After only 15 mins you are starting to crawl through the same 'ol stricken-by-bad-events-facility. And you'll be doing this - apparently - until the end of the game...
Kaldaien: "Game has a built-in web browser, which might explain why disabling network connections improves performance."
lol wtf?
edit: the game's rating is up to 36% already when it was 20% this morning wouldnt be surprised if it gets to positive by tomorrow. People want to suffer...
Haha yes indeed, I can confirm it runs better when you block it from accessing internet.
But it still stutters at times(DX12) and runs like shit, but it's an improvement...if you want to call it that.
The poor performance is masking the issue of what looks like an extremely bad combat system. If you didn't see ManMountains post you should check out the combat at 14:56 onward.

Have fun starting over and over again anytime you enter combat with more than 1x monster

Hey dont be so hard the little console eunuchs, they need time to aim their lil vibratin thumbstick.
i expected it to be melee based, previews said so too, but combat seems downright bad, level design seems boring and uninspiring, doesn't seem to be as atmospheric as i had hoped either.
and yeah refunding is pretty easy, and i didn't even buy it on steam, but for PS5 (i did predict that to be the better choice )
Meleeing alien body horror rapist creatures seems to be the last thing one would want to do
Ok, fine.. i can deal with that, but holding a button down for dodging and just waiting for animations to finish so you can attack, basically a QTE garbage mini game every time you encounter an enemy.. something must have gone terribly terribly wrong for them to implement this. Like they ran out of time and this was the way they patched everything together.
If we can look past the stuttering it's a pretty good game. It feels very much like Dead Space and has Dead Space clunkiness it also has a lot inspiration from Resident Evil. It's definitely overpriced, should have been 30$ maybe 40$.
I did not watch or read much about this game before release and I'm having fun. Probably overhyped.
Callisto Protocol, is artistically beautiful. The audio stage and production is amazing. You can absolutely feel the love and passion poured into this project them the devs, Striking Distance Studios.
The issues are with the gameplay, mostly the close combat loop. I know they have said they wanted to make the combat feel
threatening and dangerous. I get that. The issues are how jank and terrible it is.
This is not a case of "git good". Basically the combat in this game goes like this - you sight enemy, enemy sights you. Soft lockon begins. Hold direction (any direction) to commence dodging minigame. Enemy swings, You dodge, You then hold alternate direction, Enemy swings and on it goes till the enemy has an opening and you get to attack them.
Sound good?. Its not. Its inconsistent as all hell as the direction held needs to be absolute and it doesnt even have to relate to the enemy movement (for example they do a left hook you dodge right, as you would in real life boxing). Just hold a direction as long as its ABSOLUTE because if it isn't, you will get punished.
Sometimes you'll even get punished when pushing absolute directions. Its cool like that and that isn't even the games biggest combat flaw.
The flaw comes into animation lengths, enemy density in areas and the overall HP of enemies.
You see kind reader when you dodge you are locked into an animation with no cancel ability very much like commitment based attack systems in games like Darksouls. When you are 1v1 in Callisto Protocol, you deal with the jank.
When you are being dogpiled by enemies this becomes a huge issue. You will dodge one enemy into another enemy to be grabbed and damaged this will happen repeatedly. God forbid there is a ranged enemy vomiting from a far and hit stunning you whilst oldmate bashes your skull in.
You can't just run from engagements. You are soft locked into combat. If more enemies are around, You are done.
Its frustrating. Its terrible and the HP of the enemies is insane.
People liken this to Deadspace. It isn't anything like it and those saying that need their heads examined. In that game the combat never felt fruitless. In Callisto Protocol you get guns, and they do nothing. They can "Parry" of sorts but when you are being dogpiled nothing helps.
Enemy placement is another crap thing for example an enemy I've nicknamed head handbag is hidden out of sight around corners. This thing is hit scan, it will get you and you will take damage and play the QTE game. This will happen to you repeatedly.
The game is entirely not fun to play. Its a grind, a slog.
How can this game be fixed/saved. The combat needs a rework and enemy HP numbers adjusted. The game needs a directional melee risk vs reward parry system. The player character isnt new to violence allow us to facilitate this and maybe have fun. It can even be an unlocked ability. Instead of hold any direction to dodge, You hold the direction of attack and also hit attack. Counter, Stun. Fun. Depth.
The game also needs to give the player some kind of crowd control as it stands you are going to get ganked by crowds especially on harder difficulties. People would then say use the kinesis style module to throw enemies around - This is all well and good but the usefulness of this depends on how you upgrade your character in the starting chapters. GG if you put money into your guns and baton first.
Overall im not going to refund this game. I want it to succeed, be patched and tweaked. Its absolutely anti consumer that it cost me $130 dollars Australian.
Devs make it count. I can see your vision. I don't hate this game, Make us love it.
Thanks for reading.
Such a shame.

Yes now it runs really really good! Feel sorry for the developer who pushed the wrong files.. AS a software developer (not game developer) I can relate.
Striking Distance Studios has just released the first PC patch for The Callisto Protocol. This first patch completely resolves the game’s shader compilation stutters.
The game will start compiling its shaders as soon as you launch it. Although there isn’t any on-screen indicator, all of its movies will feel choppy until it finishes the procedure.
Now while this is great news, this patch does not resolve the traversal stutters or the stutters you can get while turning around corners.
Just what the hell is wrong with these retarded developers? Are they really that terrified if someone posts a video of the protagonist tea-bagging a dead monster or beating the shit out of some female character in youtube? Or showing the game's stupid glitches?
Such faggotry
