45 FPS down to 19 by enabling DOF, 45 isn't all that great either especially for that blurry mess of aliased scenery.
com_fixedtic and capping the game to 30 like TEW1 might help with stutter and latency, needs some testing.
EDIT: Some of the cutscenes manage to look a bit better though but idTech5 is probably hampering things even if they updated it, if the sales warrant another game or whaetver Tango Gameworks does next hopefully a full transition to idTech6 will follow.
I don't have DOF/motion blur/film grain on, they are all trash. Also it's not only about textures and visual effects, the animation are laughable. Every time I had selected shotgun/ar/sniper rifle and tried to get it out, Sebastian goes into spasms. The character constantly gets stuck into a falling state when trying to jump off small ledges. Enemies grab you despite not being in front of them. And walking downstairs is just the cherry on top, it's an unsynchronized mess.
The cutscenes look better because the important models are quite detailed and they are usually the focus.
Played a couple of hours yesterday and I'm dissappointed. TEW is one of my favorite games in recent years despite it's huge flaws. This one just feels too average and generic to like or dislike.
I am having a good time with this. Way more than with first game.
I am on chapter 5 or 6. Graphics are good. What are some people talking about.
The performance is not too great. about 45-70fps but most of time about 50. Ultra, 1080p.
Anyway - The structure of the game is good. Not boring yet but I was kinda missing the old style single player, loot boxes free game.
Do you have to grind alot? Im bored with it already.
Did not noticed anything like this here... except for badly compressed transparent textures in few places resulting in harsh gradient transition

If you have useless effects like film grain, motion blur, bloom (I think there is an option for that) and dof, it will probably cover a lot of crap, that's why they are in the game.
The screenshots posted above are taken on the highest settings with all these effects disabled. I have plenty of them, but I chose to show just a few. I even have one for the spastic animation of getting out the gun, but it's not on steam and I was too lazy to upload it on imgur.
If we are now even defending this kind of trashy tech at a 60$ price tag I fear even more for the future of PC gaming.
those are all mostly good features and the game was developed to be used with those.
Yep - I've also noticed weird gun animation but other than that it's ok. Probably just because I like the style. Kinda reminds me of Alan Wake

I am not a fan of film grain but motion blur greatly helps low fps motion looks smooth.
Having 240hz display, there is no place for it at that framerate but as evil within is running evne below 60, motion blur helps a lot.
Bloom helps with light seem more... bright.
And Dof is just pretty realistic. You cannot focus Your eyes on close and far distances so games want to imitate that.
But it's all an option here so no problem

Yes, dof is so fantastic. Suddenly it doesn't want to focus regardless how you point your camera at something. Had enough of that shitty effect.
finished, clearly dumbed down from the first one but in the end it was ok, kinda left me wanting more. if the first one was like a good japanese horror movie then this one is like an american soft reboot with more action.
i hope they make another one.
also after finishing the game the cinematic borders like with the first one get unlocked, lol scumbags, why
It's nothing fancy, but since the game feels janky even at 60fps, I went for the DSR x1.78 in order to remove some jaggies, limited the fps to 40 and put together some reshade to make the atmosphere look a bit grittier overall (CA/blur disabled, TAA, in-game gamma set to 14).
Doesn't do miracles of course but it's an improvement in my opinion:
Spoiler:
(In case you want to give the profile a shot: clicky)
It was so much better than the first one. I really liked it. Main character was great and not annoying surprisingly.
The game was something we don't get this generation. Single player, not fucking around solid single player action story game. Good qualities all around aside from daughter cringy huge eyes
Last gen it would be an 7,5/10 game for me (while first one was like 3 or 4max) but this gen it's a 11/10 masterpiece in an era of loot crate gambling "we are going to fuck You over" games.
I really miss those normal fucking games like this one and that's not a good thing
Anyway. Solid 8/10 game. I can recommend. Also - not a single crash or bug during whole game. Performance was demanding but stutter free and worked no problem 45+fps. Gsync is probably to thank here.
Spoiler:
Lol at the "cinematic experience" bars unlock after beating the game. Glad they know how to make fun from first game failure

Enjoying it so far. Only on chapter 4 I think but it's left mostly a good impression. Performance isn't great, few frame drops on my rig that shouldn't drop frames but it's not too bad. Hope the story stays interesting and I might actually finish it!
I wonder if I should give first game another try after liking 2nd so much...

Or "Bind KEY toggle pl_firstperson 1 0" and then press the key to toggle on and off.
(I already have a few of the F system keys set up for other commands.)
The first person mode works surprisingly well, there are proper models/arms while aiming and the transition to third person when talking or during the cutscenes is smooth. It's also harder since when on cover the third person view from up above allows to easily anticipate enemies, without that aid one has to be more careful
Graphics are good. What are some people talking about.

Oh KC...
Just started it, the default FOV on this one is ridiculous, thank jeebus for that slider!
The way this game (or engine) handles- better yet, can't handle any sort of decent AA is just sad... reshade SMAA for the rescue again (BTW, was/is there any new SMAA technique out there? Been a while since I read anything new on that front.)
And what's up with the shaky weird unskippable warnings at the start of the game?

Just finished it myself. Liked the bossfights, story, atmosphere. Some few bugs here and there, but nothing huge to complain about. Agree with KC, we dont get many SP experienses like this anymore. Open world aspect is always nice.

Aa was ok fro me. better than some games recently but I only bothered with deband shader in reshade.
And yes - I've changed fov to 80. It was stupidly close to character with default settings
