Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) - 5/10

Some ok action, a likable cast, and a few funny moments.

But the overall amount of jokes that didn't connect with the audience (or me, in any case)... ouch.

Lock, stock and two smoking barrels (1998) 9/10

Had to rewatch this classic movie and it's as good as it was back when I first saw it. I find the movie witty, funny and it also boasts a good soundtrack. Smile

I love this film. I've always loved this film, and I will always love this film. It's definitely B-movie scifi goodness with a magnificent cast, a bonkers story, and all the deliberately-hammy acting you could want Very Happy For some people it's "so bad it's good", others it's "just plain bad" but for me it will always be one of my guilty pleasure favourites ^_^

Same score from me Smile Loved it, thanks for the tip!

Robbie and McGregor were the best. MEW has so little screen time, every other character has more screen time than her. Actually, half of her character's screen time is flashbacks with a young girl actor, so... yeah.

Now, which part was the best.. it didn't have so many standout parts.
There were some cool slow motion shots of Robbie kicking butt while doing extreme gymnastics (e.g. flips) Harley Quinn style, so that, I guess, because you could see it was really her doing them instead of a stunt double (i.e. the effect of Stahelski coming on board to help with the action).

Knives Out 7.5/10

Pleasant little movie. Good acting, the house set was pretty interesting and dream-like, good characters, etc. A murder mystery is the perfect genre to "subvert expectations". Who knew... Razz

I mean, it was painfully obvious the second he started to act altruistically, so it wasn't much of a mystery and no "expectations" were "subverted", still, nice movie.

Cool, my friend said the same thing regarding McGregor and Robbie (she got on his nerves after a while though Laughing ) being the standouts although ultimately he didn't like the film and told me to stay away Laughing

Can't really compare the two though. Jojo is more whimsical and darkly comical about it (as advertised) whereas LiB plays it straight.

Although I have to say Jojo tried too hard to make the viewer "feel" whereas LiB did it effortlessly. The only scene that comes close in Jojo is thanks to brilliant acting from Sam Rockwell at the end.

The 1951 movie that inspired Carpenter to make The Thing?

I just couldn't enjoy it. It was too cheesy and cheap compared to Carpenters version. I know a lot of scifi-horror aficionados really like as a period piece but I just laughed at various points and then did a re-watch of John Carpenters The Thing.

Hm, I don't know... It's been a while since I saw La Vita e Bella (the year it won the Oscar, I think). I remember it was very good, but Benigni and his humor are too ADHD for me Very Happy
Jojo Rabbit is a bit different, in that it starts as parody (somewhat), but after a while it lets you sink in that it's in fact not, and reality starts seeping through. As if the viewer was fooled along with the kid. Until at a certain moment, the fantasy comes to an abrupt end. That was a tough scene to watch.
The child actors were very good in Jojo.

Yes that one, but I really like it. Ive been watching 30+ different 50s movies lately and this one was very well made compared to most other "horror" movies from this time.

Oh yeah, the horror and sci-fi of the 50'ies was generally extremely schlocky and cheesy (Hitchcock was an exemption). It wasn't until the 60'ies that they received the treatment they deserved.

Parasite: 9/10

I liked it a lot, the acting was top notch (Song Kang-Ho was great) and the cinematography as well, the movie was just oozing with exhilarating malice, the train-wreck was awesome to look at - even though it felt a bit too telegraphed at times, but that was part of the movie's whole point imo.

I found myself laughing and grinning the whole time, which is not very reassuring about myself Laughing
The finale was very satisfying in itself, although it felt like it could have been a little bit more.

Well, my score of 5/10 makes it barely passable. If 1 or 2 things about it annoy you more than they did for me, it drops to 3 or 4 out of 10.. It is not a good film.

Kinda wish I kept my free ticket for Sonic Very Happy but Sonic's price is cheaper, so I decided to use my ticket for the more expensive film.
