The last video was 2 minutes long to show the awesome fire physics in this game... that's not one of my let's play videos.

@Nodrim Many from the ones affected suspect it was "Swatting" what caused this.

@LeoNatan True FC2 was something else (read about the suspected rumour of a remaster the other day), but the effect of the fire changing as you get closer is very nice, but what kills it is the fact that they used volumetric smoke but chose to leave the fire itself very flat and also kind of like they would be locked at 30 fps, quite some missed potential right there unfortunately.

The smoke is not volumetric, it's just sprites.

Then you know something I don't I guess because it behaves like volumetric clouds in other games.

Perhaps the term means different things to each of us. To me "volumetric" means in 3D space, rather than several sprites. When you rotate the camera, a "volumetric" effect is one that looks correct under all angles. Here, it's just sprites rotating in 3D space. Hardly "volumetric". A volumetric effect can be achieved by many ways, including small sprites, but this is not it. Most recently, games have used GPU particles to simulate smoke, and that effect looks much, much better. Other approaches include using multiple small sprites as "pixels", rather than images.

The latter is how Batman, for example, implements its DerpX smoke:

Notice, however, that the result is still far superior to the smoke in this game.

The world is very nicely done and the graphics are top notch. It also runs reasonably well.

I also like, that they got rid of "side missions" and made everything not main story related localized events.

Wait. Our hero has no access to any one handed swords.

One handed swords were the most common weapons after spears during the migration era. Vikings used swords for warfare unless they couldn't afford it and had to go with a wood cutting tool.

This is bullshit. 0/10 Laughing

Same thing will all the huge roman statues found across Britain.

So instead of potentially interesting side stories, what content did they add to replace it?

Ohh, so instead of reading up a quest you just find the next part on the map? Its a step back or 10 from the way they did things in odyssey, thats for sure.

Check in the Let's play section. I started 2 separate playlists, one for the main story and one for the side stories.

Here an example:

CAREFUL CONTAINS A VIDEO OF A WORLD EVENT OF THE GAME, DO NOT OPEN IF EASILY TRIGGERED BY A SHORT CLIP OF THE GAME TO SHOW WHAT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT!
