The AI is pretty brutal on hard and very high. They don't act like retards that have no vision. They will spot you easily if you aren't careful enough. They have awesome vertical vision and they notice opened doors, missing guards, even stolen loot and try to search places if they see something is wrong.

Does anyone else think the levels are quite small and lack multiple paths compared to the first one?
What I liked the most in the first one was the ability to basically find your own path through the level, especially with blink.
In this it seems every level is a small ish corridor with maybe one or two different paths but nothing compared to the freedom of the first game.
It is pretty boring to be honest.

I think this is an effect of making your powers an optional choice, all places in Dishonored 2 are reachable without blink which wasn't the case in Dishonored. Still making use of blink or far reach in D2 just makes the game a lot easier and shorter. Ideal playthrough would be low chaos and without powers.

I don't think the level design is inferior in any way. It's pretty much the same thing, 2-3 paths to reach the main objective and an intricate enough layout to wonder around and avoid guards. I say this after playing through the first 2 levels and exploring them to the smallest details. From what I'm hearing the levels get even better later on.

I haven't done any actual measuring - but based on memory alone, I feel the levels in DH2 are larger and more visually diverse.
But because of the shit engine - the ultra fluid gameplay is somewhat held back, and it feels like a game that should have been smoother to really work.

They maybe visually larger but not in possibilities, in Dishonored 1 you could go nearly everywhere you wanted , this game seems to force you to certain paths which makes it boring if you want to play stealthy.

Thats very much likely the reason for it, a shame

I remember Dishonored as being much the same in terms of possibilities - only with the levels being more cramped in general.
Also, much less visually diverse.

I did notice the increase in climbing possibilities, but there are certain routes created by pipes and other things that can't be accessed without blink. In case of the explorable areas, you might be right, but that's not such a bad thing, don't you think? If you play without powers you can access all the explorable areas, but don't have the versatility in navigating the levels.

@JBeckman Cash registers are fucking annoying indeed. Would've preferred the pleb "loot all" way, too.

I load the game every few days so I see it's consistent, whatever this issue is. When I load it, I get to that part (in the screen), and the game will either run silky smooth at 60FPS or it'll fluctuate like crazy. The exact same spot with nothing else changed |
i've noticed that sometimes, when the game does the long start up, it will run like crap, but then you restart, and get that quick start up, it runs fine again. But sometimes it's fine even after the long start up.
It hasn't happened to me for a few days, but i've had it 3 or 4 times overall in the past.

it's like quantum break, if you want constant 60, you use adaptive res, even with a gaming rig.

finished it..
i really enjoyed it. the levels for the most part were really great in design (though in terms of missions, thematically, the first game had the better ones), the gameplay was tight, the exploration and discovery was fun.
the ONLY THING i can say i hated, was the ending. it felt so fucking abrupt, and i dont feel like the things i did really mattered, it all seemed to be a stupid binary choice of low or high chaos...
i replaced Spoiler: | the duke, i saved stilton and brought him back to his senses so that he could help the miners, likewise i saved hypatia so that she could continue to work on helping the sick people, i stopped jindosh from making more clockwork soldiers, and defeated the howlers... why did none of that matter in my ending? Just because i had high (not even VERY HIGH) chaos and killed delilah? (because i tried non-lethaling her ass last time in the dlc, and we saw how THAT shit turned out, so i wasnt going to fucking let her live again!!) |
I did so much 'good', yet kill a hundred or so measly people, results in an empire in chaos and none of the good stuff i did had any effect? i really think this black and white moral choice shit completely ruins an otherwise great game. Either do it properly or dont do it at all, dont have it all tied to a single primary stat, that is vaguely handled at best (i genuinely thought that the game would differentiate between high and very high chaos, so was careful to keep my chaos to 'high')
