I gave up with ray tracing, my 5950x and 3070 aren't up to it, so I just play at 5120x1440 native res with everything on high but use FSR quality as I find DLSS blurs things more. Framerate was 100-120 fps but since the last patch dropped to 70-80 fps.
Aside from the comical roof plant life, just nit-picking but there's repetition (e.g. buses always have same 'treasure', roofs with honey always same and so on).
Steam has this overall as very positive (21k positive and 5k negative). I voted negative as I am disappointed yet another game fails to live up to what was claimed and over hyped and is riddled with performance issues and bugs.
fsr smears the image infinitely more. Use some sharpness from the menu with dlss to mitigate that a bit. Fairly close to native. FSR is more shit than usual even. You look at trees with it, its almost all blended together, you dont have individual leaves or branches. Plus sharpening artifacts and aliasing on everything
They fired Chris Avellone and must have hired the most incompetent writers out there. The dialogues make no sense, they are not believable and there's no cursivity to them what so ever. I've only seen stuff so bad in poorly translated Asian games.
Works great so far (5h) - we are having a great time in coop
I read that the game has a lot of coop issues with disconnects.
Have you experienced any coop problems?
Me and a friend are planning to play coop most of the day tomorrow if it works well.
We had the first day, but after that it runs perfect. I had a strange bug where i turned invisible and could fly...which was great as i got a chance to take some seriously good looking screenshots
11h+ so far in the game, we are having a great time!
shitloads of new stuff in my pc. Cant keep track of it all.
Enjoying the game so far. I'm quite content with it's technical state. There are some animation and pathing hiccups here and there but so far feels good.
i guess that explains the overwhelming positive steam reviews, gamers happy with 1.5 version of the game even if they payed for 2.0 , people just desperate to try out their overpriced rtx gpus ....

It's basically Dying Light 1.5, but I dig it.
The writing is god awful though
once you hit the big city after villedor, it's at least Dying Light 1.8
i can't for the life of me recall if DL1 had this many animation jitters, used to be able to stand on zombies when they were down etc.. now it just kind of just bugs out (maybe with the parkour perk it wont be so weird). personally i'm surprised pathing is this good, i find it's pretty hard to get away from both zombies and bandits, although there are certain windows and raised terrain they wont seem to deal with.

even if this was a copy paste of Dying Light 1 i'd buy it, because the game was just that good honestly. DL2 took some warming up for me, but the more i play, the better it seems to get. except the writing of course, now that's a mixed bag.
i reckon a few reviewers will be scrambling to add a few points to the scoreboard after seeing steam reviews and nobody seeming to care much about the negatives
The scene continues. I cannot interact. She begins to describe how she is going to begin a bloody war against the (infinitely superior in size and strength) PK forces, based on her own personal vendetta against them. I wonder when I am going to be able to step in and put a stop to this woman's insane, suicidal plan.
Heroic, uplifting music begins playing.
I am filled with a terrible sense of dread as I realise that I am supposed to be excited. I am supposed to think that what is happening is a Good Thing.
Then she lists off her plan for dealing with the larger, better equipped force she is about to challenge.
Her plan is to commit a warcrime.
She intends to destroy the power source for the PK base, disabling their protective UV lighting and leaving them to be torn apart by horrific undead abominations in the pitch-black depths of their underground base.
although to be honest, at this point you've probably killed more than a thousand bandits anyway i hate it how games nearly always railroad you into insanity with choices, always one extreme or the other, middle grounds are too much work
edit: reminds me, during a quest:
some little girl asks me for 500 dollars to trade an obviously important item, but for some reason, i fucking short change her and give her just 10 dollars because i am a literal piece of trash, so i'm guessing thats still Aiden's better side your options are.. don't pay anything because you are so tough, and haggle the price down to an unreasonable level. not like this

i need that damn grapple, i love actually swinging on ropes in this game
I thought these were cherrypicked until I watched the videos posted afterwards... my god. It's not just the graphics either, the aesthetics are bad on every front.
Playing RDR2 again last night and tonight, an old-gen multiplatform game from 2018, and I'm still flawed by its visuals. From the lighting, to the animation, to the environments. There are so few game development companies you can put your faith into for innovation these days.
I don't think the graphics are bad per se, but some of the lighting and colorgrading is questionable. It's too colorful, too much pop for a post apocalyptic game. It's just a bit thematically inconsistent. However I do think interiors are well made.
If these are not bad graphics for 2022 or even 2019 (just compare this with Metro: Exodus), then I don't know what they are. On top of that, the performance is shit.
Yeah, I've seen now plenty of pics and videos and the visuals are very underwhelming. I even re-watched a few old DL1 gameplay clips and they all felt much kinder to my eyes, that game has aged well so far, IMO.

wait a minute , did you say rockstar and inovation in same post :-O
pouring millions into "shrinking balls of a horse animation" isnt really inovation ... its just throwing monstrous ammount of money on visual presentation ...
Spoiler:
too bad they are still stuck in the early 00s mission design in 2018

Honestly, the ball shrinking on the horses is just a simple detail that they put into the calculations, this doesn't need any complex logic but shows that the team cares. Isn't this what we are missing?
horse.testicle.size = testicle_size_const + temperature * temperature_to_testicle_multiplicator (and most likely a clamp, so that the balls don't grow to melon size in the tropical settings or scale negatively if someone reduces the temparature via hack )
You can't complain that modern games lack detail and then complain if a company actually goes the extra mile to think of small things like this. Just look at that comparison video between L4D2 and Back 4 Blood. With the same logic applied before you could start to complain that it's not required that the zombies lean in during direction changes, or that you don't need inverse kinematic powered ragdolls...

tbh my point was specifically about Inter's post about inovation vs mine about money and visual presentation being used as a way to hide design issues and lack of innovation i ... aka that they pour millions into useless details like this yet their actual mission design is same shit it was 20 years ago ... personallyi dont give fuck about small details when the main thing goes to shit if you stray away meter from the intended script
.
as for DL2 .. too soon to say anything , only beat the prologue and feels pretty much same as first game
and in the end rdr2 is still better than all modern open world games like from ubisoft or this shit...jeez i wonder why...cenrtanly not because of the graphics

everyone wanks like its second coming of jesus ... yet i cant finish it after 2 years because the missions are just so fucking overdirected bullcrap .... but yeah good for you that you are able to enjoy it , congrats
