While the atmosphere and graphics are impeccable, the combat is... dull.
I actually pushed myself to get to the end of Act 2 to face Duriel and got my ass handed to me. Tried several times to beat that thing and lost. I can't remember dying that much so I'm not sure if they increased the difficulty or what. But I took a bunch of thawing potions with to counter the cold attacks it used against me and that didn't even help.
Yeah, it's obvious, I know(!). But that's the one thing that kept me going until the end, despite the meh story, cartoon-ish / average graphics and linear character progression.
One thing that separates D2 from D3 in my experience is the initial difficulty level. You might actually die even on your first playthrough. D3 was just insultingly easy. I don't subscribe to "game really starts at lvl99", I play through these games once on the initial difficulty level and then I'm done. I want that playthrough to be good, and that's where D2 wins hands down IMO. D3 might be good otherwise, but the complete lack of challenge just ruins it.

Console version let's you start at master which is a tiny bit more challenging but yeah pc version is locked at expert for the first playtrough which is very easy. I don't really think this is an issue for most ppl nowadays though i don't know anyone who plays these games one and done that's very unusual.
Almost in a satisfying way because of how the boss tactics changed. I remember the 15 minute boss fights.. hell some people took way way longer than that to beat Inferno Diablo.
Was sadly absolutely unbalanced. Some builds could barely do it if at all and then you had your OP meta builds like that invincible sorc build that could solo it with relative ease.
Was cool tho and the game was never the same again.

This, and the itemization was absolutely shit, it was nearly impossible to get good items to drop not to mention with right stats . I mean barbarian 2 hander could roll wizard stats, wtf? . Ofcourse you could buy items from real money auction house, which made the game p2w.
not even the best items could clear end bosses fast, it was a complete shitshow with inflated hp pools causing 20 min booring as fuck fights, but i miss the AH so much monies to be made

15 minute boss fights? IIRC after a few minutes you'd hit those retarded enrage timers.
if that was the case , then kripparian would have never beaten the game on hardcore
25 min fight
thats why i quit playing for fun and switched to full money make mode, it wasnt worth the time to kill bosses, it was absolute garbage tuning to have such insane long fight due to massive hp pools

25min? I did a raid in DAoC that took 16h... so thats nothing.
shitloads of new stuff in my pc. Cant keep track of it all.

Think they implemented that in Reaper of Souls with the torment difficulty
The fuckers dropped TCP/IP on the pretense of security issues.
No open battle.net either
Oh and no ultrawide support. they say it breaks the game where enemies you attack from too far away just stand there.
I guess they can't fix that lol

Hi! I’m the creator of Median XL, one of the “top three” mods for D2 (now maintained by community members).
There has been some misinformation about mod support in D2R, but the bottom line is that it is probably not viable, partly (but not entirely) due to the removal of TCP/IP.
Diablo 2 has a single player mode, but let’s be honest, most people want to play with others. There are three ways to do so:
TCP/IP, either locally or using Hamachi to set up a virtual LAN and play with others over the internet. This feature has been removed from the game a few days ago.
Open battle.net, where you can take your single player character and create/join lobbies outside Blizzard’s servers. According to a Blizzard rep on a beta stream, there will be no open battle.net in the game.
Private servers. This is what people point to as the saviour of modding. After all, Median XL uses a private server, as does PD2 and PoD. The problem with private servers is that they violate the Battle.net Terms of Service.
Nowdays, D2 mods can get away with openly promoting their private servers because the game is abandonware and Blizzard has nothing to gain by shutting them down, but this was not always the case.
Back in the days, private servers were a closely guarded secret due to the potential legal consequences.
Keep in mind that private servers can be used to play pirated copies of the game online, and Blizzard already served the hackers who cracked the D2R alpha a cease and desist letter. They have every reason to go after people who develop or run a private server for D2R.
There seems to be this widespread idea that Median XL, PD2 and PoD will be immune to the removal of TCP/IP because they have a private server and only the less popular mods will suffer.
However, not only are none of them compatible with D2R out of the box, but there will be no private servers.
That leaves single player, and frankly not many people would be interested in a single player mod.
It is all a bit unfortunate after Blizzard hyped up the new modding possibilities in a series of Twitter posts. It is true, you can do some cool things with the game… but there is no reason to do so beyond low effort single player cheats. Alas.
I'm out. fuck blizzard
Likot Mosuskekim, Woodcutter cancels Sleep: Interrupted by Elephant.
its gonna be a shitshow , a double overpriced unoptimized mess , but at least we trew so much shit at em for wc3 that at least they cant afford the pr hit to take down the old bnet which im sure they had in mind
ill buy it at 20 usd and only if it gets multiplayer mod support later in , aka tcip or whatever they come up with
I still have the cracld Alpha zipped up on my drive, because that still had widescreen and tcp/ip. I'm sure some clever guys can come up with ways to inject all the missing content into the alpha and make things work together.
