Really think its hit a point now of being by far the best ARPG.. i got about lv50 with the new engine D2-Median XL sigma lost interest, it now pales in comparison to POE.
i did not get into last league though so hopefully this one is a bit more interesting.
We've addressed most of the core issues with melee combat in Path of Exile. You can now cancel attack animations after they deal their damage. Movement skills are now all instant, and new low-level movement skills have been added for many classes. All melee attacks can now hit multiple adjacent enemies. The animation system has been overhauled, the monster targeting rules improved, and accuracy is no longer capped at 95%. There are more changes to melee combat than are possible to list here, but these changes plus a rebalance of most melee skills create an entirely new combat experience.

With all the melee combat improvements, players can now dodge out of the way of attacks easily. We have taken advantage of this by rebalancing monster attacks that used to have poor signalling to now have a wind-up. This rebalance extends to improving monster AI and boss fights throughout the early campaign.
The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.
I'm trying to decide whether to play melee in the legion league as well. The awfully dire sythesis had one redeeming feature pour moi, it was the first time I ever went for a magic based character. I played as a sorcererss whereas in the times I've played PoE off and on since it's beta release every other character I've taken past about lvl 20 has been a melle either warrior, old bugger or more recently a dual claw wielding duelist.
For once the magic ( an essence drain occultist) build has been interesting to play. Maybe it is just me being jaded with the game enjoying fast grinds in endgame. But even a duelist dealing over 400,000 dps can't waste nearly as many characters as quickly as a witch knockin out just under 100k dps.
Of course there is more to big damage than dps & I'm not sure spell-casting across three or four screens in one hit is fair play - how does such a huge disparity in power exist. Especially since the witch is a real budget build compared to the duellist with extremely expensive claws and chestpiece.
It will be interesting to see if any of the ggg melee fixes do address the power/price disparity - somehow I doubt it, still there is something much more satisfying about getting up close and personal to a rare mob or boss before you dice 'em.
Why are the open areas so fugly in this game? Especially the forest areas...
Perhaps, instead of making add-ons and other stuff they should
1) upgrade their engine\ use a new one (I guess we'll never see this happen. There are too many things that can go wrong. Maybe POE2 will have a better one. )

These games take 10-20 years of constant balancing and content before you get something great, this game is that, it does not cater to casual derp gamer and is a great game. If you let the a few rough edges, zoom i don't understand (i generally only play melee builds so ??) ruin it for you meh.
I really like the games aesthetic, I'm fine with the world maps etc. There are some shitty low poly and just poor looking monsters though and they could easily fix it, even just replacing them with a different color better looking creature would be better. They have some really great looking creatures, why keep vipers/snakes, koalas and the tenticle things..
Ya i'll probably wait and binge again with version 4.0
Highlights some of the additions to the standard game. Essentially they bring in a completely new game (tower defence) for some end-game content for one of the leagues, that's pretty amazing really.
Also i tend to never play/hate summoner builds in ARPG's but the stuff shown in the trailer looks pretty goddamn good.
