This sounds like a much needed "upgrade"
"Dream Gate - Discover a whole new method of traversing Hallownest! Slice through the Veil and travel in an instant from one corner of the kingdom to another."
It's fun exploring all the places but lategame it became such a chore to rush through areas you've seen 30 times already
Yeah at least most of the main areas have a stag station but even so there's some areas that you'll have to trek through a number of times, more if you're going for the various secrets or what to call them. (Hidden charms and the whole dream nail thing including optional bosses.)
Thinking of buying this, can someone rank the difficulty on a scale between Ori (hard at times, but fair and satisfying) and Valdis Story: Abyssal City (frustrating piece of shit)? Also, is there any kind of coherent story or is it mostly about looking for bits of lore scattered around the world?

why don't you try the "demo" and if youre satisfied = buy.
Its a bit like dark souls. checkpoints are rare, bosses are difficult. There is a map though.
There are only a couple of bosses that have longish roads. Most of the time you can unlock some sort of shortcut to a bench. The July update is going to introduce some other form of fast travel.
Platforming is really mild - nothing too difficult, except for the White Palace which is optional and by the time you might decide to do it you can have enough upgrades to make it pretty comfortable.
It's not mandatory though but it will test you, ha ha ha.
Once you get a few more notches for your charms things get a bit better as you can build your character in more flexible ways and there's other upgrades too but expect to have to work for some of these.
TBH I'll be glad if I manage to just finish the game. Don't think I have the patience for optional arenas. I got some Nail master skill or whatever, but seems useless since bosses barely leave me time to heal myself, let alone charge up attacks.
@Sauronich This game is more frustrating than Ori imo. Haven't played Valdis Story
Yeah you can get a few of those by visiting the masters, you can also upgrade the nail itself eventually but they make you travel through some pretty far off remote areas even with the stag station and railway transport methods.
It is a metroidvania like game so backtracking is quite a big thing but it does get somewhat tedious after a while as you will be running back and forth quite a lot and even after you've gotten the stag stations unlocked there's still some areas that are a bit more remote and not easily reachable. (The very depths of the place for one example.)
Platforming is mostly kept at a manageable level but some few areas turn it up a bit even if you're not going for secrets.
They do keep most of the environments pretty unique though with their own distinct look and set of enemies the further you get the tougher the enemies become both in terms of toughness and also their movement pattern, ranged attacks are also a pain so yeah the scenery is nice and all but everything is trying to kill you.
Even the merchants and not-immediately-hostile NPC's you meet are assholes, individual purchases of each of the mapping supplies for example plus the base map itself for each new area. (Tracking down that guy again and again.)
This is the immediate big one! Hidden Dreams will now go out to all players on August 3rd. In classic Team Cherry style, this is a little later than we said, but we felt the update needed a little more testing and fine tuning before we send it out. Plus, we may have managed to squeeze a few little unannounced surprises in there!
I'm near the end of the game now and doing optional stuff, damn this game is good and the frustrating parts before became much less frustrating after going other way to find upgrades and new charms.
Passed the first two challenges at the Colosseum too to get Nail upgrade but yet to try the 3rd one, or go to the White Palace that everyone is talking about
"Hidden Dreams is the first of 3 free content packs for Hollow Knight, and we’re packing all sorts of crazy stuff into the next ones. Keep your eyes peeled for more info and more reveals in the near future!"
Nice! I've been managing to resist till now since I wanted to go for the properly polished Hollow ride, but...I'm not sure my inner patient bear will resist some more. The desire to play is too strong
(Speaking of which, Good Old Downloads already has the updated version^^)
Well the DLC looks like it's just 2 new bosses, that you can defeat multiple times, each time they get harder. And a new stag station.
Not really essential stuff, but nice little addition. Really little, but it's free so ...

Glorify Charms – Prove yourself and uncover a whole new depth to your charm collection.
I actually almost completely avoided this game until now. Got the Humble Monthly for 7.10€ because of some promo coupon, so I ended up with this pretty cheap.
What an absolutely fantastic game. It's charming, mysterious, even oppressive at times, very Souls-like, not in gameplay, but in world-building, characters, lore delivery. It's also very impressive how much it does with such a simplistic combat system, fights feel great, great boss design too.
This also is a perfect game to play on the Intel Graphics while I wait for my GPU, heh.
