Been playing on my i7-6700HQ, 8GB RAM, GTX 960M 2GB (+135core/+400 mem) laptop this today for hours, im amazed about the optimization even more, game runs on high settings 35-45ps and looks damn nice. Too bad MSR does not work on these GTX 9xxM GPU´s, it works even on GTX 950 desktop GPU?, odd since this is Maxwell card.

Anyone else having severe motion sickness issues with Shadow Warrior? This game totally fucks my head. I had 4-5 hour sessions with DOOM but after an hour with this i get so dizzy and headachey. I tinkered with all the settings that usually induce this, sadly, nothing helped.

Joking aside, i didn't had that problem occur to me with this game (yet).
Isn't there some head bobbin going on though? Maybe it can be disabled in some config.

After 3 story quests and 5 sidequests, ill sum it up:
1- Melee: is worse than in the previous (I when i ended the SW1 reboot, i went back again just to swordfight some levels. That shows how good it was, this one doesnt have that feeling)
2- Guns: The guns are satisfying, but there are too much of them and you just dont specialize, allways trying new ones.
3- Story: Much worse: on the previous you were fighting a God and there was a demon army invading. In this one there are demons.. but ... well thers is a story but aint that good.
4- GFX: Better, period. No DOOM here, but better enough.
5- Gameplay: Seems worse especially because of the lack of the amazing previous melee control, (only criticize this if you tried the previous reboot, plz) but nonetheless its fun i recomend a go, but would not rate it above 6 or on max 7/10.

I've completed ~77% of the game so far here is my take on SW2
Graphics - 8.5
Sometimes the game looks kinda mediocre but it's mostly designers fault. And other times it looks fucking great.Dat engine can deliver impressive graphics.. I wish the devs used it more efficiently.
Performance - 9
Outstanding
Customization - 9
Lots of stuff you can configure in the menu.
Sound - 7.5
Music is good,SFX is fine, voice over is good.
Story 5
Considerably worse than the first one. The first game story had style and and it was a bit tragic in the end. This? This is just meh..
Gameplay 8
Pretty much like the first game except for loot that mostly needed to counter mobs resistances.+ add damage. Melee combat is great and satisfying. It's fun. I haven't used guns much but they seem to do a better job than in the previous game. Inventory management can get kinda tiresome though.
Co-op -7/10
They need to make some improvements to matchmaking, but overall I liked it. I would recommend playing the game in co-op instead of going all alone.
Level design 4
This is the worst part of the game. And not because of a limited randomization. As I've said I completed ~77% of the game and I found out that essentially we have just a few "pool areas" in general from where the game takes assets and mixes them. The result? You will always find yourself thinking "Hmm..I reckon I've been here."
What's worse, several times you visit literally the same areas (mostly side quests).
There are some exception but they are just that.. exceptions
This is a fail. But not because of randomization. Because these "pools" are so few.
Look at the map
Spoiler: | |
Essentially there are just 3-maybe 5 "pools". Quite often I was like,"Damn.,I definitely saw this _insert here__ in the earlier levels"
Bosses - WTF
I mean real bosses not just tough mobs who got names. So far I fought the __same__ boss twice and both times Spoiler: | it got away | . Whaaaaat? These fights were better though than SW1 boss fights.

So by the numbers above, you gave 49/8= 6,1 score. Just like me 6-7/10
By your words, would seem youd give an 8.
But hey numbers dont lie.

@LuckyStrike
These numbers are not meant to be divided, it's just to better illustrate cons and pros
If you want a general score I'd give the game 7.5+
I prefer to stick to, for instance, atrocious\bad\mediocre\good\great\masterpiece. This game is good.

