Do you guys use any special MadVR settings, using it with MPC-HC? I got some settings from a forum, it does actually upscale 1080p content to 4K neatly, but it's raping my GPU. It does look good, but not that good. Can someone recommend me some non GPU rapey settings? I don't need the best of the best vid quality, as long as it's sharp enough.

Apparently, it's harder to export settings. Hopefully, this should cover it.

Back up HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\madshi\madVR and settings.bin in the madVR folder.

https://www.icloud.com/iclouddrive/09v5XZSlKlcNEuO3CR5jNzvfw#madVR

I try to use groups to alter settings depending on played content (4K, 4K60, etc.). Hopefully this will give you ideas Smile

MadVR Benchmark lol

Quote:

I have a proposal, I wonder if it gives reproducible results? There is a lot of noise in the results on my system so I think we need to run it at least three times and average the results, 10 or more would be even better.

Set your display refresh rate to 23 Hz
Reset your madVR settings and use this settings.bin. Do not change any settings.
Use this video
Set LAV to DXVA2 Native for H.264, or software decoding if you cannot get DXVA2 native to work
View the video at 1920x1080, either fullscreen or windowed depending on your native resolution
On startup pause and seek to the start of the video
Use ctrl-R to reset the stats
Unpause
When it ends use ctrl-j to view the number of frame dropped
Repeat as many times as you can and average the results

Make sure your player does nothing when the video ends, just leaves the last frame up paused. I suggest MPC-HC or Zoom Player.

A check to make sure it is working correctly is that the upload queue is at least 1-8 for the entire playback. Watching with the OSD open seems to give the same results. Make sure you do not have any hidden file/folder options enabled as the settings file cannot change those.

My 2080 Ti drops an average of 4584 frames with a standard deviation of 265 (5.8%) over 10 repeats.

Can I limit madvr rendering to 48 hz on a freesync monitor?
If a movie is 24, then freesync monitor capped at 48hz, should perform better than 60 hz right ?

hmmm, it should be possible, yes.
But be shure to TEST it beforehand in NVPanel.. If that resolution and HZ works..

Then just add your own profile for it here:

heres an Detailed INFO on those Settings:
Quote:

display modes [None]
Allows setting refresh rate and resolution automatically depending on the source video.
list all display modes madVR may switch to: An example for a modern 4K display: 2160p23, 2160p24, 2160p25, 2160p29, 2160p30, 2160p50, 2160p59, 2160p60
treat 25p movies as 24p (requires Reclock or VideoClock): [Disabled] Uses 24 Hz modes to display 25 fps content, it requires Reclock or VideoClock to slow down the audio to match.
hack Direct3D to make 24.000Hz and 60.000Hz work: [Disabled] A hack to Direct3D that enables true 24 and 60 Hz display modes in Windows 8.1 or 10 which are usually locked to 23.976 Hz and 59.940 Hz. May cause presentation queues to not fill.

custom modes
A second tab in display modes. Allows configuring custom refresh rates and can assist in optimizing them for the purpose of avoiding dropped or repeated frames without frame blending (smooth motion) or resampling the audio (ReClock, VideoClock). Only custom timings can be optimized but simply editing a mode and applying the "EDID / CTA" timing parameters creates a custom mode, and is the recommended way to start optimizing a refresh rate. New timing parameters must be tested before they can be applied. Delete replaces the add button when selecting a custom mode. It uses each of GPU vendor's private APIs to add these modes and does not work with EDID override methods like CRU; supports AMD, Intel, and Nvidia GPUs. With Nvidia these custom modes can only be set to 8-bit.

After a loooong time, there has been some little news.

ill just quote the Post from VBB:
Quote:

madshi recently replied to a post of mine over on AVS:

VBB:

"Mathias, I wish you all the success in the world with Envy, but please don't forget where this all started:

https://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=146228

60,000 posts and 35 million views!

While the guys over there might not be able or willing to buy an Envy, a lot of us long-time users sure as hell are willing to pay you for the software and your continued support."

madshi:

"Yes, I do feel bad for not having posted on doom9 for a very long time. At the moment all my concentration is on making Envy the best product we can. And after that's done, Ric and I will brainstorm on how to best proceeed with the madVR HTPC software. You can be rest assured that I have no plans to stop developing it. For example, for some algos I need the feedback of as many users as possible to make the algos look as good as possible. However, we've not fully decided yet what our "business plan" with the madVR HTPC software is going to be. It's a very difficult topic, and please let's not discuss is now. I wouldn't be able to participate in such a discussion now, anyway."

So, its not dead. Mr. Green

Not shure about teh ""business plan" with the madVR HTPC software" but hey, even i would pay for an HQ Renderer like MadVR if it isnt to expensive..
