|

Alright men, inbound for upgrade, I plan to switch to Intel in the following months, but if the connoisseurs in this domain advise to wait until AMD launches it's new CPUs, i will wait.
Running FX8320, with 8gb HyperX in dual channel on MSi 970A-G43, want to change these only.
Budget ~500$, looking for something up-to-date, that will run for another 2-3 years.

Might be best to post some local shops or the ones you are willing to order from. That way you or others don't have to worry about sticking to a budget you put up.

I can probably raise the budget if it's really worth it. Will I be needing 16gigs?

Tbh i was looking at the same components, but I needed pro advice and it seems to me it's like a pattern, you want some of the best, this this and this.

just get a z-board which offers all slots and connectors you need. since we are going full "best" and that includes oc (maybe in the future but not right now) it might be better to spend a bit more right now. that means a huge cpu cooler like the Noctua NH-D15 (which is fucking expensive, about 80 bucks), there are plenty of good coolers which cost only the half, but im not into it right now which is the best, google will help you
as board: for example ASUS Z170 Pro Gaming or the slightly cheaper ASRock Z170 Extreme4 + 2x8GB DDR4 2133mhz (or faster ram, but that gets a bit more expensive again)

If you plan to install a proper cooler make sure you avoid tall ass memory modules, like so:
Because then your choice for a cooler may be limited by that, unless you get a slanted cooler like the Macho.

emag isn't competitive enough on this side anymore. I got my gpu from emag tho, because they had the best deal.
When i saw the bundle I thought it's a game, why would someone who buys a top-end gpu would need a toy?

Also, maybe get a 6600K instead of the 6700K?

and there will be what, 1% fps difference?
ram speed is the least important
SSD is the best investment
next is the GPU

uf those prices are heavy, just looked at german euro prices (which are almost 1:1 dollar atm...). cooler 25 bucks cheaper, ram 25 bucks cheaper, cpu 50bucks cheaper, board 45 bucks cheaper.
hmmh, any other store available with better prices? if not as toni says: cheaper cooler and "only" the 6600k. 2666 might be 10 bucks more expensive but could be useful for oc

I might buy from DE tho, because shipment won't cost me as much as the difference in our prices. Making a quick math on your prices, the difference is $145, which is considerable. Shipment won't be more than $20. I mean I bought bike parts from DE and were a lot heavier and only paid $20.

I agree, it's been years since RAM-speed was an important factor.. In fact, moving from 8GB DDR3 to 16GB DDR4 will probably not be noticeable at all. 8GB DDR4 is enough and will save you ~$40'ish.

Only thing where high speed DDR4 gives significant performance improvements is if you have skylake i3.

I play games and regularly run at 8GB+ of RAM, currently:
