NO YOU ARE!
Seriously though, you get used to the controls and after a while you really can't imagine playing Gothic any other way. I strongly suggest you try it again and give it some time, it will be well worth it.

Same problem as Swinefur. Was a bit appalled by the shoddy controls, shite graphics, and poor stability. I don't doubt there's a gem hidden in there, but I can't be arsed to dig it out, so I'll wait for Gothic 3.

Bad graphics ? what are you smoking, I always (and still) think the gfx in Gothic 2 rocks, at least with view distance all the way

Yeah, because as I said, I heard that it's incurable. I guess stating the obvious comes with being an idiot?
Point is, if you've got no patience I don't see how you could ever have enjoyed an RPG. So why did you expect it to be any different with Gothic?
Plus, your statement about the graphics is completely false. So what are you, an idiot or a liar?

Whilst the graphics in any RPG do matter, they are really not the important aspect they may be in say a FPS or similar..
Anyone that loves RPG's simply because they are 'RPG's' knows that the fun part is the exploration, the levelling, the finding/winning great weapons or armour.. all those things and more..
Gothics graphics are top notch for the time the games were released. I personally had no problems with the controls and cannot see the problem. Also the game is rock solid with regards to stability.. If you think about the problems Morrowind had/has.. Gothic could quite easily suffer from the same CTD's etc
The 2 main things i really dislike about Gothic 2 are .. the ridiculous voice acting and the lack of a compass
A little discussed aspect of RPG's is the music.. I think its very important for setting a scene, and the music in the Gothic games is great..

The original (german) version has pretty good voice acting
And i guess i agree about the compass |
you just have to buy a map, and you will never ever get lost again (never had the problem )
and yes, in german the voice really sounds good.
can't compare to engl. Version, as i played it in german.

Release works just fine, but I have a question. I never played Gothic 2, do I need to finish it first and only then play addon? I installed addon and there is no way to run original Gothic 2 :/

afaik the addon is just that... and addon. In fact, you start a game, and after a bit of playing you can get to the new areas. Kinda like Morrowind and its expansions.

is it the same game with the same plot, but just with some new areas and quests? (but same plot?). cuz although it's a really good game, i dont feel like playing all over again the same thing... |
U can do like me : play the same main quest but with another charcater (u can choose between Paladin, Mercenary or Guild Magician...)
From what i read on some gothic 2 forums, it can be enjoyable to play the game twice with another character (lot of different quests in fact)

I just started the game and it feels like crazy hard, there's absolutely no tutorial or anything explaining game mechanics, monsters hit for insane ammounts of damage, I mean c'mon, I just started a bloody game gimme a fuckin break. Kinda sucks that I need to save/load every two mins because I can die in seconds behind every corner. I played for 3 hours or so and half the time was doing same shit again because I died so much.

Stay away from forests until you get decent armor and weapon.

What the hell are you doing? Running off into the woods at night?
You can take goblins, young wolves/fieldraiders and bloodflies no problem at level 1. Just use a bit of tact. After you get into the city, do a few shit jobs (especially the one where you persuade the guy to go hunting with you: Mad exp) then buy better armor and a better weapon, train your skills a bit and you're off. You don't even have to kill anything to get exp in the city, just know what you're doing.

Ya, Im betting they made it harder and w/o the tutorial on purpose assuming the addon was being used by veterans seeking to continue their G2 experience...
I havent started my game yet, but I heard it makes you start completely over w/ the Addon installed.... Is this true?

Yeah, the start is just the same, only some NPC's, areas, and quests has been added to the default game world.

How far into it does it start to make an obvious change? Just Curious...

That really depends on you. You're given the infromation to go seeking a major new quest early on, it's up to you if you pursue it.
