I don't think I'll ever enjoy the writing or character building of another game ever again.
Spoiler:
Got super emotional when meeting the insulindian phasmid, I had kept looking at the traps all game long too even after the first go lol, was so satisfying. Wish we had gotten some dialogue with the cryptozoologists afterwards, or if we could've gotten some confirmation on the meeting Lena supposedly had with the insulindian phasmid.
Also speaking to that lady on the ice outside the raver's tent was very strangely cathartic since she was one of the few that recognized your pain after I gave her my hat in my playthrough.
Same. I kept going there to check stuff haha. So I'm very glad that thing happened.
I need a sequel.
Hopefully it will happen sometime in the future, I was reading an interview with the creator (Robert Kurvitz) and he hints at his plans for an expansion + full sequel.
The members of the small Estonian studio are all high school dropouts who had no prior game development experience before working on Disco Elysium. Kurvitz, who is 35, said they spent most of their youth smoking cigarettes, wandering the gray Eastern European architecture, and playing Dungeons & Dragons.
"The two biggest favors anyone’s ever done me in my life are the political education from Estonian punk bands and what (lead designer and writer) Chris Avellone did with Planescape: Torment. "
In order to keep his interconnecting narrative straight, Kurvitz decided to give up all vices including drinking, smoking, and “other things that people in Eastern Europe sometimes do.” He watched his diet, exercised regularly, and monitored his anxiety levels to become “a warrior monk of video game development.”
While Kurvitz said his team has “intimate physical knowledge of mind-altering substances,” he wanted to use the game in part to warn about the dangers of alcohol abuse.

Same here.
Spoiler:
I was really happy this happened. I also went back to the traps even after completing the side quest I thought I screwed up earlier after not buying into the phasmids completely, but I guess this event happens regardless of your choices.
After all the misery and bleakness you encountered throughout the game (especially the stuff about the Void), this was a ray of hope and wonder that made my day
Btw, I stopped the experiment in the church, as I had the feeling the game was warning me things would end badly. So I eventually pulled the plug. Anyone knows what happens if you let it grow louder? Does the world break apart?
I wonder if you can do a run (after completing the game first of course) and pretend you haven't lost your mind at all The game seems to imply that you can bluff your way through some checks.

I continued and it gets louder and some shattered glass falls down and then it suddenly stops by itself.

He has pretty high regards of himself too.

RPS: That’s interesting…have you read the City and the City? Was that an inspiration?
Kurvitz: I have, I get that… It’s not an inspiration, no. Well, I’m a shockingly left-wing person, and so is China Mieville, so we have that in common, and we have a similar take on science fiction, too. But I started developing this world and these concepts when I was 15, and I published a novel set in it in 2013. Yeah, China Mieville got there with some slipstream ideas first, but I had no idea he existed!
I’ve read his stuff now, and when I read his stuff I think… This is a really bad career move right now, I understand I’m taking to a journalist, but I think… “Yeah, I’m way better than this”.
Both are good writers, but Mieville has by far the wider ranging literary output in terms of novels and stories.

[PHYSICAL INSTRUMENT] You can feel it bröther - the anodes and the cathodes coursing through you. A true modern masterpiece in the making.
[DRAMA] Egg Head wasn't lying, the Disco is the rèal deal. Show those tripeyArr Pee Gees how it's done. Own the stage! HARDCORE TO THE MAX.
[ELECTROCHEMISTRY] That sugary black rum stain on the counter makes you teary-eyed with joy. Your mesolimbic pathway is tingling.
[INLAND EMPIRE] Yeah, let's dance baby!
I took my sweet time savoring every dialogue and trying to solve every side task like a diligent cop would do (although I still had to leave some stuff behind, it's.. inevitable), and just finished it as well. What a glorious ride.
It's one of the rare cases where I don't really have anything to complain about. Perhaps the backtracking was too intense at times and there were a couple of instances where failed skill checks for mandatory story bits led to delays/temporary impasses, but nothing serious or annoying. The game does what it has to do in a masterful way, the point 'n click exploration and investigative traits always unveil new rewarding (and surprising ) pieces of the puzzle, with the writing that truly is something out of the ordinary.
Definitely one of the most unique, engaging and gripping experiences that I've had the pleasure to play, an endless matroska able to contain a giant bizarrely fucked-up universe of characters and thoughts
I'm glad that the game is doing well, these guys are extremely talented. Eastern European indie titles are a goldmine, including the utterly insane Pathologic 2 beast which was dissed because of its unforgiving nature (tamed a lot by the recent custom sliders).
Philosophy at its Best... I cant even describe how touched i am that this Game exist. Im in loss for words really...
MASTERPIECE....
edit:
a pretty good interview.

At Rezzed we sat down with Disco Elysium design and writing lead Robert Kurvitz to discuss entering the games industry as an artist, the complexities of RPG design, politics, and disco.

After all the rave reviews I decided to yarr it. I just went downstairs after gathering all my clothes. I'm already in love with the game and will definitely buy it.
Yea the game is definitely a masterpiece and most likely GOTY for me too, but I will have to wait after finishing Death Stranding to decide, Kojima insanity is exactly my kind of thing.
Either way, the writing in Disco Elysium is fucking sublime, makes even Planescape seem like it was written by some college kid now, but that game's writing hasn't aged that well imo anyway.
I understand this game shouldn´t be rated under traditional rpg standards, but I have little time lately (life sucks) and have to ask the traditional rpg standard questions before I decide to give up on some sleeping time:
How long is this game?. I read time passing is related to dialog mechanic (which I also understood is what you do must of the time and the core of the game).
How big is the map?. How many locations and how big they are?
I´m quite intrigued about this. Sounds very different from anything else and everybody is praising the narrative but I wouldn´t like to spoil the experience checking these online...
Isodemo it, play for an hour and if you like it you can decide whether you're happy with the isodemo or if you feel it's worth paying for. It's so different that it's difficult to quantify answers to your questions.

If you try to get most of the stories the game is around 30-40 hours. The map is relatively small but have many points of interest and indoor locations, the game itself makes you backtrack a lot. You can run and will run but it's not done in most player friendly way.

stuck in docks. Each time that fat supervisor tells about lost gun i am dead. Can't find card to move back from this location. Do I have to load back my game or I miss something here?
There's another room you can enter, it's under the roof from where you jump to the docks if you did that. There should be a key the leave the docks somewhere.
to be honest don't think it's visible for my character. Is it possible? Couldnt find a option to jump to the docks
Spoiler:
It's not for jumping to the docs but jumping to get a detective coat. You have to go through the kids hideout on a roof and there you will have the option to jump to get the coat. But you have to pass a test.
Still, if you're already in the docks, there has to be a key to get out (I was initially stuck here as well). Now, in my case, I entered the docks at night, so I couldn't talk to the boss who eventually gives you the access card. I found the card lying around somewhere (I think it was in the building with the locked door, the one with the phone).
You also don't need to exhaust all dialog options, if they hurt too much. I think you can minimize health loss to just 1 point. You only need to sit in the chair the first time you talk to him.
