You may, but every time I have a shit, Windows 10 just makes it push out more, all shittery and skittery, like last summers kebab rotting in the sun, and Satya Nadella wiping it all from his face, while saying 'SUDO' man, just 'SUDO'.

Yeah, we live in troubled times as regards the OS, very troubling indeed.
I'm taking up the 'challenge' of using the RS Pi for a month, obviously no gaming, lol, but so far, I'm flying , and hugely enjoying it, but early days lol. Even got back to dabbling in a little Python stuff, after such a long time, so we will see buddy

Simplix's opinion about MSFT lately screwing stuff up with Windows 7 updates:
If I have to be nice, people over at Microsoft are lazy, ass-handed idiots, who are unable to perform even simple tests on their updates. It seems that the testing department either was entirely laid off or hired incompetent people. The August update had a serious UEFI loading issue where the update was completely bricking live systems. Instead of properly fixing the issue, the September update has another problem, which leads to the previous one repeating itself, as the update only applies after reboot, which is exactly what was bricking live systems. On top of that, they didn't properly test KB4516655, which was supposed to replace KB4490628, but without it there will be problems when installing new updates.
The updatepack fixes all of that, but with each passing month updates are becoming worse and worse, and this only goes for update installation, it's frightening to think how the updates are actually coded, which I cannot check and fix. |
https://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/simplix-pack-to-update-live-win7-system-integrate-hotfixes-into-win7-distribution.45005/page-136
If i had read Simplix´s quote before, i hadnt even try to install the September Update.. But, i just couldnt whait... silly me..
I did update my System an hour ago, after installing the updates the system will reboot and apply the Updates.
After reboot the Updates are configured and return: Error configuring updates, rolling back.
The next reboot ends in an lost MBR/MFT and no Windows is found...
I am freaking lucky to be not trusting microsoft and so i make Full system Backups before UPDATING Windows.. So for me it was a matter of 2 klicks and i got my Windows back.. But think of teh People not making Backups.. They are SCREWED!!!!
So, just a Friendly WARNING from me... BACKUP before installing the SEPTEMBER UPDATE....
Best Regards..

Microsoft to make Windows 7 Extended Security Updates available to all business users
In a strategy shift, Microsoft will make Extended Security Updates for Windows 7 available to smaller business customers, too, starting on December 1.
Microsoft is making Windows 7 Extended Security Updates (ESUs) available to more customers. Instead of making them available to larger companies with volume licensing agreements only, Microsoft is going to make ESUs available to businesses of any size, officials announced on October 1.
Beginning December 1, 2019, small-and-midsize businesses (SMBs) also will be able to purchase ESUs if they are not going to be ready to get off Windows 7 as of January 14, 2020, which is the date Microsoft will end free support (and security updates) for the product. SMBs will be able to get the ESUs for up to three years by purchasing them from qualified Cloud Solution Provider partners, officials said.
Also: Windows 7 end of life: Months from patch cut-off, millions still haven't upgraded
Before today, Windows 7 ESUs were only going to be available to Windows 7 Professional and Windows 7 Enterprise customers with volume licensing arrangements.
Last fall, Microsoft officials said they would provide Windows 7 Extended Security Updates for three years, meaning through January 2023. These will be security patches/fixes like the ones Microsoft is currently providing for free for Windows 7 users, as Windows 7 is still being supported by Microsoft through January 14, 2020.
Windows 7 ESU pricing won't be cheap, especially for customers wanting to apply them to multiple PCs. They are more expensive for customers using the Pro version of Windows than the Enterprise one. The price of the ESUs goes from $25 per device for Windows Enterprise users in year one, to $100 per device for year three. For Pro users, ESU pricing goes from $50 per device in year one up to $200 per device in year three.

So I decided to have a small win7 drive for... reasons (plays modded FO3 and FONV better *cough*)
My issue is, instead of going at it through the usual format, install & dual boot 7 way I want to use an old (2017) windows backup image, that already has some drivers and tweaks neatly applied.
The problem is, I can't seem to be able to recover it to another disk other than the original (which is ~200km from here and in use) . Closest I got was mounting the VHD, using acronis disk director to copy that partiotin to the disk I want it on but then it always gets stuck on that boot infinite loop.
Any suggestions mens? Or should I just give up and install 7 on that drive from scratch?

Can't you reinstall the bootloader using rescue shell from the installation DVD? Fixboot, fixmbr, easybcd something?
Also, if the original install was legacy IDE and the new one is AHCI, you have to hack it some more.

Should have used some sort of third party SW for the image back then, I know (now)

Windows 7 gets one more..

The said update caused an issue with the background wallpaper. Specifically, some people reported that after installing the KB4534310 update, the desktop wallpaper would display as a solid black color when configured to Stretch. All editions of Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 were affected across the board. Microsoft acknowledged that the bug was caused by the update but initially stated that the hotfix will only be provided to the organizations that had paid for the extended support of Windows 7.
Today, the firm has updated the patch notes and claimed that it is working "on a resolution and will provide an update in an upcoming release, which will be released to all customers running Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1." While the exact date for the update has not been confirmed, it is likely that Windows 7 might see the promised update on February 11 on Patch Tuesday.
In the meantime, a temporary fix for the issue has been provided on the website. If you are facing the issue, you may try changing the wallpaper configuration to another option like Fill, Fit, Tile, or Center. You can also try your luck by using a wallpaper whose dimensions match the resolution of the desktop. |
seems ironical that they have to release another "last" Update.. haha
Didnt that happen with "XP" also, back in teh Days?
PS. nope, XP got 2 Patches after end of support... because... *drummroll*.... The leaked NSA Tools..
