^ The results you post are at stock, yes? So with such a massive OC, this card seems to be a beast. Maybe I'll switch to Nvidia this time around. But lets wait for more tests.
Yea those are from stock clocks. Supposedly they are from some chinese Nvidia slideshow.
It would be damned impressive. Though I can get a run through 3DMark at higher clocks than are 24/7 stable.

Nvidia just wont allow AMD to win in anything (okay, in 3 years RX480 will win when there is no driver support for pascal). RX480 would be fantastic card, if it just would overclock more.
Lets hope the custom 480s will overclock better, at least they come with an 8-pin connector.

i dunno why you people are surprised
1060 is bacially 1080/2, now take 1080 benchmarks and cut them in half and so is the price
700/2=350
i expect custom 480 will be around 300, still cheaper than 1060

Grain of salt indeed...those 1060 "leaks" are so funny,they have downplayed 480 a lot(naturally).
Someone took time and made a chart where he took 480 and 960 reviews from TPU and computerbase and compared it to the "review guide".
So according to that chart the 1060 in the leaked results is generally slower than the 480 on max in the legit reviews?
Nice fail indeed.

Since only the "Nvidia Review Guide" has results which don't follow the trend, it seems like their numbers are likely false. Does anyone have a link to the review?
My early guess is that they tested the cards in a game that strongly favors Nvidia, most likely a game with hairworks or similar effects (Witcher 3?). This would explain the AMD card being severely weaker in that one review.
With that said, it would still leave the 480/1060 at equal strength which would greatly surprise me.
As arrogant as Nvidia can be, I wouldn't expect them to release a card of equal strength, with slightly less VRAM, for +50$. Unless maybe Nvidia just truly cannot produce it at a cheaper price and they still want to sell a card at that price point. But I don't see it, I'm guessing something else fucked up in the comparison.

Isn't that exactly the case at launch with 970 vs 390?

The 390 released after the 970, for the exact same price the 970 launched at (329$), with equal overall DX11 performance but double the vram, slightly improved performance at higher resolution and (based on current evidence, could change) better support for DX12/Vulkan.
shitty drivers hurr durr. Didnt experience "shitty drivers" on my 6870, 7950 or 290X, the occasional beta driver problems excluded. Note: beta drivers. And where are the shitty drivers for the 390s?
The power consumption is another matter.

The 280X was a rebrand of the 7970 which, from my knowledge, did not have any problems with driver support.

PIC
Better to wait for proper reviews as always.
Is there a source to that pic? Or who is that "someone"?
Enthoo Evolv ATX TG // Asus Prime x370 // Ryzen 1700 // Gainward GTX 1080 // 16GB DDR4-3200
Anyone can take the 480 -> 960 average increase percentage from CB or techpowerup and create an excel chart. Dont need to be someone special to do that.

nV is so full of it that you are underestimating their fanboys, they are almost as sickening as apple fanboys
do you people really think that 1070 or any other cards actually cost so much to make?
i'd say the actual cost of 1080 would be 200$ just like with iphone 6 which is like 150$, problem is iphones are mass produced and nV cards this days are like ferrari's you have to be chosen to own one
So AMDs new Crimson 16.7.2 was released to resolve their power draw issue. It also brough about 6% more performance in 1440p in computerbase.de's test suite (not even max power target) but at a cost of 7 Watts. Or 5 Watt less power draw in compatibility mode. Compatibility mode reduces the power by 2% putting it at about equal performance to 16.6.2, the official driver that was released with the card. With 132 Watts less power draw than the 390 but about equal performance, power draw might still be an issue to some, but personally, I could not care less, beeing used to 290X power draw.
At 1080p and stock settings the card is now 4% away from the 970 but still 9% slower than the 980.
At 1440p and stock settings the 480 now sits just in between 970 and 980, with 8% more than 970 and 7% away from 980.
One should be aware that 970s and 980s overclock alot better though.
So if partners like Sapphire can somehow provide further OCing capabilites (which is likely, since they'll pretty much all be using 8-pin power connectors), the card might just be ready for the 1060. It will be an interesting battle for sure.

I'm going to elaborate on it because I want this clusterfuck to be remembered.
The 7970 was supported fine as long as it was a flagship. The rebranded 280X however was a mid-tier card and AMD couldn't give a fuck supporting it. At a time when gaming culture was going wild over indie games that used DX9, AMD basically broke DX9 on the 7970/280X and didn't care to fix it for half a year.
I remember installing drivers back and forth, old drivers to play an indie game, new driver to play a AAA game, repeat...
It makes me mad how easily people forgive AMD for that shit.
I dont remember having any difficulties with my 7950 though I have not played everything certainly.
edit: and people easily forgive alot of things, be it Nvidia or AMD, both had their share of bad drivers.

I have owned CF 7950 (crossfire was as shit as SLI), 7970, 290, 290X, and never had any more problems with drivers than on geforce cards. Both camp drivers are shit at times, true story.
