It's EA, they'll probably have hero characters as DLC.
Pay 9.99 to play as Ponda Baba!
WTF is Ponda Baba
I really hope it will just be some cosmetic purchases and that you can unlock everything by playing.
BUT i fear that some things will take ages to unlock normally, that you are basically forced to pay money.
Be careful what you wish for though, it's the modern gaming we're talking about
Spoiler:
The sad thing is that I'd still take it as long as the lightsaber combat was reasonably close to Jedi Outcast/Academy. in myself.
Haha, it would be exactly the same for me too (and then I'd feel bad about it afterwards), which more or less is the typical experience with streamlined triple-A revivals released these days.
At the very best, an extreme rarity, one has something that it's almost as good as the original, yet still not quite there, with the 201X adaptation mechanism module that gets activated allowing us to 'forgive' some next gen sins for the greater good. In the end though even such compromises do get annoying.
One thing that surely we wouldn't see again is the level design, take Jedi Outcast for instance and its big, complex levels with no visual helps/hand-holding whatsoever...there is no saving those.
As one of the most requested fan modes, galactic-scale space combat is also brought to life in Star Wars Battlefront II. Criterion, with a deep history of creating some of gaming’s fastest and intuitive vehicles, has built space combat from the ground up with refined handling, weapons, and customization options. Players can drop into the cockpit of the galaxy’s most iconic ships, weave between asteroid fields and fly through imperial dockyards in high stakes dogfights.
::TLDR::
Just some fragmented thoughts in this post
::TLDR::
40 player multiplayer battles located planetside.
24 player multiplayer in-space battles + some AI ships.
To me these numbers, isolated, look incredibly mediocre. These numbers in 2017. I don't care what their excuses are. It is 100% affected by the console parity directive that most big titles pushed by known publishers seem to adhere to. It is 'unfair' for PC to have 64 or 128 player caps if consoles can't, same thing in terms of other features, so the lowest denominator is the bottom line around which games are designed.
FYI: I heard it could be as many as 40 AI ships added to the player piloted ones, amounting to the 'typical' 64-unit battles. I have not heard anything about AI being added to the planetside/ground based 40-player map-modes though, just for space battles. Personally, I have no interest in space battles if they aren't relevant to battles fought on the ground.
A)
AI in 2017 multiplayer shooters?
That more stuff happens in the game in terms of more shooting=explosions=fun, but we all know AI can be pretty stupid, and watching AI can actually be both frustrating and incredibly off-putting visually. At the same time AI in these types of games are known for not doing anything useful in terms of kills/completing objectives, so they can't be regarded as anything else than scenery/distractions/annoyances.
B)
AI in 2017 multiplayer shooters? The triggering of voice-samples in 2017 multiplayer shooters?
Repetitive behavior goes beyond glitchy pathfinding. AI spamming voice-commands and voice-samples in general is the worst.
AI units' use of 'voice' or contextually triggered voice samples in general is something that is added to be cool, which we know it isn't, instead it becomes similar to trying to play a video game while a person stands next to you in real life and that person is constantly clapping his hands next to your ears. Gamers in a competitive mood tend to be good at hyper-focusing, but come on.
"WE HAVE CAPTURED AN OUTPOST"
"WE HAVE LOST AN OUTPOST" (the same outpost we captured 10 seconds ago btw...)
If AI used voice-samples sparingly, or if only specific 'expert skill' AI units or whatever used voice in key situations; you know; letting players know of stuff that is actually worth knowing - instead of I'M RELOADING. I'M TAKING FIRE. I'M HIT. WE HAVE CAPTURED AN OUTPOST. WE HAVE LOST AN OUTPOST. WE HAVE CAPTURED AN OUTPOST. WE HAVE LOST AN OUTPOST. I'M RELOADING. I'M TAKING FIRE. I'M HIT - you know, shit that is fucking obvious, as some modes is about capturing, shooting and getting hit - we don't fucking need to know every single irrelevant detail. If DICE were capable of playing their own games for more than 10 minutes, they'd realize these types of annoyances.
One last thought is the feel of Star Wars infantry weapons. A cool thing about some shooters is the appearance, sound and feel/recoil/effects of firing a weapon. Most blasters in Star Wars tend to be completely without recoil, and the noises they make don't sound cool nor powerful. I don't know what can be done about it, if anything at all. I do like the combination of laser bolts/lightsabers and heavy rain though. Adding some rain, mud; more dirty and darker maps could probably add something to the mood of the game 'like the Knights of Ren' scene in TFA.
So apparently Singleplayer is made by EA Motive Studios (aka Jade Raymond's team) and tells the story between ep6 and 7. (starts at the end of Battle of endor and supposedly spans 30 years to rise of First Order)
Space battles are made by Criterion
Wikipedia, the source of all facts:
"The game's development was lead by EA DICE in collaboration with Criterion Games and Jade Raymond's Motive Studios."
So you're probably right with regards to how they work on different aspects of the game.
Got to love that they had to name-drop Jade Raymond in there...

