as a pc repair technician i know windows 10 has been downloaded on the quiet on pretty much every win 7 and win 8/8.1 computer/laptop i have seen recently,(even illegal versions of those OSs) but i was contacted by a couple of clients over the last few days telling me that windows 10 installed ITSELF, without the users telling it to install, no notifications or anything...now i dont know if this is true, but i know one of those clients isnt the sort to just "poke about in windows" - their pc is used for a milking parlour and they just leave it totally alone, except when they need to print off dairy records. big brother, much.force people to use windows 10 by hook or by crook, much

Janz i'm with you:
Win10 is the best.
Those few Win7 users left are hating on it just because they would be unable to configure it right.

I'm starting with testing out the new Win today on my Retrobox (Runs on the TV with my emulators, Kodi and also used for Steam streaming co-op games). Seeing how the upgrades and installs go in the first place (going to upgrade and re-install a few times) after that: checking out all the new stuff, messing around in it setting it up until I'm somewhat satisfied. Just making sure that everything will work or what will need fixing.
Should be time enough before the free offer ends (probably will get extended anyway) so that I can start prepping our two main systems and switch over to 10.
But hey... I was just lazy, ignorant or too stupid or what where people shouting again to the ones not having made the switch yet?
Took longer than expected, started at 0.00 and it finished the upgrade just now. Hopefully it will throw up more crap at me the next days. So far it was only the setup being stuck at 0% when looking for upgrades. Fairly easy to fix.

Six more months or so when DX12 titles/updates start popping up regularly, then it will make sense to upgrade since up to now I didn't find anything that ran slow/bad enough to make me consider all the hassle involved with the upgrade.

Yup, I still don't feel the need for it. Just was the right time seeing I was going to redo the third system. Gives me the right opportunity to test it all out. Main systems aren't planned for another 2 months.

same goes for images downloaded via the media creation tool, you just have to redownload the tool from ms' website, otherwise it would still dl the old files
but it isnt that big problem at all cause of the cumulative update system

I was very hesitant at first, but I'm pretty much fine with it now. Yes there are some annoying pieces, and having to use tools to block shit, and prevent driver updates gets tiring fast... but once you get going it's pretty simple.
if it's going to happen anyway, might as well bite the bullet and get used to it now.

Your device is up to date. Last checked: Today, 03:18
^^ irritates the fuck outta me ^^
NO MS!!, my 'SYSTEM' is up to date, or my 'PC' is up to date, not my fuckin 'DEVICE' (like its some shitty MS phone).
Thank you.

I don't give a shit what it says elsewhere. I have Android saying my many 'devices' are up to date, and that's fine.
I use a PC, and I call it a 'system', not a 'device', so I would like MS to call it so.
Thank you.

| Quote: | Let's talk about Windows 10, my least favorite subject right now. At the end of last year I announced that for personal and professional reasons, I would not be doing a TweakGuides Tweaking Companion for Windows 10, but that I would try to compile a brief Windows 10 tweak guide. Well I've tried, and I'm just not finding it possible to write a decent but brief guide. Windows 10 is an ever-changing, non-transparent, disjointed mess of an OS. Many of its annoyances can't be successfully tweaked away, and those that can require pages and pages of explanation. Furthermore, any such guide would require constant editing over time as Microsoft alters Windows 10 on almost a monthly basis now.
But perhaps the single biggest reason I'm not motivated to write a Windows 10 guide is that I've rapidly lost all respect for Microsoft, and consequently have lost a great deal of interest in anything to do with their products. Microsoft's clumsy, desperate, visionless push to get PC users to adopt dumbed-down mobile-oriented apps purely for their own commercial benefit; the unrelentingly persistent, unethical, and highly deceptive way they're trying to trick less tech-savvy Windows 7 and 8.1 users into "upgrading" to Windows 10; and their insistence on reducing user choice and control over Windows have all left a very bad taste in my mouth. This is an inept company struggling for relevance in the mobile era by shamelessly abusing its monopoly on desktop operating systems, and I don't want to play any part in helping them do that. | What a hater, amirite Janzya Nutella?

I have a tiny question:
Is there any tweaking program that lets you choose multiple options to tweak out (check boxes) and, once you're ready to apply them, instead of doing so, you can sae aaaaaaaaaaall that fucking config you've done and EXPORT IT INTO A FILE so incase you format W10 or something, you can then import such file to not waste any time re-checking everything out?
A Time saver i mean..

Pretty nice. I like to use some linux common tools from time to tim.
Now if only they also included some compiler in default windows installation to make installing some python modules that require compiling binaries easy.

Depends on what packages they'll have in the windows repository. I am also curious if canonical or MS is going to be the maintainer. I fear they'll abandon it shortly after release.
