This game has some of the most unimaginative and artificial boss battles in the entire series. They just combined full tracking with evade for most fights and that's it. This also works wonder with the gambling system that is the input in this game.
lol someone's mad they're dodging too early.
dude i get livid about this shit
every damn enemy holds their attack in an unnatural fashion and i nearly always dodge too early like a scrub. From soft either knew it was too predictable, or increased the time of attacks to give people more of a chance of dodging.. and it throws me off hard.
And then suddenly they don't hold it at all and first your face in a flash

it's because they design the game to fuck over people who got good at the previous games
that's why bloodborne enemies were aggressive, punished the living shit out of any side roll etc, you couldn't block so you were forced to approach instead of run
elden ring boss fights are great and once you get used to delaying your timings you'll have a much easier time

yeah i'm having a blast, it's just a me issue i welcome it being less predictable.. just i'm fucking bad at it
i seem to recall the original demon's souls was basically beatable by rolling through everything with its very predictable timing. from what i've heard (and played thus far) Elden ring is a bit of improvement over the DS formula, having other viable strategies/playstyles that aren't just rolling like an idiot. i'm still just too scared to try anything except jump attack and rolling though
first thing i noticed. press the button, release, wait, roll. not great
i'd say the only thing that seems responsive is the stick itself, everything else has lag.. in a game with high difficulty that should be a priority to get right.
and sure, most people might not notice 100 or even 200 ms lag, they wiill just think it's on their end.. i do notice this easily because i make music and it's an issue we often can have, i can notice as little as 50ms from pressing the key or pad to hearing the sound.
Sounds like my experience with Bloodborne. Assumed it's because of the terrible framerate, cause DS games on PC all felt better.
Maybe you guys are now so used to higher refresh rates that 60 fps feels like shit? Or did you unlock framerate and still experience this "input delay"? Cause last year I played Nioh 2 @120 fps and then went back to Dark Souls 3@60fps straight after, and yea.. it didn't feel as good as the first time I played it.
I find the delay thing pretty terrible. Its just makes the game more artificial than it has to be. But you're right about it being there for a reaoson or people wouldnt have a challenge.. Sadly as i said it's artificial as fuck.
Isn't that "delay" like the main thing about all Dark Souls games? I installed DS1 just to compare and seems the same to me. And thinking about it, it's not really lag or delay but the way it's supposed to be. Rolling doesn't cancel the combat animations. So you have to learn every weapon's specific animations and enemy attacks to time properly when you can use hard or fast hits. It's frustrating but if rolling canceled animations it would be Devil May Cry and not a "Dark Souls" game.
Is this game easier than earlier fromsoft games? Only played Ds1 and sekiro, gave up both after a couple of hours( ds1 mainly because of the horrible m/kb controls).
Sekiro i gave up in frustration after getting killed 20 times by the 1'st boss.
Lvl 30 and having alot of fun here. Maybe because of the open world and lvl'ing up before facing bosses?

Pretty sure it is yes. You get spoiled from playing other games which obviously are more responsive (as in you can press a button and you get an instant response).
I guess it depends on what you prefer, some people obviously prefers this type of combat, otherwise the series would not be popular. And from what i remember (DS1) i really liked its combat when i got into it...

honestly, i think all souls games are pretty smooth sailing once you know the jist of the mechanics and how to navigate the world/upgrade etc. they are not hard games but they don't hand hold in the slightest and that's usually what makes people think they are intentionally hard
sekiro is different, sekiro was made to be brutally hard. sekiro bosses will whoop your ass to oblivion until you fully understand how the deflect system functions and then you will finally begin to progress...
Red Wolf is so fucking annoying. I can get him down to 30% HP in a few hits, dodge his red sword attacks all day, but I can never avoid his slash attacks with his head or his double magic projectile attack, because I get hit with the other before I fully recover from dodging the first.
I get hit once I'm done, I can't recover fast enough. I hate magic spam.
Edit: Killed him. Die you stupid mutt and burn in hell.
"I think Call of Duty resonates because it's believable and relatable," Sledgehammer Games cofounder Michael Condrey says.
Believable and relatable...Yep, sounds like Call of Duty

is it possible to alternate between shield/parry and dodge? it's awkward but you don't have to roll every attack, you can eat one or two with block and then roll the last attack
this advice bought to you by someone who hasn't fought jack shit
just i realized sometimes using block/jump could be faster than chain rolling

Ultimately, it's hard to recommend the quality mode owing to its uneven performance and in our opinion, it's best avoided. It's clear none of the current-gen consoles work well in targeting a fixed, high resolution: the result being a wavering 30-60fps range for all three machines, occasionally dropping into the 20s. Typically, PlayStation 5 offers a lead over Series X in quality mode, while Series S languishes behind the three with the worst frame-rate reading. A fixed 30fps cap with consistent frame-pacing would have made this mode worth a look, in fairness, but based on last-gen consoles tests, it seems that From Software's 30fps implementation is still lacklustre and frame-pacing problems remain.

But what of the 60fps dream? One of the bigger surprises of the network test was that running the PlayStation 4 Pro version of the game on PS5 yielded a far more consistent frame-rate than using the the native PS5 app - and sadly, that remains the case. 60fps remains unattainable on the actual PS5 game, which ranges from 45-60fps in its frame-rate mode, occasionally dropping still further in effects-heavy scenes. It places PlayStation owners in a difficult spot: using PS4 Pro code means that the dynamic 4K on PS5 changes to checkerboarded 1800p, while grass draw distance takes a hit. You're effectively trading performance stability against image quality and visual features.

Where does this leave Xbox Series S? Again, frame-rate mode struggles with consistency and we'd also recommend variable refresh rate support in this case. The issue is that it's less effective overall, given that the average frame-rate is significantly lower. There comes a point where VRR loses its 'cure-all' properties in mitigating less-than-ideal performance and Elden Ring on Series S dances around that line.

If the takeaway is that little has changed since the network test, it's interesting to note that there are some differences if we stack up PS5's final patch 1.02 vs the earlier beta. In quality and frame-rate modes, for example, frame-rates are actually lower than the network test, which runs 2-5fps faster in the older build. The advantage widens further in select cutscenes, showing something of a regression from the 60fps target here.
