i didn't see anything to 'take' the books, i just picked them up and huffed em back to the lookout one by one Very Happy.. cant BELIEVE there was no payoff. I mean an achievement woulda been nice, but even if there'd been some kind of COMMENT about the books? or some metaphorical payoff?

BUT i think i missed at least one, because in the patch notes said there was a book 10 that sometimes fell out of the world, and i only found up to 9? so maybe there is something if you find them all... no idea. and again, im also annoyed at the lack of space on the bookshelf which is a pity.. clearly finding and bringing all the books isn't what was intended in the game, and i kinda find that sad.. id have LOVED IT if there was a 'place' for every object in the game... that would have been so cool. i brought the deer horn (Very Happy) and the velociraptor claw back to my hut, and could only throw em on the table...

even forrest had a space... best room mate ever... whenever I put him, always a smile Very Happy

i think its got at least a second playthrough in it, given you know how the story turns out, i think it'd be interesting to go into it and seeing events differently..

Unity by default runs everything in a pseudo-fullscreen mode.

You can try the command-line arguments and see if forcing fullscreen there might help but otherwise you have to downsample the Windows desktop and then in the game you can select the same res to downsample that way. Smile
http://docs.unity3d.com/Manual/CommandLineArguments.html
(The stand-alone player ones.)

I recommend this for quickly downsampling the desktop, particularly if you like to use borderless or windowed mode in other games.
http://funk.eu/hrc/

EDIT: Downsampling the desktop can cause scaling issues depending on if you use monitor or GPU scaling and what method of scaling is used.
(IE with 1x1 scaling you'll have a little black box around the screen edges when doing this if you use the monitors scaling method.)

good game. Hard to rate it, because it's not a game really, it's an experience.

All the walking was very annoying somtimes.

I don't like indie games normally, but this one was really immersive

After a few days I got admit that I'd love to play another game like that. I play games to feel like i'm someone else, feel an adventure, and that's exactly what I felt.

And this video (SPOILERS) convinced me that the ending was actually quite awesome and made the whole story have a lot of sense and it was supposed to be this way:

Meh, what a wasted opportunity. No suspense at all. At least they could have left out the invisible walls that makes it impossible to fall to your death, it's such a simple thing that at least would have added a tiny bit of excitement.

I got to the part where you are supposed to go to a thin line of smoke, but there were so many dead ends that made absolutely no sense (40-50 cm heights, a tiny bush etc - absolutely
impermeable, lol).

If you are doing a game about exploration and hiking (which i love IRL), at least make me able to climb or just jump over tiny heights, otherwise don't bother, make it a fucking animated movie, its more honest.

Glad i didnt buy it.

those obstacles CAN be removed at a later date, or are removed during a story event, just fyi...

you mightn't like that things can only happen once you pass a certain point in the game, but its not an uncommon gameplay mechanic to unlock abilities as you progress through the story... you will eventually be able to get past them.

yeah i can guess what happens that "removes" a lot of stuff, its kind of in the title / plot Wink

I just dont find it immersive at all that you are supposed to be a healthy man that cant jump over tiny obstacles. In a game which is about getting around and exploring. I hate that in all games with exploration, if they make it like that, so its not just this game. And yes i am aware that i am probably more picky than most people with this. Very Happy

Sadly I think the problem is incorrect expectations... Not your fault, I just think you judge it harshly because you went into the game expecting it to be something it didnt really try to be. It's more of a story/atmosphere/character focused game with minimal exploration, which is only really for world-building atmosphere. It's a pity you're not enjoying it, I really enjoyed it, but yeah, it's very much a love it / hate it kinda game.

Just finished it. took me around 5-6 hours. talk about an underwhelming finale. from the whole build up and everything, I expected some mind blowing matrix type of shit.

Great art direction and voice overs, and not much else here. It kinda feels like watching Lost. you are constantly being baited, and then nothing.

Performance wise, average. maxed out settings, a 970 can do constant 60 fps at little over 1080p.

i used DSR 1.5X which ended up being 2057x1286. 1440p no chance at constant 60 fps.

Overall though, I would feel duped if I paid for this. A severe lack of substance in the only department that the game went for, which is the story. And the backtracking was a bit too much.

But kudos for to the devs for the carrot on the stick approach success. it kept me going, but once I got to the end, I felt tricked. and the screenshots I took were mesmerizing, can't complain there.

oh, and that fucking raccoon. i lost 2 years of my life there Laughing

also, the protagonist looks like a midget for some reason. that was a bit weird Very Happy

apparently many people feel like this Laughing

its interesting, really, because you talk about your expectations, and how they mirrored the expectations of the games characters which is exactly what drove the whole tension and drama of the games story... which really goes to show just how interesting and effective the storytelling in the game was. The fact that the revelation of what was going on matched perfectly with what you were PHYSICALLY seeing and experiencing, makes the narrative really unique and wonderful in my opinion... it toys with the idea of an overactive imagination and pulls it off wonderfully.

you weren't being bated or misdirected, everything you experienced were part of a coherant story that both you and the characters were misunderstanding...

I think the game just goes to show you cant give people something different or new... every plot has to have a fantasy element or aliens or a ghost behind it.. no wonder we always get the same formulaic shit endlessly, even while we bitch about it, because if we get anything else, we'll rip it to shreds for not being exactly the same formulaic shit we were EXPECTING and DEMANDING it to be.

That's where we disagree I guess.

The developers directed the narrative by selecting which pieces of the overall narrative we see. They chose to present it in a way so that both the player and the in game characters react as if they only see the pieces of the narrative that happen on screen.

So yes, they did a great job in crafting the deception that wouldn't happen if we actually were Henry and Delilah in real time 24/7. The fact that the narrative presented appears to be something it's not is only because of the lack of information denied to us by the devs, not an overactive imagination.

But the fact that I can appreciate the skill of the developers in crafting a carrot on the stick in a slick way, doesn't mean I will find complete enjoyment in the end product.

It kinda reminds me of Polanski's The Tenant. I can appreciate the mastery of the film as a medium that allowed him to craft the experience. but as a movie its quite unpleasant.

Same here. while I appreciate the mastery of the tools used, taken as a sum of it's parts, it falls short in providing me satisfaction.
