Hmm, so I installed it and played for an hour or so. Now I understand a lot of the criticism in here.

Went from a locked 70 fps to as low as 50 when I got to the desert area. Ganna try turning off foliage shadows but cmon what the hell kind of performance drop is that??

The desert area seems very bland compared to the first. Just boring ruins in sand with copy pasted zombie traps everywhere. Well at least the 1st area was quite good with it's stalker vibe even if the writing and VA are absolutely terrible. Prolly won't bother finishing it which is sad.

I don't like the combat it could be better. For ex. if you shoot the enemy anywhere it takes 10 shots if you shoot them in the head they die instantly.

Even old games had limb dismemberment and holes would show if you shoot them in the leg.

Like a shoot in the leg would cause him to limp, shoot in the arm with the shotgun and the arm goes off, stuff like that.

Combat just feels bleak. This was always the problem with Metro imo combat hasn't evolved at all.

I dislike this too. Ammo can be scarce and sometimes I will need to use 7 rounds to kill an enemy, because the bullet accuracy is crap and wont go where I am pointing, which with a headshot from an air rifle would take one bb

After seeing gun combat in RE2 and how enemies react to bullets and stumble, it feels like a couple of steps backwards here indeed.

still the AI is not bad. They do take cover and minimize exposure to bullets (when they're not flying in the sky like my screenshot in the previous page). And the surrender mechanic was pretty cool to witness.

Been going on for a while now that kind of dumbing down. In all honesty I wish they sacrifice a bit of that graphical shine for better physics.

Hmm, is it me or is this game boring? Lots of uninteresting dialogue etc.
The only thing it's got going is it's got pretty gfx. :/

They bungled this one.

Apparently using the 'old', cracled .exe with the new updated files CAN improve performance in game.

So average framerate is the same while min framerate is improved (ie. they've fixed some texture/data streaming issue).

Pipe dream. The whole idea of signing an exclusivity deal was for Epic to bring customers to their new lol wut store and for Deep Silver to fatten their bank accounts by signing that deal. Deep Silver can't break the contract and Epic will never allow it.

Unfortunately.

Played a bit more and I'm actually happy I didn't buy it. I'm just not feeling it. The writing and voice acting is atrocious and (so far) the level design seems to feel like a corridor shooter with terrible AI. I like the design, but I'm just not immersed.

still in the first open zone but so far the game is horrible like everyone said x10, the only good thing are the graphics, the rest is atrocious really, game is still stuck in the past with heavily scripted moments having to hold a button for prone, ladder etc to holding your hand in missions, bad voice acting and dialogue, the characters talk way too much and nothing really to say, dumb ai and constantly get stuck in small crannies in the world. the best part so far was the prologue in the tunnel.

why the fuck when you paddle the stick dosent go into the water? lol

I agree wholeheartedly. I uninstalled it after finishing the first open area. Something's missing and the dialogue is soooo annoying. It doesn't feel particularly Metro at all to me. I looks great but that's it. :/

If people enjoy it all the power to you.

The writing is worse than the voice acting, unless you really hate Russian accent. Its like they tried really hard to make you care about the characters, their relationships and the development... while its pretty shallow somehow, im didn't feel it at least. And didn't care enough to to get excited about their backstory you can read etc. Then again, this is not final fantasy. I actually think the game would have been better if they cut back on some of the dialogue, altho some of the moments are pretty good.

Thats pretty much the only bad thing I can say about this game. I like the stalker vibe of the first open map, the rage/mad max feel of the 2nd one. The third one is more of a semi open world, but still a great level design (and what they first showed us from E3 ). There arent a tons of stuff to do on each map, but the size is very fair, and always rewarding compared to other open world games who you search for hours and dont find shit...

Graphics, presentation, atmosphere, sound, gun design and customization and realistic gun play where just great in my book! Smile

For people who completed it (maybe you have to read the book too... )

 Spoiler:

8.5/10

Could easily have been 9+ with some changes.

Yes game is very enjoyable. I was not expecting a Stalker game I only expected another Metro game, and it's definitely the best one in the series.
