Back when Tomb Raider was all about exploration with zero hand-holding, a single mistake and you were sleeping with the fishes (literally). I miss those games so much, no one has the guts to propose such a formula in these spoon-fed days
Just imagine a remake of the first four Tomb Raider games using this:
*drools*
I remember the time when during TR 2 I was always bit scared or nervous not to die after passing some crazy jumping area. Some parts were very challenging indeed. With these reboots I never got that feeling because no matter what the games are way too much forgiving so why bother.
On PC you could save every time before any jump and just reload before if you failed.
It was actually more forgivable than some checkpoints in RoTTR that make you redo some parts.
On psx I think you had limited save games and needed crystal and what not though.
I played it on PSX.

Psx system with crystals would return, people on PC (and consoles IMO) would bash the game.
This is not a good way to save games.
These days people demand quick save and quick load.
Putting back these crystals thing would be a major step back, I'm sure the whole nfohump would be mad at the devs (and console peasants for pushing these kind of saves )
As do I, screw the pheromone mini-game and that initial tutorial mission outcome where you let the woman live but still get the "terrorist" by simply triggering him and then within a second or so shooting him before he executes the hostage, that takes a number of tries because some designer thought Jensen should start with the weapon holstered after a conversation.
(I don't know what happens if you shoot the hostage instead come to think of it, I guess both die and it play out as that.)
EDIT: Oh and yeah there's both a lethal and non-lethal path for taking him out, tranq rifle isn't exactly ideal so that took a lot of attempts and a lot of patience and frustration, there's probably a easier method though.
Tried to give the game a chance, but it's hard to continue.
• can't crouch / go "stealthy" when you want - game does that for you
• can't choose camera zoom, as it goes back and forth, also changing FOV down to nauseating levels - game does that for you
• can't turn on / off light (flare) - game does that for you
• camera sometimes takes control showing the path - game does that for you
• can't equip / holster weapon - game does that for you
Also I can see that enemies are dumb as fuck, they stand 5m away yet they can't see you. Superhero senses let you see now enemies that you can't take down stealthy as they are now highlighted RED!
Finished it... it was ok. Not better than last game, but not worse... well maybe a little bit.
But still ok experience if not a bit boring.
At least they tried and I kinda enjoyed my time with it.
i would say 6.5/10

Still can't get it. I should have noted I've not played any of the main game on PC. Some quick googling suggests you have to play to at least the Soviet Installation to be able to select the mission?
It was expeditions I was thinking of. I think baba yaga is part of the main game and what I was thinking of was the random missions like cold darkness.
So just play normally (download a save game?) and you should come across it.
the baba yaga entry point is in the huge snow area stuff, forgot the name. you find it in front of the open building in the middle (but only after you progressed certain % in the mainstory cause you need some of the equiptment for it)
Baba yaga its on cave marked with a pink deer skull head, on the soviet instalation main map. Just finished the game, but didnt even bother to go there.. nice GFX (nice ass) , but the game and story are meh..
