So far my biggest criticism is how shit the NPC questlines are in the context of the open world. They were never good, but they were manageable in the previous games. Oh, you explored a gigantic area and killed a boss before talking to an NPC? Questline buggered. Didn't talk to the NPC after you killed a boss? Questline fucked. I was intending to go for a blind playthrough thinking i'll play the game 2 or 3 times anyways but i dont know if ill be playing this one again given how gigantic it is.

Also, some of the bosses are a bit too much, they feel like a checkpoint for if you have enough vigor stat. It's understandable that Fromsoft needs to push the envelope since we've played these games for so many years but some of them it's like i feel like i got lucky or tanked the right hits.

you shouldnt care about quests in souls games, its not quest like in traditional sense in other rpgs, its just an experience of story, might go that way, might go another, you might not see particular npc at all. its not that important really. obviously they could make it more simpler, with some quest log or thatnot, but they make it this way for years now so its clearly what they wanted to be. i dont really care, if my story goes the way some "questline" will be finished then fine, if not then not, i will check it on yt after beating the game or not , thats the obscure beauty of it, someone might find something different, its not like go there, kill/collect 10 of that and return to npc X.

Over 90 hrs of playtime in a single week, which I didnt do since I was in school, and thats quite a while ago Very Happy
It is an amazing game to say the least and it surpassed my expectations, after this creative open world it will be very hard to go back to any Ubishit or Derpesda tripe.

Well after i died 5 times i'll admit i used the wolfs spirits on the second phase. Laughing
But usually my first plays i always use cheese tactics to win so i won't take too many time. Then have no help no cheese run. Fight was awesome though.

Anyone playing arcane build ? If a blood uchigatana has B in dex and D in arcane, is it worth leveling arcane ? Does it increase the bleed damage ? Anyone knows ?

Edit: It appears it affects the blood build up. Ok, ditching the noob quality claymore that's slow and does no damage - for this one Very Happy

Played for a few hours yesterday, was able to kill the boss after a few tries, in one of the first dungeons you encounter, which was encouraging Very Happy

Game feels a bit Gothic-y, somehow.

Think I'm gonna restart as astrologer though, magic seems seriously overpowered (or at least during the first hours).

If this game felt Gothic'y it'd be an 11/10. The RPG'ness, NPC interactions, quest types, towns, settlements and so on aren't there though.

I got used to playing with the gamepad. When trying the mouse again though, you can just feel the stutter. A gamepad *almost* negates it

Yes, the Gothic feeling is just the initial impression. If it had its towns, NPCs and quests it'd be the best game ever Very Happy

Playing with gamepad too. As usual for me, the biggest enemy is the camera, especially with bosses jumping around over the place Smile

It's on the rotten swamp area and he's tied to an npc quest that you can't miss (well... maybe if you're a gamejourno). Anyway, just ragequit out of madpumpkinough & madpumpkinstein.

And that one is on a micro arena, which makes it even more unfair Rage

Anyone playing this on the ISODemo and gotten to where the white masked lady? (Varres) gives you 5 bloody fingers and tells you to invade other players. This obviously is not possible since no multiplayer, so anyway to meet the requirements or is this quest blocked since we can't invade other players?

Negative. It's much more worthwhile a playthrough to interact with an NPC rather than coming across their dead body randomly. Laughing

God, the Rennala fight is so annoying. I deal massive damage and she's a glass cannon, but she's constantly spamming magic projectiles and all of them deal serious damage.

The most annoying part is having to run all the way back to the lift and go up to fight her again. Such a waste of time.

Edit: And of course after venting I beat her in 2 minutes, getting hit only once and before she can even summon anything. Laughing

What? Quest design in souls has always been terrible, especially in elden ring. It's like it follows a linear path, yet the game advertise freedom. "ohh so you went to this place instead of this place and killed a key boss before quest told you to, in this super open and free world? well sucks to be you, you now skipped a step or two and maybe the side quest story doesnt make much sense anymore"

love seeing Horizon quest designe salty that the game with barely any quest design did better scores than his game

Especialyl given the majority of quests in Horizon 1 (and even 2 from what i saw) isnt really some "world-class of quest design" .... its the standard carrot and stick fare thats been done for decade ad nauseum

Elden Ring/Dark Souls games could be a case study for why all their pompous titles and positions are bullshit that have no tangible influence in delivering a memorable gameplay experience people will come back to, despite all its obvious flaws. Smile

Very good story telling and very good graphics can somewhat compensate for simplistic gameplay -> Witcher 3
Very good gameplay and level design can somewhat compensate for story telling or good graphics -> Elden Ring
Depending on how much you focus on a single aspect, the game could be a total failure for you.

And the story telling in Elden Ring isn't even shit. They just chose a different form to talk to the player. Less explainy explainy, but more experiency experiency. The world design tells a story. The enemies tell a story. Your gear tells a story.

Just a shame that the games that doesn't decide to tell you the story is weird as fuck. You'd have to be as much of a nut as miyazaki to understand his finger fetish and weird ass bosses and dialogues. I don't hate any by any means, i for one would welcome more clear cut story telling though
