I literally have 200 fps at 1440p
Imagine saying this is a 2D game
D2R employs a full physical based 3d renderer with high quality screen space reflections

You can pretty much get all of these in a mix of 2D landscapes and 3D models like in Pillars of Eternity 2.

I get the feeling they are doing some stupid shit like software ray tracing in the background that would also explain the DX12 exclusivity.
It's really not a good idea and wastes performance on older cards for basically nothing.

I probably have a better PC than you boyo and the game performs poorly in certain areas for me. Also, this is a 2D game.
Given your knowledge in technical matters, I have a feeling you left the resolution scaling on the default value which is below 100. |
But it’s not a 2d game? It’s fully 3d with pbr, remade models, modern lighting and everything. The game underneath it is 2d yes, but that’s irrelevant.
Anyway, can’t comment on pc performance since i got this on my ps5, perfectly smooth and plays great on controller, just wish res was a bit higher, maybe in the final game, if not then too bad, still great overall.

I didn't know is fully 3D and I don't see a reason why they made it this way. It's not like you can play around with the camera or anything.

the reason? it's cheaper and takes less texture memory. it would be strange for them to go back to a 2D pre-rendered workflow when they have so many existing teams with expertise in realtime 3D.
as for DirectX12 .. well that's a fairly typical microsoft move. i think DX12 was an improvement over 11, just that it wasn't worth ditching the OS to get there.

I get the price/being easier to achieve argument and I was thinking about it (though it doesn't justify the dx12 requirement). But aren't 3D textures more demanding than sprites in most scenarios because there's a lot more information to render?

the games reliance on DX12 is probably just because they can't be bothered supporting 11. i doubt this game is pushing any real boundaries, but.. DX12 is mostly about improving performance and hardware level integration. obviously with varying results
3D acceleration naturally takes care of most complexity, with 2D acceleration largely neglected today .. and there is no real way to optimize the real cost, which is particularly nasty at high definition: the sheer size of 2D animation sheets. It's easier to move an arm programmatically, rather than displaying an entirely new image for every frame. It's theoretically more expensive computationally (which is why we have 3d cards), but being able to change the model in real-time has other benefits, like reacting to lighting and special effects in ways a static image could not.
in modern 3d, you mutate each vertex of a model using the vertex shader, as opposed to having to load another whole image from texture memory, and from there you have four or so textures react realistically no matter what environment or situation you throw at them (fragment shader, i guess).
3d animations are probably a few dozen xyz vertex group changes (couple hundred kilobytes), versus a 2d sheet with one or two million pixels (hundreds of megabytes). If the remaster includes your character wearing different equipment, you can multiply a hundred megabytes by a thousand etc.
as for the production pipeline of 2d vs 3d, i think it's just fallen out of favor (more so with AAA) and they really wanted to bring something to the remaster that they could talk about instead of just some upscaled sprites.

ahh, ok. I saw the part about not patching and remembered seeing that on there as I was trying to figure out why I couldn't play D2R yesterday because I had issues connecting to B.net when trying to launch D2R. I then found out early access ended. For some reason I thought we had continual access into the end of open access weekend.

Pros: It's Diablo II
Cons: it's 21 year old Diablo II with all its faults and archaisms...

I gave the beta a whirl and thought it was pretty good. There's some rubberbanding and lag here and there, so hopefully the release version includes a proper singleplayer mode, which also remembers your progress and doesn't reset maps. I hate that. I think the animations and graphics are good for what it is and I especially enjoy that they now have all gear affecting the look of your character, instead of just three(?) different looks based on your main piece of armor. That said, they're very loyal to the original game, for better or worse, and I think it could've used some quality-of-life upgrades.

Yeah lol i totally reinstalled D3 again after playing for a bit this just so fucking tedious. POE does it way better nowadays if only the game wasn't such a excel spreadsheet simulator if you actually try to dive into it and that's really not my thing.

You don't have to play PoE at maximum efficiency. I often played it my own way and I did alright during those seasons. I think the bigger problem is the piling amount of stuff that's not really so relevant/useful anymore (or never was) which stems from their approach to free to play. And this is a problem that will most likely carry over to PoE2 since they want this whole shared experience.
I think Last Epoch is going to most balanced Hack & Slash to come. The guys working on it clearly know what they are doing. The gameplay flows well. The itemization is good and there is great build variety. If they can pull off a multiplayer experience without problems and improve the graphics (and physics), they are golden.

I went to Maggot Lair and it definitely run better. I had a few issues on the bottom floor, but they could have been caused by lag.

I pretend that I don't see them. Just like I will pretend that I won't see the BUY button for the game.
But (!), on the other hand:
The atmosphere is this game is absolutely phenomenal!
