the same thing
I see it as its still in its baby steps, and can get delusional in what it's talking about. So I don't use it for asking any questions or finding information for about real things. Only two things I use it for is helping create fictional stuff in my tabletop, and cleaning up or helping with coding snippets.

AI porn is where its at..when they get all that together with one of those fleshlites ..game over..earths ppuplation will be cut in half and the world will be beating its pecker like nobodys business
Yeah AI porn will save the world, if it can half the population
where it would serve a good purpose they live like its year 1, so they will never have a clue about what "ai" even is.
i'm also not sure how much it would improve porn really. i mean if you have a weird fetish and you can't find material for that, it's maybe good? i think VR probably will (or even had) a bigger impact. a combination of ai and VR would be the crème de la crème i guess (pun intended).
I guess the best AI porn will likely be illegal, as it'll involve public figures doing hardcore stuff not the deepfake things we already have, as those are just face replacements, but accurately following user input. And yeah, this combined with VR and I'll never get out the house again

AI porn is only a piece of the puzzle. AI girlfriends are already a thing and it's only just beginning.
I guess that a sizeable proportion of men will become disillusioned with the messed up dating app market and opt for a virtual girlfriend instead.
Women somehow brought it on themselves since so many won't compromise on factors such as height, income and education status of prospective long term mates. Young women are the majority of college graduates now and outearn their male peers in some countries already so it is only going to get worse.
The thirsty, lonely men will be enticed to pay for endless AI girlfriend subscription services instead.
When robotics eventually catches up and the LLMs get functional bodies it is going to reach yet another level.
We already know Japan will be first. Rich people will have AI harems.
AI girlfriend might be quite realistic when i think of it, i mean you can probably talk to her via messenger, right? So sporadically the AI gf sends you messages like "don't forget to buy toilet paper!", then it will be very similar to the bigger part of many modern relationships hehe..
maybe have it post AI selfies on Facebook and Instagram too.. your friends will be like "shit man, i'm so sorry to see your gf has 6 fingers on one hand and 4 on the other, that must suck.. she does look nice otherwise though!"
My first test with Gausian Splatting - images to 3D model.
The quality can be improved a lot i bet, i just quickly grabbed a short video with my iphone, converted it to 50 images, trained the model. next time i'll use my DSLR camera and more images.. not too bad for 10-15 mins of work, this is a game changer for 3D
I'm a total noob when it comes to all of this, does it actually create a model with vertices in what not - which you could easily use in Blender or whatnot, or is this more of an "illusion" of a 3D model ? It kind of looks like it !
But damn, it is very impressive. Thanks for sharing your findings

it's not a conventional model no, but it can still be lit differently etc from within a 3D environment.
They've already made extensions for Unity and Unreal engine to import these types of models and you can import them into Blender too. Pretty crazy how good it looks and how much detail it grabs it really looks like a 1:1 copy of the photos.
if lit evenly during capure (no shadows in the pictures) I imagine custom lighting in 3D is not an issue.
I dabbled in 3D for a while and doing a model that detailed would take a really long forever. This thing is waaaaaay too good at saving so much time to be put aside.
There several useful applications here, either serving as a template for properly modelling an object, or being used as a static background for video or game.