Like Rogue One? That had some nice battles I could see in a game, especially the last one on the planet with the totally realistic planetary force shield.
That being said, I remain very sceptic. I played the last Battlefront for only a couple rounds and was bored out of my mind (with EA Access).
It's like the prettier they make their games, the duller they get lol.

i would love to see how they would put story whih is supposed to connect ep6 and 7 and thus tells what happened during 30years into 2-3 hours campaign :-/
Like 30min missions, 2 missions after Battle of Endor, 2 missions inbetween and two missions about the rise of first order ?
I saw Criterion mentioned, that might mean more VR missions, or maybe a standard feature for pilot mode? One can hope. I LOVED that rogue one mission, best thing about BF and one of the best VR experiences i've had.
"Inferno Squad" makes me think of "Havoc Squad" from Star Wars: The Old Republic, the Trooper class story missions... I'm OK with this, a story focusing on a squad, hopefully the story is long enough for players to care what happens to these characters.
The stuff they're adding in terms of lore, characters and whatnot is given canon status, so if these characters become popular we might see more of them.
Well maybe these are the special special forces seeing how they have to be a bit special if there's a female stormtrooper, unless someone somewhere changed it aren't they all clones of this big bad mandalorian bounty hunter? How they managed to make a female from that is a bit special no?
At least as I remember it, they used actual troops during the earlier parts but as this takes place after these events they should all be clones no?
Granted I haven't actually watched the newest movie with the special Sith who thought a light-saber cross-guard was a good idea on the hilt of the sword.
EDIT: Then again Disney took over and probably made everything from toy figures to candy (Yoda popsickle or whatever.) and of course comic books and novels bridging or changing the lore as required for their vision of the saga.
EDIT: Though what do I know, maybe they'll pull of something akin to Republic Commando 2 with actual tactics and AI that can actually shoot straight and don't run in a straight line towards the player constantly barking out their orders on a open radio channel.
(Well the open radio did work in FEAR so it doesn't have to be a bad thing I suppose.)
As for MP I have no idea, online store with cosmetic armor and weapons? Eh probably just a big-ass season pass again with maps and modes players would have liked to have in the game but that worked better (For EA.) when sold separately.

I'd have another name for it, but I don't think it would sit well with the younger crowd or social justice warriors.

The big Star Wars Battlefront 2 interview Force feedback
Quote:
How linear will the campaign be? Will it be something like Battlefield 1's War Stories or is it a full linear story with beginning middle and end?
Mark Thompson: Without getting into too much detail that I will get in trouble for... We take all of our cues from how to tell a Star Wars story working with Lucasfilm story group, analysing the movies, breaking down the beats and flow of Star Wars storytelling. So yeah, it is a continuous story with a beginning, middle and end and you follow Iden's journey for 30 years from the end of Jedi up to the Force Awakens at Starkiller base. It isn't a discrete set of missions or separate War Stories like Battlefield 1, you do follow Iden through this journey whilst from time to time, switching sides and playing from the perspective of one of the iconic heroes because again that's just part of Battlefront's DNA. Sometimes you're a Trooper, sometimes you're a pilot and sometimes you're Luke Skywalker with a lightsaber
Quote:
You've got a female protagonist. Unfortunately there's a subset of people on the internet who get a bit vocal about female protagonists and who might think you're catering towards a certain ideology. Do you think these people are going to be more receptive to Iden because they are used to Rey and Jyn from the films?
Mark Thompson: My personal belief is it's just about it making a good character, I don't care about anything else. If the character makes sense to the story, if the character belongs in that universe then everything else is unimportant. Does it feel right for this story? Does it feel right for Star Wars? Is that character interesting and relatable, is it someone we can connect with? Those are the important things, everything else is unimportant.
Quote:
One of the biggest fan requests for Battlefront 2 is the return of Galactic Conquest mode. Have you thought about bringing that back? Will it be in? If not, why not?
Mark Thompson: The thing about the Battlefront fanbase is that there are lots of requests for lots and lots of different things.
Matt Webster: That'll be one that we'll leave for another day.
Mark Thompson: Yeah, I don't think I could identify the one greatest ask among all of the asks.
Matt Webster: No. There's lots of voices asking for lots of different things.

Will we get to see Jar Jar Binks? Will he be a hero? Or maybe a villain?
