The whole game is underdeveloped and somewhat disappointing as soon as the initial novelty wears off.

Still thoroughly enjoyable. But I'd have alot to say...

Only the ending bothers me because is as abrupt as it can be.

Is it? Yes, they do cut a lot of corners and there's a plethora of bugs, but I wouldn't call it underdeveloped. After all, this is a budget game.

Normally you'd expect a blacksmith would only be making nails, horse shoes, simple tools. It's clear Henry's father has some mysterious past (I'm guessing this isn't revealed in the current game, what with the cliffhanger/unfinished ending? I'd put my money on weaponsmith to the king or something) that also makes him a master swordsmith. Even then, that doesn't mean Henry would know anything about making armour. Not to mention it would require weeks or even months of dedicated work in a forge. Not something the player would be realisticly able to manage, especially when most of you are running around mugging peasants 16 hours a day.

Well, in the prologue Henry can barely swing a sword. Then after let's say a few ingame days he is able to kill heavy armored and multiple enemies at once with relative ease.

There already is a Maintenance skill ingame. And IMHO in a game that isn't much different than creating new gear.

Considering the way they took with alchemy, it would have been way too much work to make a blacksmithing system. It's for the better I guess, most players would have gone mad after crafting the first couple of pieces, let alone a full set. Very Happy

I didn't even see her getting assaulted when you escape Skalitz Laughing I was focused on getting to the horse and then bolting out trying not to hit the gate on the way out.
Only when you arrive at the other castle and Henry starts recounting what happened to the local lord, he mentioned Theresa and I realized I missed something Very Happy

Yeah I managed to notice her but "saving" is a bit incorrect since I fumbled and might have punched her during that whole mess but it apparently worked, the attackers turned and she ran away while Henry took arrow after arrow right in the arse trying to outride some half a dozen dudes with faster horses and unlimited arrows. Razz
(Good thing that bleed buildup is so slow. Ha ha.)

I actually did save her. I saw the three soldiers trying to rape her and I applied a hit and run tactic, drawing their attention towards me. Very Happy As I was running for the horse, I noticed she went inside the house and closed the door.

Sharpening your weapons is already done in an entertaining way - at least to me.

Though at first it was a bit confusing. My sword was creating heavy smoke and after i was done, durability was nearly gone. Laughing
It's a bit hard at first to see the correct angle.

Man, most of the quest rewards are just pure crap.

For example i just finished the one where one blacksmith wanted to know the secret "spell" of another smith.

You had to memorize the whole song.

Reward was 35 fucking coins. Laughing Which is nothing when you already have like 24k.
Not even some special weapon, as you would expect from a blacksmith.

Yes, that's true. But sharpening your weapon involves just a few actions therefore a few animations. But imagine melting metal to pour it into casts followed by the process of shaping it (heating-hammering-cooling) and so on. It's a lot of work for both the developers and the players.
I'm more bothered by the fact that we don't see any predators in the game, there's wolf's fangs but no wolves. There are plenty of other immersion inducing elements that are missing (no skinning animations, no children, etc.).

I think they made the most out of the budget, maybe they even overreached a bit. I still can't help but be frustrated with some of the design choices or things that are lacking, but I'm having a fantastic time with the game even after wasting several hours on bugged quests.

Maybe there are other, easier solutions Wink I think I'm at the same quest and didn't hear any song. Just ask the blacksmith after his technique without mentioning any spells and he'll explain how (something about double folding the metal or something). Haven't collected the reward yet, I'll let you know how much I got Very Happy

oh man i just keep giggling at that pic of bernard and the expression he is wearing

though they should not stop at one and add more african-americans. easiest way is to probably modify the cuman textures. just turn all cumans into african-americans. that would be perfect.

i would expect that would even warrant a eurogamer article

Actually i think telling the other boy the song was an optional target. But especially then i would expect a better reward.

I'm glad it's selling well, because I do think they deserve the success, even though the more I play, the more problems with the game creep up. Combat balance is kinda fucked after a while (I have no problems defeating 8, 10, 15 people at once now, which doesn't exactly scream "realism"). Quest rewards are indeed nonexistent, which makes their story the only reason to complete them... which would be fine if most of them weren't such a boring drawl. Still, it's a solid enough title, especially considering the budget. But I think I'm gonna rush to the end now, because I feel like I'm gonna burn out soon.

It should probably also be pointed out that comparisons with TW3 are a bit pointless, since: A) the games were created on completely different budgets (which includes marketing), B) Witcher had a simultaneous GOG release, and it actually sold more copies there than on Steam (surprisingly enough).

I did feel pretty burned out towards the end, mainly because all the combat in the main quest line are big battles and Henry gets really overpowered so it's all just a chore to chop up loads of enemies with zero challenge.

Meh, dont even feel like downloading it after seeing gameplay vids, downgrades etc. Anyway, one thing surprised me and thats a lack of talk about the kickstarter backer items.

It seems like a lot of people who supported it with a bit more money arent receiving stuff and some of them arent even planned to be sent according to emails from devs. Worst thing is they seem to have communicated this in a pretty arrogant manner... I dont really give a fuck but I hate companies that do this Smile
