The console is DRAGGING DOWN oblivion, as is the standard course of events. The X360 is a static platform and each day that passes sees the PC market pulling ahead. X360 is still in transition period, and the PS3 will help move the console crowd to the next generation of hardware. But unlike the PC, the system is closed and no hardware gains can be made.
There will be console optimizations, of course, that will maximize efficiency of the hardware, but the gap will only increase substantially as time goes on. Compare the XBOX now, which is mature in terms of software development, to the PC. Besides spitting out low-resolution images, the hardware is clearly outclassed by any number of cheap video cards.
Besides, how can you play anything with a joystick except jap kicking crap?

$1300 for two 7800 sli plus a pci-e mobo, or $400 for a 360, hmm what to pick |
christ you're an idiot, the xenos and xenon combination is nothing more then a beefed up 1800 with a severely cut down Cell processor, over simplified I know but pretty accurate, both the 360 cpu and The Cell, has a very weak branch predictor, which in effect means that they'll rarely ever get to use their full potentiel.
The fact is that none of these new consoles is anyting spectaculer, yes there has been some nice videos, but half of these was fake and the other half is 3-4 years away.

I guess there'll be graphic mods and config changes anyway available for PC version so the graphics can be raised beyond a level the devs actually intended to allow... Thus PC version will always look better...

One small negative aspect taken from gamerswithjobs.com site preview (he's played oblivion on xbox360 and NOT on PC)

Sadly, the beast that has plagued gaming for so long still roams the countryside in Oblivion. More frequently than I’d like, when running through the lavishly detailed countryside, the game will halt for a second or two, indicating that it is loading more of the area before picking up again. It’s not a game-breaking problem, and for me, it was not much more than a minor annoyance. However, if you go running through the countryside for five minutes, you will see at least five “Loading Area” prompts pop up.
Where the problem is most pronounced however, is inside of cities. Upon entering a city, and any building within a city, you’ll have to wait while the game loads the area. It’s not an agonizingly long time to wait, but the load times are comparable (roughly) to those of GTA: San Andreas for the PS2, which is a bit disappointing.
|
Let's just hope that this problem doesn't exist on PC (at least if u have enough RAM, i.E
more than 1 Go)

I dont get why this is even being discussed in the first place. If any of you guys played the previous morrowind you would realise how much it was improved graphiclly, stat wise, etc, by users. The whole point of releasing this game with a complete tool editor is for us to make or change what we dont like. In the other morrowind they have made signs legible, the terraine had a huge over haul, even lighting got major improvments. On top of this when you finally get this game, after waiting 4+ years you think your really gonna notice the shadows!?
Just play the game and wait for, or create your own things.

ok so they definitley did take out all soft shadows, thats a big downgrade in gfx if you ask me. It aint the gfx that turns me away from this game tho, its the animations. Worst animations ever. You'd think they would try to improve the characters animation since the 2d sprites in Daggerfall...
jeez Skidrow you deleted my whole posts. I spent thoughtful seconds thinking those very clever posts up.

Well if Bethesda still has a deal with Macrovision it will be Safedisc 4 and it will most likely be the toughest one avaible with full SD4 API just like B&W2.
Morrowind is Safedisc 2 proteced and also contains a few cd-checks.
Behold his GLORY! Bow for the technical master!

Yeah, to be honest the whole loading everything bollocks really annoys me. Can't they make a game like Gothic 2 which only has 1 loading screen?
I hate the fact that it has to load every time you enter a building, or every minute or two as you walk through the countryside. Plus, each indoor cell might aswell be a whole new area, seeing as how there are no windows you can see out of and any weather effects instantly cease when you enter a building. Immersion breaker in my opinion.
I wouldn't mind so much if they had all the indoor areas actually loaded up and present in the outdoor areas, it can't be that hard.

Oblivion Hands-On Part II: When Horses Attack!
By Elias Dounis on February 25th, 2006
The most impressive characteristic of Oblivion is the sheer size of the game’s world. It is by far the largest in-game world you’re bound to have ever been seen or experienced in a videogame. I can just imagine players getting completely engulfed within the vastness of the game because of this characteristic. Hell, words like massive and gigantic don’t even seem like they fit the bill. The world is absolutely ****ing gargantuan. If going from one town to another on foot, you could literally take an hour or more to get from point to point, let alone a number of hours to reach the opposite end of the map.
While I didn’t personally take the PC version of the game for a spin, from what I saw of other players testing it out, it looked significantly cleaner, smoother and more vibrant than the Xbox 360 version. While it seemed that the 360 version was plagued by some aliasing issues, the PC version looked much sharper and smoother. For instance, weapons that sheen in the 360 version have this fuzzy glow around them while the in the PC version the weapons look more pleasing to the eye, in my opinion.

Just to clear this up, in the 3-4 interviews that have been posted, pete hines repedatly says they took out the old implementation of soft shadows because it wouldn't run on normal people's hardware.
They put a new - less expensive - system in. There ARE soft shadows in the game, everything looks the same in all the media released, except! for the first scene of the e3 demo (when they are in the jail), that is the _only_ peice of media that will look different in the game.