yeah, i tried all that. not shure whats wrong.
I did read that you need to have the "Windows Media Player" installed.
Is that really needed?
THats one of the first things i did delete..haha
not shure if i want to install it..maybe ill just skip this game for a while.. |
It has some codecs Windows makes use of, causes movie playback to break and could be what is causing those issues and why the developers are adding "-skipvideos" as a launch parameter next patch to well skip videos for people having the game crash at launch.
(Internet Explorer 11 also has some sound or media related stuff amusingly enough.)
Or they could have went with external codecs like .bik2 (Bink Video v2) but eh I don't know what the video files are actually in or if it's video or audio that is causing the issue but yeah WMP has some codec stuff in it and that's why it's usually recommended to be kept.
(Codec packs like K-Lite also do not contain these far as I know nor do I think you can re-switch playback to these codecs instead over WMP but I could be wrong, not exactly a area I'm very knowledgeable about in truth. )
EDIT: ASF audio for one thing.
https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/3010081
(And support for some older formats like mpeg and a few others, actually come to think of it I think K-lite defaults these to the Windows defaults for stability reasons.)
Windows or well Microsoft probably should standardize things a bit by including these separately from the actual media player but then again the same goes for DirectX runtimes or those VC++ libraries that would be better supported when integrated to the OS from the get-go and updated via WU / cumulative security updates but nope apparently it's anti-competitive or some such so it's separated and you have to maintain it yourself depending on needs.
(Not like they're not already Windows / Microsoft owned or exclusive and it's not like they're a full software suite like if they integrated office or some such but that's unfortunately unlikely to change anytime soon.) |
I gave up on it, in hopes that the coming patch will fix it..
And, it did
all is good now..i even bought it now.
not even 10 min. in game and you allready can see that this is made by PC Gamer/geeks.. It runs awesome all on ultra, and this on my shitty PC
It even reconizes my derp Monitor, thats like very rare, haha..Correct aspect ratio, hz, and everything else.. and theres even an option for all desired settings you could want.. i allready love it..From an tech. standpoint viewed.
And hell yeah, That PHOTO MODE is something rare and special in PC Games these days..or games in generall..
Allmost like ReShade, and thats an huge compliment
Well guys, make some nice screenshots

Damn, the game surely is a weird beast to decipher. It offers an amazing package (no pun intended) and gives a great first impression with the polished visuals, slick performance (smooth as butter on my relatively aged rig), tons of options and customizable HUD elements to hide those marica numbers and crosshairs.
It's quick, the dashing is great as always, and there's genuine fun to be had here, though it's a peculiar type of fun that likes to overstay its welcome and enjoys spending a lot of time admiring its own wang in the mirror.
I like the silly humour (more Deadpool-like than before, if you know what I mean ), but at the same time it's wrapped around a FPS that isn't for everyone in my opinion, as it feels more like an advanced first person hack and slash with the fetch quests and little meaningful progression in terms of structure and "story". It's almost as if they took Shadow Warrior 2013's least inspired side, and pimped it like Xzibit would do with sprinkles and carefree colorful arcadeness.
I played it for 3 hours so far, and while I'm enjoying the carnage and different weapons/powers available, I'm also already starting to feel some fatigue because of the rinse-and-repeat factor, simplified hit detection and the level design which merely consist in rudimentary layouts with chests and shiny things scattered everywhere. There are indeed some bordershadowlandswarriorish influxes, bad omens as far as I'm concerned, which lead to the inevitable*
*nostalgia corner
Spoiler: | What made the 1997 game damn great was the up-close and personal approach, with the smaller scale, proper level design and exploration, non-bullet-spongy enemies and gritty feel which made Wang's jokes stand out even more. Those have all been lost in the new "Shadow Warriors" |

@ixigia
Not in the first one imho
But this new version is a bit disappointing. I got the impression that the main story ended abruptly as if the part of it was cut out and the void was filled with these side quests in badly designed levels that all look the same.
@LuckyStrike

Yup, let's say it was an increasingly detrimental process from the first one, which still retained some cohesion (despite feeling more Painkilleresque than Shadow Warrior-like, imo ), and back then the surprisingly decent story helped holding all the parts together.
This one on the other hand feels much more pop-corn(y), which is something that 100% deviates from the original concept, and from the previous game as well (but also from Flying Wild Hog's Hard Reset), it's got a generic and soulless pseudo-collectathon feel to it, so to speak :'(

Playing this made me go back and reinstall the original '97 game, definitely way more fun than either of the modern versions IMO.

So true. John William Galt was awesome in the role of Lo Wang. Is he actually an active voice actor these days? I think I remember seeing his name on Prey back in 2006 but I could be wrong.
Yeah, not really convinced on Shadow Warrior 2 yet. Guess I need to play more before saying anything concrete. At least it's satisfying to use the Katana and all other melee weapons in this game. Gunplay feels a bit so-so.
Also it was a nice touch by Flying Wild Hog to use the original Shadow Warrior music track in Larry's shop.

Have you changed the fov? The games default horrible fov really did my eyes in.
Anyway tried the game, the gameplay is pretty fun, but yeah, really not digging the way it's structured with the hub and the quests and mission givers bullshit. If this just had a singular narrative it'd be so much more my speed.
Game is unfortunately a lil ugly though
