Games like this needs proper quests/missions to drive you, that has been the main problem in the genre i think.

Indeed. This is what happens when you take an indie game - albeit an extremely pretty one - and hype up expectations unreasonably.

That would be my preference, certainly. I'm a storyfag, so open world-type games typically fail to hold my interest for long. While I don't mind exploration and combat, I really need a solid narrative core. So I'm not sure if I'll even bother with an isodemo for NMS.

I guess i will just play Starbound 1.0 when it comes out around the same time as this.

Might not have those nice artistic graphics, but it's full of great features. Very Happy

A thing closer to this than Empyrion would be: GRAV... but still They are build/survival games. While it's space I wouldn't call them too similar to me they are quite different. But eh... seeing Empyrion pop up a few times I had to mention GRAV as well.

Grav and Empyrion look good.. but, as Morphy said.. they're build/survival games and I'm just so unbelievably burnt out on them. I want a house on a planet, okay, so I have to hunt for wood... and metal... and scraps.. and this... and that... and this... and that... then I have to craft this but I need that to craft this but I can't craft this without that which requires this to craft it instead.

I guess it wouldn't be so bad if we had the choice of prefab buildings and whatnot, but egh, I'm just too worn out from constant crafting wood panels to build a wall.

Empyrion looks good and i have it on my wishlist for some time now. But as with all of those type of games, i will wait till they leave EA.

And since where are mentioning similar games, Planet Explorers looks promising too Very Happy

It's drab though... feels more like an inconvenient modding tool than an actual game

Pretty much yeah. I did buy Empyrion and tried it out but refunded it. Just wasn't really all that, atleast playing alone. And the servers are not as populated as they are in Rust either so it makes it feel even more dead.
And the fact that building anything takes forever, meh. I didn't even manage to finish building my first base in those 2 hours that I tried it. And I only tried to do a 6x6 flat.

You must have been doing something odd then, you start the game with enough supplies to set up your first base and I think I also had a hover vehicle with just a little mining, you just have to take the supplies out of the pod you crash land on the planet with at the very beginning.
Alpha version came out today of it and they added a tutorial Wink

Yeah I was aware of the stuff in the pod but building the stuff takes ages and then you gotta build like 6 different things for 1 item etc which really takes up time.

GRAV is shit. They even basically gave it away one weekend to try and get people to start playing. I got it thinking it'd be a blast, uninstalled it after a few hours.

Okay.. the inventory stuff is already annoying the piss out of me. I really hate that kind of limited bullshit in games, most recently in Out There, but combining VERY limited inventory space (6-16 slots) with the restricted need to have each individual group of elements taking up an entire slot? That's not cool.

Keeps it simplistic for console kiddies and it probably also ties into that whole thing about not allowing you to stay in once place/settle down, forcing you to keep moving.

I swear Sean has been on the same 3 planets with every preview., inhabited by the same four Spore creatures. I'm exaggerating, of course, but Sean isn't making me want to run out and get this game. It's what I have conjured up in my head of what I want the game to be that keeps me interested.

Ok if it is of concern to you and ones perception of the game right now, go to his twitter and pull him up on it. Ask him to show move diverse gameplay.

Unless there are some hidden game elements they are keeping from us, then this is going to get old very quickly from what I've seen in the videos.

I hope I'm wrong, please prove me wrong. From surface to space in under 10 seconds for console kiddies

You are aware that even the space shuttle only takes 150 seconds to get out of earths atmosphere right? And this game is based on fiction future space flight, so? If you want something closer to the 150 I guess kerbel is the game people should play Laughing

That would require a Twitter account. Very Happy

For all I know, this has been addressed already. I don't do, nor follow, social media. Just an observation made based on what I have seen.

I appreciate what Hello Games is doing. I just think they let the scope get away from them.

The more i see the gameplay videos, the more i'm thinking it as a minecraft game in space.

Cool and all but this game doesn't seem like it deserves it's price. People keep hyping it, so it's probably gonna fail at some point.

I dunno, it has been pretty lacking of late with good new total conversion mods. I look from time to time for anything that might be fun but find nothing for it. With a better pc though it is great to be able to run shaders on minecraft without worrying about frame rates Very Happy

You do realise that it takes over 8 minutes for the shuttle to reach a stable orbit? That number you quoted was not from the surface but from the last stage.. I think.
How did you know I play Kerbal Smile
